Good

Okay options for vegans! I got a pizza with bbq sauce and no cheese; each additional veggie topping is $1. This was definitely the cheaper of the available options and size was generous. Side of red beans and rice was delish, beans were seasoned well with a hint of sweet tang.

FYI the pretender burger has a vegan patty and you can remove the goat cheese and mayo, but comes with a brioche bun (making it potentially not vegan). I can confirm the patty is delicious though.

Pros: Portion sizes

Rockin' pizza!

Plenty of options to create your own pizza. No V cheeze thou. The Housemade patty sounds very tasty, omitting the goat cheese and mayo of course.
The Staff were fantastic and very helpful! Thank You

Good for everyone

I tried Union Woodshop for the first time on the way to a concert at DTE Energy Music Theatre. Driving to the concert venue was a breeze from here and only took about 5-10 minutes and with no traffic jams like there are when approaching from the other direction. There was a 40 minute wait to be seated so we placed a to go order which was ready EXACTLY when they estimated it would be ready and the order was correct. They were very generous with the containers of BBQ sauce, which are complimentary upon request. This place is great for meat eaters, vegetarians, and vegans. I ordered The Pretender burger without cheese or mayo and with vegetarian dirty rice substituted for fries. I tried the Memphis, Lockhart, and Koreatown BBQ sauces. They describe Lockhart as “very spicy” but anyone who has lived in TX (like myself) will likely not find it spicy at all. It’s good though! Koreatown reminded me of sweet & sour sauce but you could tell it had a lot of fresh ingredients in it. I used my leftovers as a salad dressing the next day, but it would be really good with spring rolls or egg rolls. I used the Memphis sauce on both my burger and the rice. I am a longtime vegan, but due to time limitations and other factors, I did not ask to verify that the rice and the burger bun were fully vegan so if you don’t want any chance of consuming anything non-vegan, you’ll want to ask about that (and report back). My dining partner ordered the Coco house salad, which is heartier than the typical side salad since it has chickpeas and it appears to be vegan if ordered without the feta cheese or the dressing which appeared to be dairy or egg based (though it’s possible it’s not, but it looked that way to me). Some people find the parking situation to be difficult, but to me it depends what you’re used to. It’s much easier than most major cities, but it’s in a “hip” area that can get a little busy. There’s some free parallel parking, and a paid lot ($1/hr) across the street.

Pros: friendly staff, pretty decor/color scheme, clean bathroom

Cons: limited amount of free parking spaces
