There’s nothing like a well run fine dining Vegan Restaurant. - Edit
As vegans, I think one of the issues that we face is that many of the restaurants are Takeaway style or definitely casual in one way or the other. This is the quintessential find dining restaurant that thankfully is vegan. Staff is very knowledgeable and glad to be serving you. The atmosphere is hi end and enchanting. The mushroom carpaccio was solid. The pretzel with fondue was great as well, but I wish they would haveGiven us more fondue cheese. As it turns out, all the portions are fairly small, but it’s definitely quality over see quantity. And then we we also had the grilled corn pieces piled over a bed of chickpea pate of sorts, or maybe it was eggplant not sure. It was definitely savory. Find dining and five stars all the way!

Perfect spot for special occasion - Edit
This place has awesome food! Menu is tapas style and broken into 3 courses. The waiters suggest you have one plate from each course. You will want to do that because plates and small. Everything I had I absolutely loved! Menu changes some items seasonally, so everything tastes fresh. Expect to pay a decent amount of money to actually be full.

Best vegan food in Philadelphia - Edit
Visiting the area and took my family of 3 out for dinner. We were impressed with the selections. Portions are small, but the flavor and quality is super.. definately the best vegan experience we had so far in the east coast.

The food here is simply beautiful. Fresh veg cooked and presented in ways you wouldn’t expect. The plates are small so you’ll need at least 2 to 3 dishes per person. It is expensive but worth the money.

Quality, Not Quantity - Edit
Vedge is a wonderful place to dine, as long as you understand what you're getting. They only serve small plates, and by small I mean only a few bites. A reasonably hungry person can easily eat 3 or 4 of them. But the food is amazing and exquisitely presented. You will encounter flavors you didn't even know existed. No, it's not cheap, and yes, you need a reservation. Plan accordingly and enjoy the experience!

Came here for my birthday with my boyfriend once ... we were literally raving about it ... I had the grilled tofu and then the three chocolate dessert. Make sure to book a reservation.

Fine dining for sure. Small portions so we left a little hungry, but everything we had was delicious. The service was superior. I just wish they served bigger portions for the price.

The best meal I've ever eaten in my life. No photos as it was eaten too quickly. I am still drooling over the sauce that comes with the soft pretzel starter... SO good.

Wow! I see why it takes months to get in! - Edit
Every dish I tried here was amazingly delicious. This includes the wood roasted carrot, ("pumpernickel, crushed garbanzos, carrot mustard, carrot kraut"), the ssamjang glazed tofu ("edame puree, burnt miso, cucumber, sea beans, toasted nori"), and the leek tart ("farinata, flaked potato, black garlic jam"). My dining companions also raved about every dish they tried.
Read moreThe staff is very helpful, and helps navigate food allergies. I ordered from the gluten-free menu, and wait staff told me which items had tomatoes, which I need to avoid.
If you're price sensitive, Vedge is not the best value, as portion sizes are on the small side, and prices are high for the portion size. In their defense, the dishes are "organic whenever possible" and labor intensive gourmet. If you are driving there, and can't find a parking meter, the closest parking lot is about $12.00 for 1 hour, and $25.00 if you run over. (You will.) If you can handle the price, the dining experience is WOW!
Other than the expense, the other downside is that they only have 2 single-stall restrooms for the entire restaurant. Two lines formed when I was there, both 4 people long.
I highly recommend Vedge as a special occasion restaurant.
Pros: Delicious Food, Food "organic whenever possible", Helpful staff
Cons: Pricey for the portion size, Nearest parking lot very expensive, Long lines form at their 2 restrooms

Nice Atmosphere - Edit
We went here while visiting the city recently. We elected not to sit down, as we went with our very young children, and it didn't really seem like a child-friendly environment. The prices are a little high, and the portions a bit small. We picked up a soft pretzel ($15 or so after taxes) to go. It turned out to be more like a very small loaf of bread than a soft pretzel. The cheese dip with it was pretty tasty. The staff was friendly, and we really liked the atmosphere. We will definitely give it another shot next time we are in town, and child free.

Wonderful!! - Edit
Dinner was amazing. Definitely in my top five favorite higher end vegan restaurants (Kindred in San Diego, Candle 79 NYC, Marmalade in PR not exclusively vegan but tons of options, waiting on my fifth favorite :) ). Staff was amazing, service was quick, cocktails were delish and food was awesome. Some dishes definitely shined more than others. I’m becoming more of a fan of small plates because you get to try more but the plates ran 12-13 a plate and it racks up. That being said it was worth it. Loved the ambience and was happy to look around and see a very diverse crowd of people, I assumed not all were vegans so made me happy that people are opening up. Also, on yelp in the $$$-$$$$ vedge is the best restaurant in Philadelphia based on score!! How awesome!

have people lost their minds? - Edit
I keep wondering if the reviews about this place are paid for, or if these people got their meals for free or something.
Read moreThis place is an insult to veganism. Not because the food doesn't taste good, but because they price their dishes, which should really be called "BITES" outrageously high. We paid so much money only to leave the restaurant hungry! I've never left any vegan restaurant hungry. This was after ordering from all sections on the menu, the bill was already over $130 (3 people) when we just decided to cut our losses and leave.
This restaurant is the reason I'll never support V Street either (same owner). I think it's wrong to rip people off, and in the name of veganism! -- we all know the myth about vegan food being expensive-- it's the opposite that is true, and this restaurant helps teach the world that it's expensive to eat Vegan, and that you'd be hungry all the time.
Nunzi
*Disclaimer: not paid for by the restaurant, and didn't get a free meal*
Read moreWhile I understand where you are coming from regarding all of your topics, the cost, the stereotypes, portion sizes, etc.
Here are some things to consider:
- The server (at least in our case), told us that the plate sizes are small, and that typically its best if each person orders one dish from each section. So you could have made the determination on price based on that from jump.
- Part of the cost of eating at a Vedge, is clearly the ambiance of the restaurant. It's pretty upscale, especially for a vegan restaurant, primarily the decor, the service, drink options, etc. If you wanted a cheap vegan place, you could have gone to a place like HipCityVeg and sat in a cramped space and had a much cheaper meal. (see next point to further elaborate).
- Part of the cost ALSO is that the dishes they are serving aren't even faux meat options, they're using higher quality ingredients, and more interesting plates that cost more to make than a "Chik'n sandwich" or Seitan tips with broccoli..
Sorry to hear you didn't like your experience, but perhaps you should have checked the menu, or read reviews about the place first?

Worth the wait. - Edit
I was in Philly last year and tried to get in to this spot then, but there were no openings. This year, I knew I’d be back in Philly and set reservations 2 months in advance. It may not be easy to get into, but the food was so worth the wait. I went with a friend who is not a vegetarian and she loved it, too. The only thing that could make it better would be larger serving sizes. If you love mushrooms, this place is a must. Had mushrooms I haven’t had elsewhere served in delectable ways!

They had an oil- free menu - Edit
This is what I call when business goes with our needs and demands! Just wow! It was a beautiful light dinner. We loved our food. It’s more life upper market restaurant with small portions, so don’t expect to be full after a entree and a main meal. Would definitely come back! If you are planning a dinner- reservation reservation highly recommended.

Eat everything - Edit
You definitely have to sample as much as the menu as you can - you could get 2 or 3 dishes and dislike it all but overall it’s incredible. The fondue is cheesier than cheese itself, the carrots are next level but the asparagus carbonara is the real star of the show. I went through 4 glasses of canola cola and could still go back for more.

I like the food here. The staff is friendly and the vibe is good. The drinks are alright. The wine selection is not good. I DO recommend eating here tho. Everyone says it's overpriced but it really isn't. The food is quality. If you're on a budget just sit at the bar and order the pretzel roll with fondue...it's life changing. Staff is really helpful.

Satisfying the most discriminating palates.... - Edit
Philadelphia “The City of Love” certainly lives up to it’s reputation . . . especially in way of fine dining in every type of cuisine. Satisfying the most discriminating palates of meat lovers, seafood eaters and vegans. And surprisingly! There’s one restaurant that seems to attract them all without compromising—VEDGE. Although they accept walk-in, you’ll find out quickly why so many book way in advance.
Read moreThe ambiance of this place is cozy, warm, and inviting along with many of its patrons. The staff are very professional, polite and courteous. Kudos to Megan, our waitress, and her serving assistants for paying attention to little/fine details and making sure the table remains clean and fresh flatware and plates were reset in between courses:
VEDGE BAR
DIRT LIST
THE GRILL
DESSERT
Starting with the first three courses, the food was savory, full of flavor and plated artfully. And the final entree of:
SEARED MAITAKE MUSHROOMS
smoked remoulade, grilled celery, celery root fritter. May explain why it was listed last on THE GRILL menu—saving the best for last. We’ll save our thoughts about the dessert. Why? So that you don’t waste time making your reservations.

I cannot even explain how good the food was. I can’t quite wrap my head around how the ingredients came together to make such marvelous food, but they did. It was some of the best food i had ever tasted. I never would have thought carrot would make a main dish, but i was wrong. Everything was wonderfully prepared and beautifully presented.
