Utopia has a lot of great flavors, many of which are vegan. I’m a big fan of the chocolate sea salt and black sesame. You can also order vegan waffles with your ice cream and add toppings. The outdoor patio is really nice, and you can eat your ice cream underneath grapevine!

After lunch in Lyttleton I just came here on my way back to Christchurch to have a dessert - and it was definitely worth the extra mile. Helpful and friendly staff that gave great recommendations and adjusted them after I said that I’m vegan. The menu has a lot of clearly marked vegan options: ice flavors, toppings and waffles. The little garden in front of the cafe is nice to sit and enjoy the ice creams as well. Perfect stopover!

So thrilled for find actual vegan ice cream rather than a sobert. The wide range of favors was awesome, great creamy texture and beyond happy with it. Feel in love with a salted caramel toffee popcorn, over chocolate, very surprised and shocked, but so good!

Situated a few streets back from the sea, Utopia Ice is a must for Christchurch ice cream lovers visiting the seaside suburb of Sumner. This ice cream shop with a juice bar is in the heart of Sumner, just opposite the library and community centre. They use local and seasonal produce to make their handmade and unique flavour combinations which change regularly. One-half the cabinet is vegan with around 4 sorbets and 4 coconut-based vegan ice creams. Examples include lavender and apricot sorbet and coconut, strawberry, and lemongrass ice cream. An exciting option is to have whipped coconut cream piped on the top of your ice cream for just $1 more plus another $1 for a generous sprinkling of roasted and chopped hazelnuts. This is the only ice cream shop in New Zealand that I am aware of that offers vegan whipped cream. (And I have been to most of them). The cones are vegan and they can also make vegan waffles with ice cream. Hot chocolate and chai can be made with plant milk (soy, almond, coconut) will warm you up on a cold day.
