Not Bad, Not Great - Edit
We drove from Baltimore to go there just for the vegan sushi. I'm glad we went, but I wouldn't go back. Vegan sushi was just ok; not really memorable.

Creative rolls & yummy ramen! Contrary to a previous review, the staff were nothing but friendly - our waiter was just such a sweet guy! A beautiful atmosphere too. My omni friend totally approved😄

I always appreciate when a restaurant has a special vegan menu, like Toni. I would really like to go back here and try out their other vegan options. I tried some vegan sushi and a shiitake inari it was all delicious and beautifully presented.

Great vegan sushi and ramen - Edit
First time to Tomo and will definitely be back. Very flavorful and several vegan options of both sushi and ramen. We ordered the veggie buns for appetizer, which comes with a tofu mushroom patty and a delicious sauce, the vegan harvest roll (my favorite dish), the vegan red dragon (my wife's favorite dish) and the Vegan Yasai Ramen which was super flavorful and very hearty. Total bill including tip for the two of us was a bit over $60. Totally great value for the quality. Service was top notch and the place was really warm and inviting. Great experience!!

Innovative Vegan Sushi - Edit
On my first night in Philly, I stumbled upon Tomo Sushi & Ramen, and it turned out to be a delightful surprise. What caught my attention immediately was their offering of vegan rolls and bites, which is quite a rarity. Despite the miso soup not being vegan, the menu had plenty of other options to choose from.
Read moreThe simplicity of the decor in the restaurant created a comfortable atmosphere, and the friendly server played a helpful role in guiding my selections. After contemplating heavy rolls with cream cheese and vegan mayo, I decided to go for something lighter, taking my server's advice.
I opted for the Tomo Roll ($16), a spicy delight with vegan tuna (tomato), cilantro, and seared vegan tuna (tomato) on top. Unexpectedly spicy, it turned out to be even better than anticipated, despite my initial hesitation.
My next choice, the Lime Sinko ($11) without avocado, featured a unique combination of bitter, acidic, and tasty flavors, heightened by Japanese pickled ashinko and lime.
To diversify my meal, I tried the Shiitake Inari ($4), a sushi taco of sorts with shiitake mushrooms on top of rice wrapped in a fried tofu pouch. Its slightly sweet aftertaste added an unexpected twist.
Finally, the Passion Fruit Mochi ($3) provided a sweet yet balanced ending, perfectly capturing the essence of passion fruit without overwhelming the palate.
Every bite seemed impeccably fresh, reflecting the restaurant's commitment to quality ingredients. Overall, Tomo Sushi & Ramen proved to be a palate-pleasing experience, and each dish left me with a newfound appreciation for inventive vegan cuisine.

Rolls Only - Edit
If you like veg sushi, this place offers quite a bit beyond the average avocado or cucumber roll. We shared the Vegan Green Dragon and Guacarollie (server's recommendation), which were both good. The vegan ramen was acutely salty but with a desirable umami vibe; it contained a shaved seitan (incredible!). If I returned, I'd search out other items featuring the seitan. The vegan poke was disappointing; as another reviewer mentions, the vegan "tuna" is made from tomato and the texture was severely funky for us. We would avoid any Tomo item containing that in the future.
Read moreThe restaurant is quite small and not quite comfortable in ambience. If we returned, it would be for takeout--rolls only.
Pros: vegan rolls, seitan
Cons: vegan tuna

Speciality vegan sushi rolls & incredibly flavorful ramen - Edit
Would highly recommend! They had a whole designated section on their menu for vegan sushi (so much more than just avocado rolls)! We ordered the Vegan Tuna Tomo and Vegan Chao rolls which were both great. We also ordered the Vegan Yasai Ramen and that was AMAZING! The broth was so flavorful and had tons of toppings.

Worth the price - Edit
Multiple marked vegan rolls on the menu that are more than the basics one might expect at an average sushi place. Really enjoyed the ‘tuna’, Philly ‘cheesesteak’ and the vegan mochi.

My husband and I shared the cheesesteak roll and the spicy tuna. Both were good, but the spicy tuna was our favorite. Staff is very nice. Place is small so make a reservation if you plan on going during busy hours.

Imaginative and Delicious - Edit
They have several vegan alternative sushi rolls. Their mock tuna is made with tomato which meant for me that I had a texture issue (sushi isn’t very sensory friendly to begin with so I’m not blaming them😅) .

Beware of cross contamination - Edit
I generally agree with most reviewers and have had good experiences with Tomo, appreciating how much effort they put into serving interesting vegan rolls. However, my most recent delivery order from them - which included a couple vegan rolls (avocado and umeshiso kappa) and inari, for each of which I marked “shellfish allergy” - came covered in flying fish roe and even a few slices of crab stick. Upsetting and unacceptable, so be careful to check your rolls and perhaps prepared to ask to remake or refund.

Really yummy and creative vegan sushi rolls - Edit
I love a good vegetable roll now and again, but I absolutely loved that this place offered really unique and complex vegan sushi rolls. There is a separate section on the menu which lists 18 different vegan options! And it was all very tasty.

Fresh sushi with many vegan options! - Edit
I stopped by Tomo while running around Philadelphia on a long layover. What a great surprise! I ordered extra because I knew my international flight wouldn’t have much to offer and I was so happy I did. Not just so I could be fed but because it was SO good! I ordered two avocado rolls and two Harvest rolls. The avocado rolls were of course pretty standard but still very fresh. The Harvest roll was such a treat! I never have had sweet potatoes on sushi but it totally works. If you are local or visiting, definitely had Tomo to your list of stops. There were a lot of fun vegan rolls available that I would have liked to try!

best vegan sushi I’ve ever had - Edit
Can’t rate this 5 stars since it serves meat but honestly this was the best vegan sushi. So many options! I asked for their recommendation and ended up with a green dragon and harvest rolls. Lovely!
Read moreHeads up the miso isn’t vegan but they are very knowledgeable about all their ingredients and happy to advise. We went at 3pm on a Saturday and every table was full and reservations were required. The place is very small, (around 6 2- person tables and 2-3 4- person tables) so make sure to make a reservation!
Pros: Lots of vegan options, Beautiful presentation

Best ramen I've ever had. - Edit
Everything about the Vegan Yasai Ramen that I had when I was here was amazing. Noodles had great flavor, vegan broth was great and the teriyaki and mushrooms were legit quality mushrooms. Worth noting I got it To-go as I didn't bring close for the more upscale environment on my trip and everything was thoughtfully packaged with broth and noods separate.
