Edible

Nice to have a vegan option in a mainstream area so I appreciate the option. Probably wouldn’t dine here again unless I’m very hungry and in the area or with a bunch of meat eaters who want to go here.

Tofu scramble tastes like soup and is in a puddle of water.

Pros: location

Cons: taste of food

Good food, a little expensive

Good food, but a little expensive. Not bad considering the location and ambiance.

Good coffee!

I was only here for a coffee so can't comment on the food but the coffee was good and staff were friendly. I would go back again.

Lots of vegan options

Plenty of vegan options and menu is clearly marked (v meaning vegan, not vegetarian). Reasonably priced. Very friendly staff. Had oat milk which is always a good thing.

Pros: Lots of options , Friendly staff, Located in a cool bookshop

Cons: Pay extra for non-diary milks

Great spot

Highly recommend this place. Food is good and it’s fun to check out the books. I always bring my out of town friends when they visit, and it’s always a hit.

The only saving grace was that they offered Vegan options. That’s it.

Don’t bother unless you absolutely have no other option. I was initially excited with the Vegan options on the menu but once the food arrived I was less than impressed. I really try to find the good in any situation but there really was none here. 1. Vegan Cashew Chili was just some tomato water with a few whole cashews, two kidney beans and a bunch of large chunks of celery and onion. 2. $17 Impossible burger was cooked well done and tasted like a piece of shoe leather. 3. Fries came out ice cold. Sent them back and was given a basket of fry “pieces” that were loaded with salt after I was finished my meal. Didn’t eat them and was still charged. It is my opinion that the chef has never been formally trained. Complete waste of $50

Pros: Vegan options, Nice atmosphere

Cons: Remedial cook, Sub par food, Over priced

Alright

I’ve gone to trident quite a few times because my friends really like it, but haven’t been impressed by anything I’ve tried yet. I really like the atmosphere and you can make the menu work

dirty bathroom

I haven't eaten here because the bathroom in the bookstore is disgusting; I complained to the cafe staff, who said, fairly, that they're not responsible--the bookstore cleans the bathroom. But if that is the condition of the bathroom, I don't know how clean the kitchen is--it may be super clean, or not, I wouldn't know.

Okay

I found this place to be just okay for vegan options. Plenty more vegetarian options. I wasn't going for breakfast, but there were maybe five or six vegan options for lunch/dinner. They have vegan chili, two vegan-friendly burgers, and two vegan Trident bowls that looked pretty good. I might have made the wrong choice by going with the portobello burger, but I found it pretty forgettable. This was, however, the best cup of tea I had during my week in the city, for what it's worth. I wouldn't consider this a "must-go" restaurant, but it'll definitely do if you want to eat somewhere with omni friends.

Fun cafe with vegan options

I had breakfast here on a Sunday morning. It was very busy, but there never seemed to be a wait, there’s tons of seating, including seating upstairs. There’s also a small amount of outdoor seating. We chose to eat at the bar space.

I had the tofu scramble, which is of course a pretty standard vegan option, but it was really good version of it.

Pros: Tons of seating, Books!

Pleasant and cozy

I went here with my non-veg dad and we were both pleased. I got the trident bowl (highly recommend!) and he got himself a burger. The waiter was cool and knew what on the menu was vegan and what could be made vegan. The atmosphere was cozy and cool, would be a perfect spot to study and eat but also a nice place for a low-key date.

Pros: veg-friendly, good music

Nice option downtown

There are few vegan options in downtown Boston, so Trident is a nice place to stop and grab a bite when you are in the area.

The scrambled tofu is very tasty, yet a bit oily.

Excellent coffee with soy milk.

Pros: lots of seatings, friendly staff, nice vibe

Great for dates, chai, breakfast all day

Trident Booksellers and Cafe is an excellent venue for very small groups or for dates. Lots of small table seating for 2-4.

* Breakfast all day, includes tofu scramble (excellent), Mega Tater Tots (contains cheese, overpriced, but great for occasional indulgences), and plenty of traditional options.

* Wide variety of tea, chai, coffee, with a variety of milk and non-milk options.

* Veg-friendly wraps, including falafel.

Trident has quickly become a go-to place when I want a friendly environment for a casual meal or hot beverage in the Back Bay. I recommend trying it out next time you're on Newbury Street.

Pros: atmosphere, location, flexibility

Cons: crowded
