The best pizza I had in Querétaro made with masa madre! - Edit
I discovered this jewel only on my fourth visit to Querétaro. I would see it each time I visit the city, but I always thought it was a Polish restaurant due to its name. One day I had a delicious juice next door at Sopla El Viento. Once I told the owner Jair, I was into plant-based healthy food; he recommended Vieja Varsovia. He then said to me that he also worked there on the busiest days.
Read moreUpon Jair's recommendation, I gave it a try. I was not disappointed. Not only everything I had was made with high-quality fresh ingredients, but it tasted delicious. Finding tasty food in Querétaro was initially a challenge for me. Finding a tasty and healthy restaurant sounded like a mission impossible until I discovered Vieja Varsovia.
I must have eaten there five or six times in total. What I ordered the first time so good that I kept ordering the same dishes at each visit. I would get their Greek salad as a starter and then follow with their vegetarian pizza made with "masa madre" in a traditional wood oven. They do have non-dairy cheese options. They gave me some to try on my first visit. I wasn't thrilled with the taste of the non-dairy cheese. When it's to my taste, I love it, but at Vieja Varsovia, I went with cheese of animal origin on both the salad and the pizza.
For drinks, they have an extended list of teas. An exciting discovery was their hot chocolate. They put together their own version of the Oxacanian hot chocolate with "piloncillo," cinnamon, and almonds. Then you can choose if you want it with cardamon or chile. I've tried them all, and the winner for me was the plain one made with water.
If you are into dessert, I highly recommend the Fondant au Chocolat. It takes a bit of time to prepare, but it's worth the wait. Spending time here can add to the experience since Vieja Varsovia has a terrace right on the peaceful and sunny Plaza de Los Fundadores.
I highly recommend this place!
Pros: Excellent Food, Very Friendly Staff, Peaceful Environment
Cons: Street sellers interupting the meal

Fine but wouldn’t come back - Edit
The portion of the ratatouille I had was really small. The service took quite long and when I asked which are the vegan options Gerold me there are a lot but they weren’t marked on the menu so I had to ask...

Not the best for vegans - Edit
The bean pizza that the previous reviewer mentioned doesn't seem to exist anymore :( I got a vegetarian pizza without cheese which was decent but not amazing. Lovely hot chocolate with soy milk. It's a nice place to sit as it's on a lively plaza, but some beggars also pass by asking for money if you sit outside.

Awesome vegan pizza - Edit
This place is so vegetarian/vegan friendly and the food is just amazing. Ask for the pizza with the frijol base which has mushroom and spinach, you won't regret it. Also the vegetarian pizza without cheese is really good, but the bean one wins for sure!
