Good for what it is - Edit
Located in a cozy neighborhood bar and takes place every week. Very friendly atmosphere.
Read moreThere's always a soup, a main course, and a dessert, and the price is unbeatable for Amsterdam. Very filling and always healthy and organic.
Of course it's not the most amazing or creative food you'll ever have, but it's not trying to be. It's simply a nice, filling meal at a decent price.
Pros: Good value

Feel like local - Edit
Found this hidden gem in HappyCow and for my luck I was in Amsterdam Wednesday evening.
You should call first to reserve a table and then - welcome to gastronomic trip.
Place is cozy and the chef is very nice and friendly. Sometimes he asked to help serve dishes in the kitchen which is nice and I felt like home :)
Simple food served in a beautiful way. You can have a nourishing meal - 3 courses vegan menu - for less than 10€!
If you’re in Amsterdam on Wednesday - must to visit!

Local scene and great vibe - Edit
Zaal 100 is a classic in the Westerpark area. I've been coming here for many years and I am glad the place has not lost its local and alternative vibe. It's more of a local canteen than a restaurant but don't miss it if you want to experience the real alternative Amsterdam, which you won't surely find in the city center (which has now become a big amusement park). The menu is always vegan and the quality of the cooking can vary depending on the cook because it is done on a voluntary basis. You get soup, main and dessert for 9 euros. A great price for Amsterdam. Open on Wed, Thu and Fri. It is best to book in advance. Check their website, they often have some other activities going on in the main area or some small show after the meal in the restaurant itself.

Off the beaten path - Edit
Found this dinner event on Happy Cow. The food was healthy, filling and delicious...definitely the healthiest and best meal we’ve had in Amsterdam! Do know that this is definitely not a restaurant...more like a local’s weekly supper club at a multi-use community center type of place. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because we didn’t feel totally welcome. We were the only non-locals there and definitely felt like the outsiders. Everyone else knew the “scene”...the form to fill out (another patron yelled at me for filling it out incorrectly 😬) how, when and who to pay (the assistant chef at the end), what part of the meal was self-serve (the soup course) and what part is served (main and dessert), whether to clear your own dishes or not (not clear), etc... That said, we will definitely go back if we are here again on a Wednesday for the yummy and nourishing food!

Good, cheap vegan dinner - Edit
I liked the food and atmosphere a lot. Not a real restaurant with fancy plates and meals. Just large portions (if you're still hungry you can get more without paying extra) of good food. Every week another theme (I went there for the asian menu).
Read moreAlso nice to see that the same people eat there every week (also older people). Everyone is open and help each other.
Pros: Unique concept, tasty, cheap, healthy
Cons: Little chaotic, not clear how it worked

The purrfect place to go to - Edit
The people, the environment, (sometimes) the music! :) It's a lovely place that everyone who comes to Amsterdam should visit. These kind of places have soul, rather than only food and that's it.

if it's Wednesday go - Edit
I was lucky enough to be in Amsterdam on a Wednesday I went to the filling a healthy diner created by chef Erik. Not a tourist place but a place to dine with locals. Also check out the website as there are sometimes events on other nights as well

Great value - Edit
Erik always serves a very complete & healthy 3 course vegan and organic dinner for just 9 Euro :). With nice weather you can dine in the courtyard. The bar serves very low priced organic drinks like pear juice for 1 Euro, wine and the famous Budweiser Budvar. Check out the Zaal100 website for the possible after-diner concert: http://zaal100.nl/
