Fantastic Lunch Specials - Edit
I have eaten lunch at this restaurant more than a dozen times and have never been disappointed. The soups are delicious and lunch entrees are well-prepared. The mango chicken, eggplant, and tofu dishes can't be beat. The portions are so generous, I usually take a doggy bag home.
Read moreAnd the lunch specials are available 7 days a week and most cost under $8.
Update, March 2023: I hadn't eaten there since before the Pandemic. Stopped by for lunch and the food remains delicious, with the Lunch Specials at a very reasonable $8-9. The main difference is the emphasis on Take Out: You can still dine in, but food will be served in takeout containers.

Pros: excellent food, good value, large portions
Cons: No longer comfortable for a dine-in experience.

Much better options out there - Edit
There are now so many vegan Chinese and pan-Asian restaurants in NYC that places like this just don’t make the cut. Skip this one and head to Chun Vegetarian, Dao Palate, or LuAnne’s Wild Ginger. The food here was really mediocre.

Classic Chinese food made vegan - Edit
This was the first vegetarian/vegan restaurant I ever visited 12 years ago when I first cut out meat from my diet. It was still at its old location on Flatbush Avenue. After not coming here for a few years (moved to Queens), I started visiting again and more often and found that it’s just as delicious as I remembered!
Read moreEven though I was never the biggest fan of Chinese food, what I liked about it the most was the “experience” of eating it. I always liked the idea of eating semi-greasy and inexpensive food in front of my TV right out of the iconic Chinese food containers. That feeling is exactly what I get every time I eat at Vegetarian Palate, except it’s a LOT healthier.
Pros: Relatively inexpensive, Friendly service

Get the boneless ribs! - Edit
Hands down the best boneless ribs I’ve EVER had. Biiiig portion. Flavorful and sauce is painted on, not lapped on. Perfect. I called just to make sure it was vegan. VERY succulent, the mock meat is so tender it almost falls apart. I could see carnivores loving this. ALL DESSERTS vegan according to man on the phone. Non vegan: Loméin (-egg noodles-which can be subbed for rice noodles), stir fried noodles (-egg noodles cannot be subbed 😔), and wanton, including wanton soup - again, eggs! ENJOY!

This place is awesome! - Edit
Loved the food! A big splurge for me since I don't typically eat fried foods but the chicken nuggets were excellent, as were the steamed spinach dumplings. We had brown rice with veggies which was delicious, spring rolls were really good, and an order of edamame rounded out our meal. All of these were appetizers, and they were large portions. Everything is vegan except for a few dishes with egg noodles, which you could substitute for rice noodles. Extensive list of "meat" meals with mock beef, fish and chicken and even duck and turkey. They also have a couple of desserts (I didn't have room left to try!). Overall, very good for the money and would highly recommend. My non-vegan niece thought that the food was fresh and the recipes unique, and thoroughly enjoyed everything as well.
Read moreUPDATE: Recently went twice in May 2017 -- had the lunch special chicken curry -- out of this world! Huge portion of soy chicken nuggets with broccoli and potatoes in a rich, creamy sauce with a large side of brown rice and soup or spring role -- all for $6.95! AND that's till 4:00 pm! I'm going to Manhattan in August and will definitely make the trip to Brooklyn with my husband to have lunch/dinner there. This is an undiscovered gem for delicious vegan food at ridiculously low prices. Can't wait to go back!

Best Vegan Food In Brooklyn - Edit
Ignore the bad reviews! This place is awesome! When my girlfriend and I lived in Brooklyn we ordered from Vegetarian Palate almost every night.
Read moreHighly recommend: Salt'n'Pepper Chicken Tenders, Lemon Chicken, Chicken Curry with Potatoes, STRAWBERRY ICE CREAM (best I've ever had).
Really cool that they have fresh juices too, a lot of vegan Asian places don't.
Make sure you watch out for the egg-based noodles if you're a vegan, other than that I think everything is vegan.
Prices are mega reasonable, especially the lunch specials.
The part of the neighborhood their current location is in is a little bleh, but great place to order takeout.
Pros: yummy vegan food, very affordable, freaking strawberry ice cream!
Cons: serve egg in a few dishes, neighborhood

RUN, DON'T WALK TO THIS PLACE.
Read moreas a new vegan, i know how to cook my meals at home to make them taste really good without adding a lot of salt and sugar. but when i eat out - even at vegan-friendly restaurants, i am always disappointed in the amount of oil, fat and sugar that is used to get flavor.
THIS PLACE ROCKS.
my friend who brought me here was laughing at how happy i was to be eating this food. and you know what? you could tell the server was PROUD to bring such good food, healthy and tasty to our table. having been a waitress in the past, i can tell you that means a great deal.

Looks good but pretty bland - Edit
I was really excited to go here because I read a review of it in Satya and heard it had a huge menu but after ordering many things from the menu I keep getting let down. The food is rather bland and with the presentation just looks inedible sometimes. The roast chicken looks like you put seitan in a jello mold in the shape of a chicken, scallion pancakes are very very greasy, banana split comes on too small a plate and your ice cream will fall off, etc. They do have the same heavily breaded chicken pieces as Red Bamboo so if you order something bad you can still get that to go and know you'll be safe but other than that I don't find it worth it.

Cons: bland, sometimes gross, poor presentation
