What a wonderful find. They have a daily vegetarian special that is wonderful and different daily. The quality is exceptional. It has been a wonderful discovery in this land of barbeque and deep fried vegetables. To bad they are not open for dinner.
The Whole Wheatery Eatery has a regular menu of about a dozen sandwiches, 9 of which are vegetarian. Most come with cheese (and their menu says nothing about soy cheese options, but they do have soy sour cream), but cheese could easily be left off of most (although some like the pimento cheese sandwich kind of require it). I've been there twice and got the "Bible sandwich" the first time, and was not impressed. But I went back and got their black bean burger and thought it was pretty good. The also have two daily hot lunch options, one of which is vegetarian (but usually not vegan--most if not all have eggs or cheese, and they're pre-made, so can't be altered). The second time I went there, I got a sandwich for lunch and a hot lunch plate to go and reheated it for dinner. It was a cheesy veggie paster, and was actually pretty good (but I eat cheese--sorry vegans!) In all, it's a decent little place, with great prices. All sandwiches are less than $5.00, and the hot lunch, which is a pretty generous portion and comes with 2 sides, is only $6.99. The attached health food store has a really limited selection and really isn't worth a trip by itself. Vitamins Plus probably has all the same stuff and more.
