I remember when the owner first introduced vegan pizzas, he told me he’d asked many vegans and pizza chefs about how to do it right. As a result, he told me they even make sure to use sugar that isn’t processed with bone char. I was obviously pretty impressed with how thorough he’d been. The pizza here is very good, especially now that they use local Halo Food cheese that melts and browns very nicely.
I like their vegan pizza. It’s got that nice, neighborhood-pizza-spot type taste for when you’re in that mood! It has medium-thin crust. The vegan options are limited, but the fact that they have a vegan sauce and cheese option that’s clearly labeled in the online menu is nice.
They were thoughtful enough to give us a call before making our pickup order when we accidentally added a non-vegan topping (eggplant—it must have been breaded in egg or dairy) on our otherwise vegan order because they (correctly) thought we might have made a mistake.
I also like that their online ordering system allows you to easily specify an extra, light, or normal amount for each topping you add.
Pleasantly surprised to find a vegan pizza here, with a local vegan cheese. Crust and sauce are good, and they were generous with the vegetable toppings I added. Weirdly, they have a separate vegan sauce, so apparently the regular one contains animal products. It made me a little nervous that they'd put the wrong one on and I wouldn't know. Make sure you're ordering the vegan pizza, or both vegan cheese and vegan sauce if you're customizing a different menu item.
Uncle Ricos is awesome. They are the only mom and pop take-out pizza place in Schenectady County that has vegan cheese (as far as I'm aware). We will travel across town to get pizza from Uncle Ricos. Peppinos in Duanesburg used to have vegan cheese, but they have new ownership. All in all, I'm super appreciative of Uncle Ricos!
My parents and I came here for lunch on our first day house hunting in the area and we enjoyed it. We told the guy at the counter that we were vegan and asked for vegan pizza and he specified that they have a separate vegan sauce. We then asked what toppings they had and he started rattling off meats...we found that odd and it made my mother a bit nervous that the pizza wouldn’t be vegan, but it seemed to be when we got it. We ended up with a pizza with vegan cheese, red bell peppers, and onions and we all enjoyed it immensely. They did warn us about cross contamination possibilities, which I appreciate. Unfortunately, upon first glance, Albany is lacking in fully vegan restaurants so we have to take what we can get and hope that expands the options offered everywhere!
The berben and wolff's vegan cheese is one of the best vegan cheeses in my opinion, and they offer it for their pizza. They specify the dough and sauce can be vegan. If they offered a plant based meat (b&w's pepperoni maybe?) that would be awesome!
