I liked the vegan burrito with vegan cheese. But for sure not worth $18.

Cons: Expensive

Great choice for vegans!

Love this place - we suggested years ago that they try offering v cheese- was shocked when they did- and now TOFU too! Plus mushroom filling for tacos, burritos, etc. try the Mexican sandwich with extra hot salsa-YUM.

Pros: vegan cheese, tofu, mushrooms, grilled corn

Cons: Can be lots of loud college kids and/or sports

Great for the price

Tio's has a great staff and food. The food is fairly cheap. If you ask there is a cheezy bean dip that is very yummy. They have lots of vegan choices and will accommodate what you need. The beer selection is good. I wasn't that excited about my margarita, but then I like real margaritas and not mixes. Highly recommend. Great for groups, near public transportation, Koger Arts Center, State House and all downtown sites. It has FREE PARKING on site or across the street at the bank at night.

Pros: Many choices, Quick food, Good for price

Cons: Can be a little loud

Bad Food

The food was very bland and dry. This is by far, one of the worst Mexican restaurants in the area. The servers lacked knowledge about their Vegan options. Their salsa comes from a Cann. You’ll be highly disappointed with their so call vegan options.

Awful

AWFUL! We went for lunch & ordered wet burrito after reading the rave reviews on here....this was the WORST, BLANDEST, OVERPRICED burrito ever. The reviewers who thought this was good must have been so drunk... literally the most bland/ no flavor mexican food I have ever had, there was not one leaf of cilantro or a cumin seed in sight. Tasted microwaved at best. The mexican equivalent of chef boyardee, overpriced with pathetic portions and honestly have had better mexican food at Chipotle... taco bell would be a step up from this. Do not waste your money here!!!! No flavor. Crappy portions. Horrible and overpriced to boot.

Vegan Options!

My food was pretty good, but they accidentally gave my mom chicken and she bit into it. I think it was an honest mistake, but it was a bad situation for my mom. They were very apologetic.

Other than that, the food was good (especially the guac) and it was nice to have vegan options!

Pros: vegan options

Cons: accidentally put meat in my mom's food

Great place

Traveling through the state and found Tios thanks to Happy Cow reviews. It's in a cool location and gave us an excuse to drive to the downtown area. Tried the deluxe veggie wet burrito with vegan cheese on the advise of a previous reviewer. It was great. The server told me that they could work with us and prepare most menu item vegan if we wanted.

Love Tios!

I have been to Tio's numerous times and have tried the avocado taco (it was ok) but always get the Wet Burrito with vegan cheese. It is phenomenal! I try to keep leftovers but generally I eat too much and roll out of the restaurant in a stupor an hour later. They also have remarkably delicious sangria. I found this out by accident but I am obsessed. Wet burrito with sangria....get it!

A vegan-friendly spot at USC

Several years ago Tio's added a "vegan cheese" option to their menu which makes Tio's (as far as I can see) the most vegan-friendly restaurant on the University of South Carolina campus.

I've eaten at Tio's number of times. I eat there often when I am on campus and leaving for lunch is not an option. I usually order the (rather hefty) "Veggie DELUXE Wet Burrito with vegan cheese." The burrito is stuffed with rice, vegetarian refried beans, bell pepper, onion, tomato, cucumber, and fresh avocado (which is sometimes inside the burrito, and sometimes on top). The burrito is topped with a red tomato sauce, and there's usually some sort of iceberg chopped lettuce on the plate. With the burrito, you can also choose a salsa to go with it - from mild to extra hot. I think the extra hot salsa is quite good.

Although Tio's is not a vegan restaurant by any means, it is a vegan-friendly spot on a rather vegan-unfriendly campus. Feel free to check it out!

Pros: Vegan-friendly, Polite and speedy staff, Free parking

Cons: Meat-heavy menu, Sometimes busy at lunch time
