I worked as a delivery driver/kitchen helper for Vegan Pizza House before the days when the delivery partners came in and Jimmy Hoang (the owner) was always exploiting his workers. During the times I worked for him I did not know my full rights as a worker and I thought it was a good cause to support him and the restaurant as I am a vegan as well. This was a big mistake I made and Jimmy took full advantage of this. He always tried to push things tight to run his business even if it was against our safety. When orders got crazy he would lie to customers and say things like your order would be ready in half an hour when it would actually take 4 hours. Another big thing was that our wages would always be paid late and some cheques would bounce. He always claimed that it was an accounting error which is surprising for it to happen all the time. He never paid tips unless I asked for it. When I would ask Jimmy to give me the fair share of tips customers paid by card when I was the only worker in the kitchen he would say "it is too late as you should have let me known sooner as I have to go through it all" and it would only be like a couple of days after. He just wanted to keep everything for himself. He also would deduct half hour lunch breaks from our pay even if we never took a break and for shifts less than 5 hours. Now I am seeing that he is hiring immigrant workers and another of my colleagues also posted a review of Jimmy's exploitation on google reviews which is all correct. I hear he has been mistreating them as well. Earlier this year I recorded a chat with Jimmy about exploitation in which he told me to get out of the restaurant and was not wearing a mask while handling food. Although, he is very warm and humble to customers coming in the restaurant but he is very cold to his employees, especially immigrant workers desperate for work. Please consider all of this when supporting this establishment.
