Vantra Vegan - Edit
Excellent vegan chicken satay skewers and vegan dandan noodles. I can’t believe it took me ages to finally pop over here for a meal. I’ll definitely be back soon.

Great miso, fab noodles. Right next to Leicester Square! (In a basement - so the entrance isn’t the most obvious…..)

Good selection went a couple of times - Edit
The menue should have everything on the menue. Or there should be a different one available for the times not much going on.. Instead of always asking for it and never available.
Read moreQuite expensive especially I find for the drinks.
Pros: Big selection of food and different types of drink
Cons: Has options on the menue sometimes not available

Delicious - Edit
A good, interesting choice of small dishes (which you can have as starters, sides or tapas) and mains. We had starters and mains and all were very nice but the starters in particular were exceptionally nice. Such well balanced and interesting flavours. I had the Archar vegetable starter and it was one of my favourite dishes ever (in 30 years of eating vegan).
Read moreThe staff were lovely and friendly. Wish we'd have had room for dessert.
I couldn't find the menu online before we went so will attach.
Pros: High quality cooking, Interesting options, Friendly service

Cozy and tasty - Edit
We got there slightly late and it seemed quite busy.
Read moreThe stuff warned us that the food could be delayed because they ‘were short in staff’. However it did not seem like that and food came out at a decent time.
We ordered wine for three and enjoyed it very much.
I had one set with mushrooms and extra vegan lamb. Was nice but I think it was lots of mushrooms for me. But that is something to expect from a ‘mushroom plate’ I guess.
Staff was very kind all along, even if we were the last ones to leave the restaurant.
Pros: Variety, Healthy, Service

Easy & Healthy - Edit
Super nice restaurant next to China Town. Completely vegan but also attentive on health and environment 🙏🏻They have a big choice of dishes and desserts too ✨
Read moreReally appreciate the kindness of the staff! They were short for a Saturday night but everything went super good!
Only tiny advice: the main with mushrooms had a lot of variety of them so if you don’t use to eat mushrooms just choose something else because they might be too strong!

The original vegan - 22 years of experience - Edit
I’ve wanted to visit for a long time and finally made it. I wasn’t wowed by the look or feel of the place and can see why others may have walked before eating, but I knew not focus on the basement look, and to look at the menu where the real magic happens. Talking of which… we ordered the magical mushroom, a thai twist and a side of fish to try. Now we were wowed …
Read moreThai Twist - it’s described as a vegetable, sprout and seaweed noodles, with exotic fruit, tree nuts, flaxseeds, spices and tahini. Those ingredients do not convey what I tasted - it was a flavour explosion blowing my mind. I struggled to work out how everything tasted different but melded into a heavenly spicy but sweet, light but filling delight that made me want more. This has to be my favourite salad ever now. I’m sorry I can’t describe it better. It’s amazing.
Ordering the Magical Mushroom was a superb choice too. Talk about a hearty meal with a complex marriage of flavours and perfectly al dente garden vegetables. The mushrooms wouldn’t be up everyone’s street and the texture is slimy, but for me they couldn’t have been cooked any better. They retained their bite, flavour and the slimy sauce accentuated the taste bringing out every element a mushroom is savoured for. 10/10
Vegan Fish? Having been a big fish eater in the past this was mackerel. It looked like it. Tasted like it. The texture was perfect. It would fill anyone. Cooked in a teriyaki sauce it was simply devine. I’ll be having this in a dish when I return.
After opening in 1999, I can see why it’s still open over 22 years later. We’ll done Vegan Vantra.
Pros: Amazing menu, Sensational flavour combos, Healthy vegan food

Oil free whole foods - yay! - Edit
Love the concept of this place! As I am avoiding processed foods I know how hard it is to come across a place that serve whole foods throughly, but this place does dishes oil free - yay! I ordered the "Magical Mushroom" with brown rice which consisted of mushrooms in a yummy sauce made of sunflowers, turnip and seaweed and came with carrots and peas (so British - I love it!). Sadly they accidentally gave me red quinoa instead (which I can't digest) and when seeing this they only brought an additional place of rice and didn't re-do the dish, which meant I had to pick around for the mushrooms and sauce without getting one of the many little quinoa grains. The strain that bought to the meal in combination with not having desserts free form refined sugar makes them loose a star for me. Also sad that it was in a basement without windows, but convenient with the closeness to Piccadilly. In spite of their mess-up and poor making up for it, I will definitely be back and would 100% recommend the place! :)
Read moreP.S. Heard they used to have an oil free buffet before covid - deeply hope that returns!
Pros: Oil free, Very conscious about health, Close to Piccadilly
Cons: No sugar free desserts, Windowless , Messed up my order and didn't properly

Good - Edit
Good optional although the menu and options for the food are a bit confusing as there's just so much. The satay and seaweed starters were really good. The mains were okay but only 1 out of 5 were good imo the others were just meh

Interesting dinner - Edit
I went to Vantra with a group of non-vegan colleagues, we all had the "magic mushrooms" dish (we were too curious!). We were all satisfied, we enjoyed it, maybe the dressing was a little too much for my personal taste, but still very tasty. The staff was very king and the place is nice. We couldn't taste the desserts (we were very full!), but there is a good variety of them in the menu...next time!

New favourite vegan restaurant - Edit
I used to visit Vantra years ago when it was buffet style at a slightly different location on Wardour St but I have to say the food has got better.
Read moreWith the rise of ‘dirty vegan’ food, most places I go, vegan restaurants or even restaurants with vegan options are so unhealthy. Lots of fried food with heavily processed meat substitutes. Vantra vegan is food as medicine. I had the magical mushrooms and as I ate the dish, I could feel my body being healed. The food isn’t oily at all and you could really taste the lovely flavours of the food.
I’m not sure but I think Vantra Eden might be their buffet venue. Vantra vegan is more formal dining with table service. I haven’t been to Vantra Eden yet but if I compare my visit to Vantra years ago, I prefer this concept. It might be pricey but at least the flavours aren’t clashing. With buffet style set up, you tend to put a bit of everything on your plate and then all the flavours start to mesh / mash and it’s not as enjoyable.
Spend the few extra pounds and come here
Pros: Excellent table service and friendly staff, Food is served quickly , Food as medicine
Cons: A tad expensive but it’s quite a central location

Lots of options - Edit
The food here is mostly pan-asian in style but not exclusively. The drinks menu is probably bigger than the food menu! Food was good but I picked an option that was a bit too plain for me. The kimchi salad starter was better than the main. Think I'll go for the tapas next time.

Home cooking, not refined. Satay for starter was tasty. The main dishes were too greasy. The non alcoholic cocktail with fresh passionfruit was really nice.

Boring food in a dingy basement - Edit
Another of the far too many vegan restaurants that need to raise their game by miles if they want to appeal to omnivores (who still are, in case anyone has forgotten, the vast majority of diners). You wouldn't want to take non-vegans to this place because it would just confirm their view that vegan restaurants serve boring food, make no effort at decor and lack atmosphere.
Read moreVantra Vegan is located in a basement devoid of natural light and accessed down stairs from the street where rubbish bags are piled at the top. Not inviting! The restaurant has no decoration except for bottles of booze positioned around the bar, which is made of metal scaffolding pipes - hardly an aesthetic choice.
A sign on the bar advertises all the ingredients the restaurant doesn't use, which include garlic and vinegar. This is apparently done for health reasons (I thought garlic was a superfood?) but, to judge by my curry, it results in bland food.
The portions are quite generous but that hardly compensates for the lack of flavour. Avoid the soya chicken offered as an option for an extra charge - it tastes of nothing and has an unpleasant mushy texture (and there was little of it, which turned out to be a good thing).
Most desserts on the menu were not available (I mean, seriously) even though it was early evening, and the coffee machine, which a review from several months ago mentioned was broken, was still (or again) not operational. The raw chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream was good and went some way towards redeeming the situation.
Another plus is that the staff are friendly and helpful.
Overall, though, not an experience to be repeated. Vegan restaurants do not have to be uninviting, hole-in-the-wall places, and vegan food can be so much better than this.
