Yum!! - Edit
Found this place on happy cow while in the area.
Read moreWe ordered salt & pepper fresh mushroom (it says fresh mushrooms but they’re fresh mushrooms that have been coated and fried), mixed vegetable fried rice and vegan sesame chicken.
The salt & pepper fried mushrooms are suuuper good. I think they’re beech mushrooms. The coating is not too thick, not too thin with a lovely amount of crunch. They’re seasoned nicely and the mushrooms were still soft on the inside. It reminded me of popcorn chicken. They’re very tasty and satisfying. I could probably eat an entire mixing bowl full during a movie (I’d probably regret it later lol) but they’re a perfect appy/snack.
The vegan sesame chicken was yummy. The sauce or seasoning had kind of like a 5 spice flavour to it. Coating was nice - not too thick, not too thin. They weren’t soggy and the broccoli it came with was cooked nicely...still vibrant and not over cooked.
The mixed vegetable fried rice was okay. I liked that there was baby corn in it but the fried rice itself was too dark (possibly from soy sauce), lacking flavor, and missing that smokey charred wok flavor that every good fried rice has.
The restaurant was clean. I liked that they offered Chinese tea in the traditional cups and had the typical chilli sauce, chilli oil, salt & white pepper on all the tables like most Chinese restaurants do.
The service was great too and the girl serving us was really nice, friendly and sweet. I appreciated that she came to quality check and asked us if everything was okay.
Overall - we really enjoyed it! I’d give it a 4-4.5 and we would definitely come back to try other items

Salt and pepper pumpkin is good. Fried rice dish is plain, nothing special about it.

First off, I’m pretty sure everything is vegan... Either way, their veggie chow mein and potstickers were so satisfying! Plus, they offer free tea and soup when you sit down.

One of my go-tos - Edit
I’m sad to be moving away from this gem. I have eaten here many times and almost always like what I order. One I did not enjoy was the Veggie Lee-style fried rice, which is served wet with a gravy. I found it to be oddly bland with an unpleasant texture. However, there are many, many delicious options to choose from, and the service as always been nice. They do delivery through DoorDash, but save the packaging and stop in for a real face-to-face experience with some friends.

Awesome Local Vegan Restaurant - Edit
My family and I live in Hayward. And being vegetarian and on plant focused diet, we are always appreciative of local vegan and vegetarian restaurants.
Read moreVeggie Lee is currently the only one of its kind near our home.
Love the ambience and friendly service. They also have no onions or garlic in their menu, so no need to worry about bad breath afterwards. They have a lot of options. My favorite ones are fried rice, shezhuan noodles, crispy pumpkin.
Pros: no onion, garlic, fresh hot tea

Classic Chinese - Edit
Veggie Lee's offers all your favourite Chinese dishes but vegan! A great place for omni friends who can order General Tso 'chicken' or 'beef' and broccoli. My personal favourite is the salt and pepper fresh mushroom which is deep fried goodness! Always satisfies my cravings and I'm enjoying exploring the menu.

This place is super-good! Fresh, quick, good portions and great lunch value. Big beautiful pieces of fresh broccoli, peppers and greens, well seasoned tofu and mock meats, fluffy rice and easy tea. The decor is a classic Chinese style restaurant that takes me back to being a kid in the suburbs.

I was in Hayward from SF for work and was so glad to find this gem. I got the sesame chicken lunch special and it was SO GOOD. My bill was under $10 before tip. Service was lovely, space was clean. I'll definitely go again should I find myself out this way.

Wow - Edit
Great Chinese food. We had the tofu and pumpkin curry and the fermented tofu and mixed vegetables. It equaled or beat any Chinese food we have had in the US. The service was good. The restaurant is very nicely decorated.

Best Cantonese there is - Edit
This place beats any traditional Cantonese food because the variety of vegetable flavors gets to shine without all the thick syrupy sauces you usually get at other places. And you get tons of protein because many of the dishes have tofu in addition to a mock meat. Generous portions. The fried pumpkin and sizzling eggplant & fish are especially good. Hot and sour soup is so good and your non-vegan friends won't know it's vegan. Can't wait to go back and try more items.
Read morePros: Incredible flavors without lots of sugar and oil, Huge menu selection , Fried pumpkin!
Cons: A smidge over-priced, Closes promptly at 3:00 for lunch

authentic Cantonese! - Edit
Forget the vege chicken and go for the more authentic Chinese dishes like bean curd and pea leaves and things you don't normally see on Chinese restaurant menus because it is delicious!!! This place serves more Cantonese dishes than any restaurant in Oakland's Chinatown, so take advantage of the opportunity to sample Cantonese cuisine.

I've never eaten inside this establishment but have taken out multiple times. Pretty expansive menu with mock meats and anything you can want when it comes to Chinese. I believe they are advertising themselves to be all-vegan as well.
