Amazing - Edit
If you are staying in Fukuoka it’s about a 30minute train ride from the chaotic Hakata station.
Read moreThe contrast couldn’t be more stark! Chaos to the tranquility of Veggie Syokudo Funadeya.
The food is amazing, probably the best vegetarian meal I’ve eaten in Japan (including T’s Tantan in Tokyo central station).
Extremely flavourful, with a wide variety of tastes and textures.
I highly recommend you make the journey out to Shishibu Station, and seek out this restaurant.
Pros: Incredible food, Chilled atmosphere

My brother and I came for lunch (1830yen, including sweets).
Read moreWe got a large plate of food and every bite was delicious!!
The owner was lovely and there was reggae music playing in the back. Wonderful vibe.
The dessert was some kind of baked cheesecake, which was absolutely delicious, and mildly sweet. The vegan cream he made was to die for and the real star of the show!
Honestly my best bite if food in Fukuoka, second only to Evah's in Tenjin/Hakata.
Pros: Food, Vibe, Price

Near Shishibu Station. Easy to find. Leave from the west gate of Shishibu Station and you'll see the 7-11 sign poking out above the surrounding buildings, walk towards it and you'll find yourself on the same street as the shop (basically it's opposite the 7-11, which is further away on the other side of the road)
Read moreEverything here is absolutely delicious!! There are a lot of menu options - curry, burgers, ramen, etc. All are freaking tasty. The soy chai is a personal favourite of mine from the drinks menu. Funadeya is the most "vegan" eatery that I have been to - in the sense that, unlike other vegan restaurants/cafés I have been to, one's attention is immediately and clearly brought to the plight of factory farmed animals. Other restaurants tend to focus on "diet", "weight loss" and "health" rather than on the much darker reality of factory farmed animals... Not that things like diet and health are necessarily bad, but in my view the core of the vegan message is one of ethics, and the plight of the animals that suffer needlessly for food production. So it was very nice (not nice that the animals suffer of course, but I mean I appreciated the firmly truthful approach) and refreshing to have that very prominently displayed by the posters, pamphlets, t-shirts, and little trinkets decorating the space...
Update: been here many times now, and have not been disappointed so far. Delicious and satisfying!
Pros: easy access, close to Shishibu Station in Koga, delicious satisfying guilt-free food, vegan for the animals, friendly owner!
Cons: none

why isnt there an option for six stars out of five ? - Edit
Mind blown. I have been to T's TanTan but this a whole new level. Friendly chef who is a one man army running the shop. Each set has so many mini portions, you don't get the same flavor again. So yummy and filling and at such an affordable price point. Despite being 30 mins away from Hakata on the JR line, I'll come here again.

Best in Fukuoka! - Edit
This place is the best! Its 100%vegan, with huge sets including a variety of mock meats, mock egg, so many different fresh veggies cooked in many ways, and delicious sauces. There is no menu item that left us wanting more, everything available is enough food to fill you up for less than ¥1200. The spot itself is traditional Japanese seating, very cozy and with free wifi. The owner is very nice and welcoming, and there is no shortage of advertisements for local vegan festivals/events and punk shows! We went to this restaurant 4 times in a week and would happily do it again! Definitely put this at the top of your list for Fukuoka.

ABSOLUTE MUST GO!! - Edit
This place is amazing; if you're wary of set meals, fear no more! You will definitely have enough food, my recommendation is the burger, and the curry and the plate and the bowl sets. Don't forget the sweets sets!
Read moreSeriously this place is a traditional style Japanese eatery serving all vegan fresh food including mock meats made in house! It's an absolute must visit restaurant, plus the owner is super down to earth vegan who has a lot of literature on veganism, flyers for vegan events, concerts, and is all around an amazing guy! Also the price of two set meals and a dessert set is about 2000jpy you really can't beat it in quantity or quality!
If you're wondering if you should even go to Fukuoka, GO FOR THIS RESTAURANT ALONE, it's worth it!
Pros: EVERYTHING
Cons: NONE

Unique experience dining here - Edit
We went to Veggie Syokudo Funadeya on 2 Dec 2017 for lunch and we ordered veggie plate set and Indian curry rice. They were delicious and the portion was huge. The restaurant has unique interior decorations, something similar to Tibetan theme. The owner is a vegan and animal activist, and you can see alot of animal rights posters there. You can read more about the restaurant and see more photos in my blog here:

The best vegan restaurant in Fukuoka! - Edit
※日本語レビューは下にあります
Read moreI've eaten here many times, and they always serve me very delicious and satisfying food. I've tried the curry, the macrobiotic plate, and the taco rice so far, which were all big meals, well-prepared, and tasty.
The couple who own this restaurant are lovely, and I always enjoy talking with them. They're also very passionate about veganism and their food, and in reality restaurants which support veganism are rare in Japan.
It's a little far from Hakata or Tenjin but well worth going. You can enjoy the peaceful inaka (rural Japanese atmosphere) around the restaurant. There's also big, beautiful shrine (Miyagidake Shrine) three stops away if you are interested and have time.
Pros: delicious food, nice staff, big food
Cons: inconvenient

Excellent food and warm reception! - Edit
I took myself on a bit of an adventure to find this place, and it was so worth it! I love finding teeny tiny vegan gems hidden away around the world. The married couple who own and run this restaurant are great, and have no problem helping you understand the Japanese menu as they speak some English. The woman was so lovely that I'd go back there everyday just to be friends... If only I lived in Japan! Haha
Read moreThe food was great, and they fed me a very large portion of curry, after a tasty spicy noodle salad (comes with your lunch purchase). I think the price was 978 yen for a lunch -- which is 7.97 USD! Great meal, great price, great people.
Worth taking thirty minutes to get to!
Pros: Delicious food, Great owners, Good price
Cons: Slightly off the beaten path

Fun and just lovely! - Edit
This has to be the funnest veg*n food in Fukuoka, and what's Japan without fun food right?
Read moreThe restaurant is colourful and hip, but still tidy and well presented. There are DJ decks and cool posters, animal-rights stickers and colourful toys spread amongst the bright display of kitchenware and ingredients. I was immediately glad I'd made the trip north (about a half hour train journey from Tenjin) for lunch.
The staff spoke a little English (enough to explain the menu) and looked up a few things on a computer to show me what I was in store for. I got excited because I figured this is the kind of thing someone does when they are obsessed with good food and making happy customers! I ordered the most expensive stuff I could, which only came to Y1300 and came with delicious unlimited tea.
The food came quickly and I was immediately taken back by the generous size of the meal! Not just large, but each of the many items presented was truly living in the realm of "I don't think I could make this at home" (anyone who can make this stuff at home please contact me).
The tastes were bright and fresh and distinct. The whole lot was vegan and colourful and healthy. Over all it was a lot of fun and very good value!
If you don't mind the trip or you're passing through the area (or live there!) I can very highly recommend Veggie Syokudo Funadeya.
Pros: Wonderful food, Upbeat atmosphere, Great value
Cons: Not in a popular area
