Nice little Nepalese place - Edit
The Yak & Yeti is a nice little Nepalese place in the centre of York. The menu has a number of clearly labelled vegan options. Vegan starters include momos, aloo dum, spring rolls and pakoras. There are also three vegetable curries available, all of which are vegan.
Read moreA good choice for those unfamiliar with Nepalese cuisine is the daal bhat tarkari which is a bit like an Indian thali in that it allows you to sample a range of dishes - but be careful to order it with the yellow daal rather than the black daal as the latter contains ghee. I for one very much enjoyed it! I'd also recommend the chilli momos.
You can wash it all down with a Gurkha Beer which is brewed to cut the sharpest thirst (or so it says on the bottle).
Pros: Clearly labelled vegan options, Tasty dishes, Friendly staff

Fantastic - Edit
Decent amount of vegan options and everything we had was class. Faves are chilli momo and the main greens. Very impressed! If we’re ever in York again, we’ll definitely be back!!

Great meal - Edit
Went here with my son and had an excellent meal. I went for the vegan version of the set meal as this was my first Nepalese meal and I wasn’t sure what to order. There was a good mix of dishes and I’d certainly go back!

Taste as good as it looks - Edit
Any vegan will agree that it’s always a luck of the draw when getting a curry. We want all the flavours without animal products. This restaurant really delivered, was able to the signature dish and it was delicious. Staff very attentive, owner x military which is apparent when you see how slick the service is.

Salty - Edit
I hate giving this place 3 stars. Friendly and charming restaurant with vegan options. The food could have been exquisite but was loaded with salt which regrettably marred the taste. If you're not a salt addict then i'd ask them to go easy on it.

Stunning - Edit
Up here on business (expenses) lol so wanted to try somewhere different. So so pleased I did.
Read moreI had the Aloo Dum (spiced potatoes with ground sesame) as a starter. Potatoes were beautifully cooked, really tasty spices and a decent portion size.
Then it was Dal Bhat Tarkari (Vegetarian (Specify you're vegan as the black lentils are cooked in ghee so they'll do you red lentils)) which is a traditional all time classic Nepalese meal of rice, potatoes, bamboo shoots curry (aloo tama), saag (veg)
& lentil soup called Dal.
Served with black or red lentils (see comment re black lentils
Super tasty, food hadn't made me smile for ages, this did. The best food I've had for years.
Staff were brilliantly knowledgeable and generally pleased to be told I enjoyed the food.
