Great vegan place - Edit
I love supporting this business due to the fact that it’s entirely vegetarian , however it is run out of a pizza shop that serves meat. Their Tom yum soup is amazing !

It’s all the same business, pizza and all, so it’s not really entirely vegetarian.

Let alone vegan. It is simply compartmentalising its menu so it can target the vegan market.

Delicious quick vegan Vietnamese food - Edit
This takeaway vegetarian (mostly vegan) takeaway restaurant has delicious vegan food and friendly staff. So far we’ve tried the rice paper rolls, salad and noodle bowls and vegan pho and have enjoyed it all. Staff are friendly and helpful.
Read moreThe spring rolls aren’t vegan (contain egg) but I think all dishes without the spring rolls are vegan.
The pizza place which is located at the same premises with shared kitchen and I presume staff is not vegan and offer only one vegan pizza option.
I plan to keep coming back for quick vegan meals. Hopefully they start making their spring rolls vegan so that the whole menu of Vie Vegan would be vegan…

I called up Vie Vegan and enquired whether their spring rolls were vegan and they told me they were not. I told them that I really wanted to support them but I couldn’t while they were serving non-vegan food. I pointed out that many other places served vegan spring rolls and asked if it was difficult for Vie Vegan to source them. They replied that they used the non-vegan ones because they are ”crispier.” I asked them if they thought crispy was more important than vegan, particularly given the name of the business. They told me they would change to vegan ones and I told them that would be fantastic and I’d be happy to post on Happy Cow when this happens.

Yes it was sad for me that gustatory pleasure was being prioritised over ethics. This attitude is one of the challenges of veganism in wider society, and disappointing to find it in a nominally vegan restaurant. I’d love to eat here, so I hope they do follow through and make the change. There’s a genuinely vegan Vietnamese restaurant five minutes’ walk away if they don’t.

Update: I went in today and was advised that everything on the Vie Vegan menu is now in fact vegan. However, I also discovered that Vie Vegan is not really a separate business but a ‘separate vegan menu’ attached to Encore Pizza Footscray, serving over the same counter (laden with cow’s milk chocolate bars and other stuff) from the same kitchen., in which animal flesh and secretions are prepared.
