I have always been a huge fan of Indian food as my dad is from New Delhi, and WOW. The food here was beyond words. Lots of clearly labeled vegan options to choose from and absolutely excellent service. Good prices, too. Highly recommend their dosis!

The staff was very friendly and accommodating of us being vegan. The food was so flavorful with very good size portions. The menu was large and has lots of options to pick from. The vegan options were clearly marked on the menu.

Awesome place for south Indian food. - Edit
Don't be deceived by the looks, their food is amazing. Rava Dosa was my absolute favorite, it was just like back in Hyderabad. I love the rasam too. My husband got the uttapam, and it was amazing. Must haves in this restaurant are uttapam and Rava Dosa. Thank you so much.

Delicious and authentic - Edit
We love coming here for authentic Indian cuisine. My favorite is the dosa which is served with potatoes and peas, along with a soup. My husband likes getting the Chana masala and aloo gobi.

Best Indian food in Pittsburgh! - Edit
Amazing options, very vegan friendly. Been going here for years with my family. There are some dairy items on the menu, but just make it clear that you are vegan and it’ll be fine. Highly recommend the gobi manchurian dry, the chana palak and the masala dosa!
Read morePros: Lots of vegan options (all vegetarian), Authentic cuisine, Plenty of seating
Cons: Not the prettiest building/interior, Language barrier (just talk to someone up front), Can get crowded and only BYOB

Not welcoming to vegans - Edit
I went with some friends and figured that since it was a vegetarian restaurant, they would be used to modifying things or at least know which dishes are vegan-friendly. I ordered one of the thali plates and asked whether it could be made without milk, raita, ghee, or any other dairy, and our waiter said it could. We also ordered an appetizer sampler plate to share.
Read moreThat was the last I saw of that waiter. Our servers for the rest of the evening were totally unhelpful, and didn't seem to speak much English. They seemed uncertain about dairy in the samplers. My dish came out with a rice pudding that looked like it contained milk. One of the servers confirmed, and when I complained that I asked for no dairy, he told me to "just try a little bit."
The quality at All India in Oakland is worse, but at least I know what I can eat there.
Pros: Large portions
Cons: Hard to get attention from staff, Unhelpful staff, Not vegan-friendly

Don't Read This! - Edit
Wherever you are just drive there now… You won't regret it! Unless maybe you're looking to impress a date with a romantic setting.....that it is not the point of this restaurant. If your looking for unreal Indian food - this is the place. The entire restaurant is vegetarian. There is some cheese and cream but it is fairly well marked on the menu. If you're unfamiliar with Indian food - the manager - Victor - is well versed in vegan needs and will show you your options. For bread be warned that the batura has milk ingredients but the poori does not. I recommend the channa masala and the dosai but everything is good!
Read morePros: authentic Indian -manager that gets vegans, reasonable pricing, lots of options
Cons: atmosphere, some waiters are great....others not so much.

Really Great! - Edit
This is a wonderful place. Happened upon it by chance when driving on the way to the temple at the top of the hill. Very unassuming appearance, but the food is phenomenal. We definitely recommend starting with a mango shake or lassi, and the chili pakora. Both are amazing. So are the main courses - favorites being the chole batura or the poori subji. Nice dosas too, and the thali is overwhelming in size. But everything is good, delicious, nice quality, good price, authentic flavor. Though the outside doesn't look like much, the food is wonderful. And the food comes out so fast. We have made the 80 minute trip to Pittsburg JUST to come to the restaurant. Well worth the trip, every time.

south indian awesomness - Edit
If you like south indian food this place is not to be missed. Its definitely worth finding in its unsuspecting location (down a small road next to something like a cement pouring machine), and don't let the extremely bare look of the inside fool you--the food is absolutely amazing.
Read moreThe dosas are always the perfect texture and large enough to be a meal no problem. They have other great options too, but since they have such a great variety of dosas I only occasionally venture to other foods. I've been coming here since they opened years and years ago. Many vegan options. The sauces are all delicious and taste fresh.
(don't come here expecting a fine dining atmosphere! For that you can go to one of the many other indian restaurants in Pittsburgh, none of which rival the quality of udipi's veg options. Come here for the food!)
Pros: yummy dosas :), friendly staff, inexpensive
