Vegan lunch

Lots of vegetarian options and a few vegan too. I had a Blueberry Matcha and a vegan BLT on rye breAd. Happy to find a place that had options besides veggie burgers for lunch.

Great vegetarian options

Cute shop with a lot of vegetarian options, even a Vegan BLT. Enjoyed the avocado toast and the VBLT.

Staff says "we don't have vegan cheese slices", puts dairy cheese on a vegan sandwich instead

My recent experience at Trenary Toast was the one of the more bizarre encounters I've had at a restaurant in the 10 years I've been vegan.

At first this looks like a great place to eat in Marquette. The menu labels vegetarian items (with a leaf symbol), and describes another symbol (cow) as "vegetarian or vegan possible". This is *not* the case. Most of the items highlighted with a cow are not even potentially vegan. If you want to eat vegan here, you will need to ask about everything in your particular sandwich, including the bread options.

Unfortunately the staff isn't likely to be helpful. We ordered two sandwiches and specifically requested "the vegan option". They gave both of us sandwiches with dairy cheese on them. When we asked what had happened, they said that Trenary Toast "does not have vegan cheese slices", and the option shown on the menu is to make the sandwiches *vegetarian* instead. In this case that meant that our "vegan" sandwiches had multiple meats substituted with a single alternative (vegan bacon), and the dairy cheese left on it.

The menu isn't even consistent on this point. If (as stated by the staff) the cow symbol meant that the sandwich was "vegetarian *OR* vegan possible" (but not necessarily both), then every vegetarian sandwich on the menu should have had the cow logo. But this is not the case - the grilled cheese is vegetarian but has no cow, for example. That certainly makes the menu more confusing for a hapless vegan who happens to wander in. Apparently they have both non-vegan (vegetarian) bacon as well as vegan bacon, so that's another issue to watch out for.

I wouldn't bother with this place.

Great!

Great drinks. The cinnamon, smore chai was amazing. We also loved the cinnamon bread from the rack in back.
