Decent food - Edit
The Isle of Skye isn’t quite as easy for vegans as the rest of Scotland. It’s great that the Tongadale Hotel offers vegan options, which this season include a bean chili, a veggie burger, Quorn nuggets, and a daily soup, which can be ordered as an entree. The food was solid, but they’re understaffed and the restaurant itself is a bit dated. They also messed up our reservation (but comped our sides to make up for it).

No Atmosphere, boring food - Edit
There is no atmosphere, not like in so much other Pubs/Restaurants etc. Very cold and unfeeling.
Read moreThe food was also prepared with little love.
Vegan options: soup of the day, one main, one dessert
After the main, we didn’t want to try the dessert.
We didn't want to stay any longer.
Staff was friendly

Hidden restaurant with easy, classic pub options - Edit
Staff was friendly and clearly understood what vegan means (e.g. brought dairy free butter for bread without being asked). Nice range of clearly marked vegan choices, such as burgers or chick'n nuggets.

Ok - Edit
Not many vegan options but a decent number for Portree- one starter, two mains, two deserts. The starter and main were ok but the desert was excellent. Staff were friendly but the restaurant has no atmosphere and does feel like the hotel breakfast room it sort of is.

Decent Vegan Haggis - Edit
Tasty vegan haggis available in the centre of Portree. Also had a vegan chocolate orange slice with vegan ice cream for dessert.

Lovely food very accommodating - Edit
Recommend the veggie haggis and the vegan puds are fab- there was an apple and plum tart and a choc orange tart. Stunning tomato soup with lovely bread. Unbelievably friendly staff!

Decent Vegan Options in Portnee - Edit
Portnee at night during the high season months is a bit like the Walking Dead as tourists aimlessly wander in search of open tables—it’s a seller’s market. I was turned down from two other restaurants before opting for the Tongadale. Menu includes your standard pub fare—burgers, soups, fries, etc. I had the vegetable soup, which needed ample salt. The Vegan Pulled Pork burger came instead as two vegan patties that were “meh” but my expectations had reached Skye high levels after seeing “Vegan Pulled Pork” on the menu. After a lackluster soup and entreé I attempted to leave without dessert and the waitress was visibly upset after excitedly telling me about the vegan desserts. I caved and was pleasantly surprised by a delightful vegan lemon cheesecake with a side of ice cream.

Very impressed - Edit
Casual atmosphere and very friendly staff who are well versed on vegan options. They didn't have the pulled 'pork' sandwich, but brought a veggie burger instead. Included 2 patties. They even had vegan lemon cheesecake and a jam pudding (cake) roll with vegan icecream!

Good vegan option in Skye - Edit
The hotel restaurant serves a pulled pork burger that staff conformed as Linda McCartney brand and also offers vegan Quorn nuggets. This is a great vegan find in Skye. Items are marked as vegan on the menu. I ordered the burger, which came with relish on the side, chips, and a nice salad - not the sad limp kind you sometimes get. It was a decent portion and the burger was tasty. The non-vegan burger comes with coleslaw, which has been left off of the vegan burger so staff clearly know what vegan means. There are also vegetarian and gluten free options if that's your thing.
