A trip highlight!

Mexico City is known for its food and as a vegan, I was pleasantly surprised to find out I wouldn’t have to miss out on any of it. This tour is no ordinary tour. There are lots of vegan restaurants in MC but the ones you visit on this tour are not ones that you’ll easily find. They are small, locally owned businesses in mostly working class neighborhoods. I love what this tour company stands for and I especially loved seeing party’s of the city that I might’ve missed otherwise.

We started the tour at Hilton Reforma. It’s a great spot to meet because it’s easy to find and you can use the restroom and there’s a bar or nice seating while you wait.

Mena was warm, friendly and very accommodating. She made sure each person in our group was having a good time. She explained exactly what we’d be doing and how we’d get to each location.

First stop was an authentic street taco place in the historical district . The business had been around for over 30 years. Mena explained that a lot of the workers in the city relit on places like this because they live outside the city, have a 2+ hour commute and no time to cook. Getting good food at a good price is necessary. We each had a couple of delicious tacos before we took a stroll to our next stop. My favorite was the squash flower taco. The salsas were ridiculously good.

Second stop was a vegan restaurant, vegguero, that supports animal sanctuaries and is in a nice, working class neighborhood. We tried three different types of vegan tacos and they blew my mind. The pastor was my favorite.

Next stop was a just a couple blocks over and we tried agua frescos. I had the citrus which was a mix of four fruits. It was refreshing and something nice to sip on as we took a longer walk over to a handmade ice cream stand. There were vegan and vegetarian options and all the ice creams were handmade.

We took a short bus ride to another part of town where we had vegan seafood at Paxil. It was hard to believe this food was all vegan but it was. I also couldn’t believe I had any more room for more food after this. They are not joking when they say, “ come hungry”

Next stop was a torta stand called Gatorta. They are big into animal rights and that’s something I can get behind. Food was very good here and I had just enough room for the last stop…

La Catrina churreria in the pink district. This area has a super fun vibe and the churros were just the perfect amount of sweet I was craving.

I highly recommend this tour!

Pros: Amazing guide, Unique locations, Variety

Amazing Vegan & Vegetarian Street food

Amazing afternoon/ evening of walking through different areas of Mexico City and getting to try so many different types of foods from a range of vendors. Mena (the guide) was very knowledgeable and made sure i was completely catered, being a vegan. Everything was delicious and i cant wait to re-visit some of the businesses we visited for the rest of the time I’m here.

Pros: Variety of vendors , 2 types of Pan de muerto

Stop reading this review and book onto their Vegan street food tour

My first day of a 3 week trip and what a way to start with the Vegan street food tour.
The food was absolutely amazing and I would highly recommend this to anyone new in Mexico and especially if you are vegan (or vegetarian) or just a foodie. The places we went are where true locals were eating at.
Mena, as the host, truly went above and beyond to accommodate everyone in the group and stay true to her principles of supporting local people.
Make sure you go on an empty stomach because you will be eating lots of delicious food.
Stop reading this review and book it.

A trip highlight

My wife & I booked two different tours with this company and they were fantastic - both the street food tour and the wrestling tour were highlights of our time in Mexico City. As two Australian vegans who speak nearly no Spanish at all, having a guide made a world of difference.

Sharon was our guide for both days, and she instantly made us comfortable. It was like having a friend show us around the city! Especially because we had the two different days together and we went at a quiet time of year so it was just us in the group.

The food tour was 100% worth doing on an empty stomach and as early as you can in your time in the city just in case you want to go back anywhere. The wrestling is a fantastic cultural experience and although you can do it without a guide, it felt a lot safer doing it with the tour as the area is not the safest spot.

We would whole heartedly recommend this company to any travelling vegetarians or vegans and haven't stopped raving about the experience to our friends and family!

Wonderful

Our food tour with Mena was a highlight of our time in Mexico City. She was super energetic and enthusiastic about sharing her knowledge of local food culture and vendors. We ate far too much incredible food at some out of the way places we would never had ventured or found on our own. When she says show up hungry she really means it! I would definitely recommend to anyone interested in the history of meso-American food (which was plant-based) or just interested in eating great street food in the city, whether you’re vegan, vegetarian or not!

Hello Loav,
We apologize for our lack of communication. As a business that runs food tours, we were unsure about the pandemic and we could have handled our interaction with you much better.
We apologize again and we hope you give us another chance in the future.

Worth it

If you have already spent some time in Mexico City, some of the stops maybe be a little duplicative of what you have already found, but I think it's still worth it. We met David and a host-in-training who both had a great vibe and were quite knowledgeable. The mood of the small tour group at the end of the day was great...it seemed like everyone felt that they got something out of it. Also, it didn't feel conspicuous or corny as i was worried it might.

Only downside was that the communication beforehand was a little spotty and disorganized ao I had planned my week around this tour, but didn't feel super confident that it was actually going to happen. I initially went to the wrong part of the park where the tour was meeting and they left without me, but David doubled back to get me when I contacted him on whatsapp. A little more help identifying the correct location and who to look for in advance would be great.

Pros: Friendly, easygoing local tour guide, Impromptu stops at vendors you cannot google

Cons: Disorganized communication
