Tasty, quick, healthy

Very convenient location in beautiful spot by river. Everything was tasty and quick to arrive. Would love a bigger menu with more options and bigger portions. Keep up the good work!

Pros: Nice vegan meat in Buddha Bowl, Baby salad mix was so tasty , Nice location with a view

Cons: Brown rice was too hard. Not cooked enough, Bit expensive, Would like bigger portions

Lovely feel

Had a vibrant, fresh dinner at this restaurant, with a view overlooking the river. Fried tempeh for entree and two bowls for dinner. The menu was limited but portions were decent sized. The atmosphere is cosy & artsy, with books and records lining the walls.

Some muffins & cakes on offer as well. Would definitely come back here for a nourishing feed, although it was a little pricey.

Pros: Loads of veggies, Interior/atmosphere

Cons: Little expensive

Delicious meal overlooking the river

We had vegan panini and pasta carbonara for dinner followed by a matcha and chocolate chip muffin and chocolate pineapple cheesecake. Everything was delicious and the venue was lovely. We would be keen to come back.

Delicious!

The breakfast plate and smoothie bowl were delicious, and they have the best bread from Taro bakery. They also had a buddha bowl, which I had for dinner and it was one of the best things I have ever had!

Pros: Amazing food, good ingredients

Cons: Expensive

Delightful spot

Went for a quick dinner, wasn't disappointed. The homemade ginger ale was delicious, and the soup and "soy meat" were great. Reasonably priced as well, in my opinion.

Pros: Varied menu, Lots of interesting drinks

Delicious lunch

Great view, nice atmosphere. Had tumeric latte, the obanzai platter and panini. Everything was delicious. The “carrot carbonara” on the platter, and the fried soy meat was incredible.

2 meals so far...

I dropped in yesterday and was so happy. I ordered the Obanzai Plate (assortment of deliciousness) and by time I was finished I barely had room to cram in the raw pineapple/chocolate cake! The staff were great, friendly, beautiful smiles, quick, and very helpful! The food was superb.

It was so good I went back today to try the Buddha Bowl but it was sold out. I had the curry from the dinner menu and it is the best curry I have had in a long time!

Pros: Excellent vegan food, Beautiful view, Beautiful staff

Cons: It is a little pricey but c’est la vie!

Menu of buzzwords. Side of disappointment

Very rare I’ll let a vegan place have it but I was so incredibly underwhelmed with this one. I tried to visit one time before and it wasn’t open when it was supposed to be so was ready for this to be a bit spesh but it so wasn’t! Had brunch.. lucky I was after a light bite ‘cos there wasn’t much to it! I have honestly garnished my dinner with more pepper than they serve quinoa and seeds! The only thing that wasn’t bland was the price.

Pros: Tasteful hipster decor , Usual polite Japanese service , Bread was nice if ya happy to fill on that

Cons: Everything else, Meager meals , Higher end price for what it is

Completely agree - when we visited it we had expensive small portions of generic western vegan food. It wasn't bad, but this is Kyoto! I cannot understand people visiting Kyoto and eating "buddha bowls" when there is world-class *real* Buddhist food available for less money.

My wife was irritated by them having beer bottles as decoration, but not for sale.

Amazing coffee!

The best coffee I've had in Japan! We ordered the daily brew and bonsoy latte which were really good, with a matcha choc chip muffin. Super delicious, would definitely recommend for a treat.

Cons: Slightly expensive, it was 500 yen for a muffin.

Great location and ambience

I went at night so didn't get to capitalise on the river view but it would be great during daylight no doubt.
Nice smallish venue though a little limited on the options. Super friendly staff.

Cons: Menu a little lacking

Chilled cafe overlooking river

Delicious food and nice coffee, a quiet space to sit and meet other locals and travellers. Big windows overlooking the river make the space bright and cosy.

Pros: Nice having only vegan options to choose, Beautiful light space, Delicious food

Watching The River roll By

Veg Out is a relaxing little restaurant on the Kamo River, we sat at the window seats. I ordered the Pasta Carbonara, it was perfect and plenty of it. My wife ordered the Soy Meat dish and loved the taste. The organic wine is reasonably priced so you are tempted to have a second. All in all a most enjoyable dinner. I will return if ever in Kyoto again to try the rest of the menu it looked fabulous.

Pros: Good view of the river , Great food, Efficient service

Cons: None

Portions were to small for the price

Had the dinner curry plate; it was sweet even though I asked if it was (and they said that it was not). Salad oddly came with no dressing. Wouldn’t go back, though the view was great.

Pros: River view, All vegan

Cons: Small portions for the price. , Dinner options are slim. , It’s listed here as macrobiotic, but it’s not.

Nice Location

Full vegan menu, so far the only place that offers kombucha, with loads of deserts and a mini health food store. Had a nice view of the river if you like that kind of thing. Great customer service. The Buddha Bowl is a win 👌

Breakfast

Had the tofu panini with a matcha latte and my sister had the toast of the day which was avo toast with salsa on top and a berry smoothie. We both really enjoyed our meals and the bread is which fresh baked was so yummy. I recommend eating here.

Cafè hours??? Weak Menu

The meals during Cafè hours are insulting in comparison to the lunch, breakfast and dinner options.

Pros: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Menus Look Great

Cons: Extremely weak Menu during Cafè hours

Kept going back

We lucked out by staying near this place. Tried the dinner/breakfast options on multiple days and was never disappointed. The aesthetic is beautiful and overlooks the river, food is good - highly recommend.

good food, good view

This place is quiet and peaceful with a nice view of the river. They have the tables and chairs set up so that more people can enjoy looking out the window.

I ordered a set lunch, and even though I was full from it, I ordered a slice of the raw cake and I'm glad I did, everything was so delicious! I wanted to go back again another day but ran out of time.

おいし!

Very delicious and wonderful atmosphere. Went for dinner the first time thinking we would get something light but ended up getting the curry and Buddha bowl and couldn't have been happier. Super satisfying and doesn't break the bank. Went again a few days later for lunch and got the bonsoy latte and taco rice. The flavours are incredible and filling.

Pros: Inexpensive, Great atmosphere, Staff can speak English

Check if open first! Worth coming back :)

We took a chance that ‘standard’ evening opening hours reported online were solid only to find it closed, after a long walk at the end of a long day! Came back the next day and had more luck, got a nice seat overlooking the river and a welcome and delicious taco salad - generous portion - Heartland organic beer and a yummy matcha muffin to finish.

Pros: Good selection of vegan options, Good vibes

Cons: May not always be open when you’d guess!
