Delicious, filling - Edit
Great food in a very fun and open setting. Good wait time considering the popular area. Filling food with good portions, but not so much it overfills you.

Very casual vegan eatery in Abbott Square…We love the tacos and the various stews that are offered. Order and pick up at the counter, and go hang in the square with your favorite beverage from one of the local establishments..might even catch live music as you eat your fantastic meal!

In an exceptional food court - Edit
They were accommodating when we wanted our plantain without the pepper and spice. Nearby chai/coffee stand had almond milk to add to our meal. There is nice outdoor seating in front of the art museum.

Good but slightly-pricey fast casual fare right off Pacific ave. Fast service and generous portions.

Peanut Stewpendous - Edit
I ordered the peanut stew. I generally don't like sweet potatoes or collard greens, but they combined well with the peanuts and brown rice. The meal was flavorful and filling.

Awesome, hearty meal! - Edit
The place is set in a food court and truthfully didn't have a lot of expectations especially as there was a notice of sorts that all food is freshly made and service maybe slow. However, we were all pleasantly surprised that the food was quickly ready and tasted so so good. We had the cassava fries and peppered plantains for appetizers; pumpkin seed curry and plantain curry as entrees. Don't have any complaints. Will surely visit this place again.

I love their cassava fries. Slow, but it’s because they’re making it fresh. Expensive but that’s reflected in their ingredients and taste. Lots of different flavors so everyone is happy!

Vegan heaven! - Edit
We stopped by Veg on the Edge for lunch while in Santa Cruz for the weekend, and it was far and away the culinary highlight of our trip! We had the pumpkin seed stew, peanut stew, and cassava fries. Amazing, super fresh flavors… and everything on the menu is vegan! We were so wowed that we stopped by the counter afterwards to give our compliments to the owner, and he was absolutely lovely (as were the rest of the staff). Highly, highly recommend.

Great Black Rice - Edit
Enjoyed black rice with tofu the most. The plantain curry with no plantain (they ran out) but with sausage was pretty good too.

We stopped in Santa Cruz and had a fantastic meal at Veg on the Edge 6-6-21. The staff was so nice and helpful- we had the pumpkin seed stew, a scramble taco and Suya taco, and plantains. Absolutely delicious and really hit the spot.

Make sure you stop by this little restaurant among a variety of other food venues in the Abbot Square Market, right next to the Museum of Arts and History. You order at the counter and wait a few minutes for the one person booth preparing food and taking orders to get your dishes out. The shiitake suya bowl was fabulous, as was the plantain side dish. They also have vegan cookies, including gluten free ones - though we didn’t have room.

The owner had a hard time keeping up with the few customers who were there on a Tuesday night. I guess the dishes are very involved, and they taste delicious! One of my friends had the pumpkin seed stew, which came out the fastest. About 20-30 minutes of waiting was needed for the cassava fries, pepper soup, and beet & pesto salad to come out. But if you’re really peckish, you can always start with a cookie since the various flavors are prepackaged and ready to go! I also tried a friend’s peppered plantains, which were yummy. Lovely West African food that wins over non-vegans and vegans alike. Highly recommended!

Owner AND food AMAZING! - Edit
This is our 2nd time and this will not be our last! We want to try just about everything on the menu. The portions are big and there is great flavor without being spicy hot (we can’t do spicy). Everything is so fresh! I love being able to get sweet potatoes and collard green in a meal. And the avocado sauce is unlike anything we’ve had...so delicious!

I used to work across the street from this place and I went many times for lunch. I love that it’s all vegan and I can try a different item each time! One of my favorites was the black rice bowl with either the beyond sausage or tofu with a delicious sauce they put on top!

Pretty good - Edit
Pretty good food. All vegan menu. The experience left a lot to be desired- awkward staff, incorrect order, very slow for the food to come out and didn’t get everything at the same time. I understand they’re not fast food but it seemed a lot of people were unhappy with the service.

Wholesome Flavorful Vegan Food - Edit
I was on jury duty last week and went to Veg On The Edge for lunch each day as I found that the service was excellent - food was available timely and the staff very friendly and helpful, and the dishes were very tasty. I had the Shiitake salad one day, a taco another day, and the Shiitake bowl another. Very satisfying. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because the food is a bit too oily and salty for my tastes (probably because I use very little of either in my own cooking!). So wonderful to have a food enterprise that is totally whole food vegan in downtown Santa Cruz. I'll spread the word!

So delicious... & friendly too! - Edit
Perfect. So delicious. Friendly owners cooking right there- and he filled me in on Nigeria getting more vegan friendly as everyone learns more about the impact on the planet. The food was so tasty. I got the Egusi (pumpkin seed stew) and my husband got the black rice bowl. We were both thrilled and kept switching so we could eat the other dish too! Everything's vegan, so that makes it easy too. We'll be back!
