In 2013, Veg Out Time moved from 63A Fitzroy St to this spot and renamed Veggie Time. Look for the green signage with a red "V." Casual space. Offers menu of Asian vegetarian and vegan food. There is a steamtable of cooked dishes on display where you could pick and choose what you'd like. Mainly vegan except egg in fried rice on request. Reported closed, Aug 2019.

Closed

As from August 2019, sadly Vegie Time St Kilda is now closed for business. The owner messaged us to let us know. Such a shame, it was a great place with lovely people.

Consistently delicious

Been coming for YEARS. Absolutely terrific place to eat. Everything is so good. Spring rolls are honestly the best I have ever had. The Thai basil tofu and pumpkin curry are my favourites. And the pad Thai is amazing. Always consistent. Always clean. Lovely staff.

Great food at Veggie Time

Fantastic, clean, delicious vegan and vegetarian food. Well priced and friendly staff. Have been going there for takeaway or sit in at least once a week for years. Highly recommend it. Tom the owner and only chef will vary the menu for you without a problem. Occasional minor language issue with new staff. Tram stop right out the front.

Pros: Fantastic, clean, delicious food, Tram stop right out the front., Friendly staff

Cons: Occasional minor language issue with new staff.

Delicious Food, Excellent Value, Casual Eatery or Take-Away

Veggie Time is an underappreciated gem within the St Kilda area vegetarian scene.

It is not a formal restaurant, it is a little eatery with one long table, stools along the window, and seating for around 12 people at tables and chairs outside. It is therefore designed for casual eating or take away, and not for a formal eHarmony date.

There are a number of dishes which can be made to order such as noodles, stir fries, laksa, and tempura. However the best value seems to be the preprepared dishes served up in the bain-marie. These include things like thai vegies, dhals, curry laksa vegies, various curries such as chickpea and sweet potato and pumpkin and eggplant, and basic stir-fry.

You usually have the choice of white or brown rice and then you can add the bain-marie dishes you select. The current pricing is $9 for 1 selection, $10 for 2, and $11 for 3.

Choose wisely for a taste sensation as you move around your plate, or just stick to one selection.

Sometimes there are also fried items available such as curry puffs, spring rolls, and gyoza.

These guys do a great job I hope they stick around for many years to come.

Pros: Delicious range of foods with variety of flavours, Inexpensive, Casual relaxed eating or take-away

Cons: No cons, it does what it sets out to do

Great value tasty food

We catered for a group with 7 of the different options from the bain marie as well as roti. All the meals were tasty and it was very good value. The staff were friendly and helpful. They were also happy to cook up meals for people with special dietary requirements (eg. no onion or garlic) and were pretty quick making these meals. There is some seating inside. It has a casual feel. I'd be keen to eat here again.

Good cheap food

We enjoyed the tofu and veg noodle soup, and roti with curry. Everything is vegan unless you ask for egg to be added. They have eftpos now with no minimum purchase.

Great value

A great place to fill up for very little cash!

Tasty Asian style meals with plenty of Vegan options. Will definitely return again when next in the area.

Have eaten here several times now and have been quite happy with the various offerings. Today we discovered that all meals aside from Butter Mock Chicken are Vegan or can be made Vegan if egg is omitted eg Fried Rice.

Nicely Spiced

Not a fancy place but then none of the food outlets along this strip could be described as fancy. You can sit inside or out although there is not a huge number of seats. I had the brown rice with two veg choices and this proved to be a large amount of food for such a reasonable price. Everything was nicely spiced and I was well satisfied. All the items are listed on the glass in front of the food which is a great way to present the choices.

Scrumptious lunch and dinner bar

This place is great for a quick meal. Wholesome, delicious, satisfying, fast and budget priced. There is a big range of ready made dishes in the bain marie, and it all looked fresh and delicious. The chef was constantly cooking replacement food as there was a high turnover of people coming through. The dishes ranged in variety and flavour and from mild to hot. I had the hot Thai green curry which was superbly hot and spicy but not overdone - still edible by a westerner! All the veggies were cooked to a perfect degree of tender-crispiness. The Thai basil tofu was the best one we tried. The pumpkin curry was delicious but quite sweet. The stir fried veggies were a simple complement to the other stronger flavoured dishes. They also had a gorgeous looking menu of made to order dishes which all looked very enticing. Looking forward to my next visit.

Pros: Mostly vegan (look out for eggs), Delicious and fresh, Fast service and budget prices

Vegan heaven

For a quick vegan take-away or dining outside on the footpath (with dogs) watching eclectic St Kilda pass by; this place is hard to beat. I am addicted to the yellow curry with tofu and mushroom (silky tofu with hints of cinnamon/nutmeg in sweet coconut) and eggplant masala (high on tomato) on nutty brown rice. Good prices, friendly service and nice position to walk to beach for sunset.

Pros: delicious food - many vegan options, reasonable prices, variety of dishes/cuisines

Cons: unatmospheric indoor dining

Impressive take away

This place is a true gem. The food is about 90% vegan, and marked where it isn't. The Thai was very flavourful and great value for money. At times almost TOO flavourful (rich in coconut milk) but that's a minor quibble. This resto is really worth a visit. Nothing flash in terms of atmosphere, but great cheap food.

Pros: Huge portions

Excellent

Other than the lack of tasty vegan desserts (fruit crumble and fruit salad just don't cut it), this restaurant is one of my favourites. The brown rice with two dishes deal is a great value and all the (vegan) dishes are amazing.

Pros: delicious, good value, great atmosphere

Cons: no gourmet vegan desserts
