A Tasty Vegan Options In Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica. - Edit
You DON’T have to sacrifice eating local cuisine because you’re vegan. The flavours of Costa Rica are just as wonderful when they are vegan and this sweet place shows you that. The fresh juices that are big part of Costa Rica are delicious. Lots of variety. Pura Vida in all its glory!

Tasty & Refreshing - Edit
Had dinner here during a very loud thunderstorm. The open air but covered space is nice. The food was very tasty. I had the zoodles pesto. It had a lot of flavor. The dish was warm, not cold. I had expected a salad like dish. I also had the pb&j smoothie. So yummy. Highly recommend that.

Super big bowls - Edit
I’m from California and when I read bowl on the menu I imagined a tiny health bowl L.A. style. I’m a very active guy and have the appetite of a small gorilla.
Read moreI am so grateful for the previous reviews that mentioned the size of of the bowls. I included a photo of my empty bowl with an iPhone for comparison.
Super filling dinner portion with amazing flavor. The vegan cheese sauce was delightful.
Would recommend to fellow vegans looking for a filling meal. Super tasty 5 stars
Pros: Lots of vegan options, Great location close to Manuel Antonio
Cons: Next to a busy loud road, Service was just okay but food was amazing

Wow!
Read moreDelicious food, very interesting combinations of flavors.
The host/cook was gracious and accommodating of our needs.
He made us custom dishes and considered our sensativities and the ingredients we don't like.
My husband who isn't vegan, also really enjoyed it and wants to come back!
Highly recommended and definitely will come back tomorrow!

The best in Costa Rica so far - Edit
Food is amazing, menu has a lot of options and variety, staff is super friendly and kind, the dishes are unbelievable. The place is a little bit hidden but tables outside are comfy. Also, it’s not expensive for what it is. If I come back to Manuel Antonio I will repeat every single day. Gluten free 100%

Great menu, great flavor! - Edit
I had the green smoothie bowl, friends had savory rice bowls with a vegan cheeze sauce made from cashews and nutritional yeast. Food was fresh and tasted great. It took awhile for our order to be ready, about 45 minutes, but I think they had some call in orders ahead of ours and there were only 2 people working. The portions were also a little on the small side, but price was reasonable for the area.

Great place to go for healthy, flavorful vegan options! The savory bowls are large and filled with unique flavor combinations. We also had the cacao energy drink - delicious, a cold version of spicy hot chocolate.

Yummy vegan food - Edit
I came here a couple of times during my stay in MA and really enjoyed my food both times. They also have some tasty drinks; I tried the mocha and traditional cacao, both come cold and are delicious. Food wise I had the varuna bowl and the coconut curry zoodles, both had lovely flavours and were very filling. Definitely get a chocolate truffle, sensational! 😋 service can be a little slow but...pura vida!

Yummy! - Edit
The food was absolutely delicious thought definitely the most expensive place I've been to in Costa Rica (about 10$ US). Desserts around 5$ US. It had a great atmosphere and by far, the best food I've ate.

Wonderful flavors healthy filling food - Edit
We were delighted chatting to the owner, who has put a lot of care into the menu. The food was surprising combinations and delicious flavors, while being very healthy and fresh. Really good cacao, loved the guacamole, Varuna and the Tico bowl, really balanced flavors and generous portions. The food is prepared fresh, so it does take a little longer, but so worth it! We also had fresh nice cream prepared fresh that was yummy! You must come here while you are in town!

Hit or miss service and food. - Edit
I’ve been a few times and twice I ordered food and things weren’t brought out with the order. When I reminded them they said I didn’t order them and wanted to charge me again. They have some tasty dishes but others are a miss. Varuna bowl and curry bowl are not good. A little pricy.

Delicious, healthy, incredible vegan food! - Edit
Varuna is the best of the best! The food is incredibly fresh, healthy, delicious, vegan, and frankly, inspired!! Each dish, dessert, and beverage is uniquely crafted and balanced. The flavors are wonderful and complementary. And it just feels great to eat clean and compassionate. Plus, the food sits so well after the meal, provides tons of energy, and you don’t feel bloated or overly full like many other restaurants. Phani is such a kind host and is working so hard to make Varuna a welcoming, inspiring place to eat and enjoy community. We love chatting with him about the nutrition qualities of his ingredients and how he designed all the unique dishes, drinks, and desserts. The matcha latte with real almond/coconut milk and rose petals on top is to die for and the bowls are incredible. It’s centrally located in Manuel Antonio for easy access as well! We just can’t say enough great things about Varuna! We ate there three times during our last stay in MA. Can’t wait to be back soon!

Exquisite and lovely food, tho a little overpriced - Edit
Costa Rica is an awesome country with pretty many aware inhabitants; unfortunately the progress society is always able to turn simple, healthy and cruelty free food into something expensive. I know it's not all their fault if the menu cost is pretty much overpriced but they could lower it a bit and maybe more people would come. Self/local veggie/fruits market should be encouraged and for sure the costs will drastically drop. It's a long way to the top if you wanna rock n roll.

Huge tasty, healthy bowls - Edit
Very nice all vegan place with easy service, huge portions at fair prices. The food took a little longer. However, patience pays off. I had the Varuna Bowl. It was excellent. My s/o had the Tico bowl. When ordering it was pointed out that one ingredient was out and an alternative was offered. We were both amazed at the portion size. The vegan cheese sauce is the hit.
Read moreYou have to order at the counter, food is brought to the table, you sit under cover in the open air. The staff is extremely friendly and the food is just delicious.
I have to say something about the slow food. I don't know if it's the surrounding establishments or what it's due to, but. There are many restaurants in the area that cater to US tourists. It is extremely fast to have a meal there. The food is brought quickly, after it has been quickly deep fried, it is eaten quickly and as soon as you are finished your plate is snatched away. We as Europeans were shocked by this. Cozy is different. Therefore, a little waiting for a healthy slow food is also completely in order.

Slow service and mediocre food - Edit
I was really excited to stop here after visiting Manuel Antonio, but I left pretty disappointed. It took 50 minutes to get my food when there were only 2 people who ordered before me. Another 2 people ordered after me and got their food before me. I kept telling myself “pura vida,” but my order was basically a salad I could have made at home in 5 minutes. I ordered the Deep Jungle, and it was missing ingredients (no kale or cabbage). It was good, but again, a basic salad. I also ordered the Sweet, Hot Plantain as an appetizer, but it came after my salad. The tahini sauce on it was very thick and overwhelming and the plantain itself was dry.
Read moreI dislike giving fully vegan restaurants mediocre reviews, but this place just didn’t do it for me. Maybe their juices and smoothies are worth the stop, but I don’t think I’d go back unless I were staying in the area for an extended period.

Amazing flavors - Edit
I had the Varuna bowl without beetroot and spring onions, my partner had the chickpea curry one. Both tasted amazing, the curry one had a really intensive flavor that made the bowl easily one of the best foods I tried in a while. My bowl had palm heart which I never tried or even heard of before and it was soooo good. Every ingredient was on point. Only the sesame was missing but who cares. The portions were decent. The restaurant is easy to find, it's exactly where Google Maps says it is and there's a huge sign outdoor. Dunno how you can miss that. The staff is friendly and we didn't wait too long for our food (roughly 30 minutes I think? Quite quick if it's done fresh from scratch).
Read moreOnly thing I dislike are the prices. The savory bowls are relatively expensive for that area, not extraordinarily expensive, but def not cheap. the smoothie bowls are super expensive imo. I mean, it's basically just a smoothie with a few toppings. You can get half a litre of fresh smoothies everywhere in CR for like 2000c. So I don't understand how these are around 10$. Would've loved to try one but naah definitely too expensive. Same for the drinks. The smoothies are like 5, 6$ and the other drinks are also really overpriced. The restaurant doesn't even have table service or paper menus lmao so I don't know where that price comes from.
Nevertheless a place I would probably regularly visit for the savory bowls if I lived here.
Pros: Interesting options , Amazing new flavors, Healthy food
Cons: Expensive

Amazing, fresh vegan food and kind staff! - Edit
I ate at this restaurant probably every day! They are NEW as of January 2022 so definitely still working out some processes so they do tend to take quite long with getting your food out, however it is worth the wait. Each bowl was so fresh and unique I wish I was able to get through the whole menu! The owner, Franny was so kind and he pours his sole into this foood and restaurant!
