A meal for every occasion! - Edit
I haven’t been to Wayward in a while due to their dining room still being closed. However, once in a while we get takeout and it’s always good. I usually get the Tuscany Alfredo. Extra bruschetta mix and extra Alfredo sauce in separate containers are a must. The noodles become dry very quickly and the portion is so large the extra sauce/bruschetta brings it back to life when reheating leftovers the next day. The flavors are heavenly! Other great menu items are the Albuquerque Crunch Wrap, Chico Vegan Melt, Mac Daddy burger, Garden Benedict and Buffalo Chicken Drumsticks. Their ranch sauce is very watery but it’s so tasty and surprisingly addictive. They have a ginormous menu which covers whatever you’re in the mood for. As of Covid, their only options for eating are takeout and delivery. It’s not ideal, but eat in your car on the side of the road so the food doesn’t get cold. It’s worth it!

It’s a must visit next time I’m in Seattle again - Edit
Amazing breakfast/diner food. Worth the visit. Was in Washington for a week and half to visit Lopez island. Ended up eating here 3 times on the trip in and out of Seattle. No dine in yet still, but I was happy to eat on a nearby bench or have take out at a friends place.

Food is a 5, experience 1 - Edit
We were in town visiting and went out of the way to visit this resteraunt only to find out that on a rainy day we were not allowed to dine indoors. We had to eat under the bridge on a filthy bike rack. The food is a 5 but the experience was so poor, I cannot give them more than a 3.

Beautiful Brunch - Edit
Was wowed by the Garden Benedict. Incredibly flavorful basil pesto, the bruschetta was so fresh tasting and the side of kale was huge. Delicious breakfast. Filling and satisfying but not too heavy feeling. Got a side of home fries and a piece of fresh toast to split with my friend. Both of those were good but the Benedict is what really wowed me.

My favorite! - Edit
I recently moved close to Wayward and I'm obsessed with them! My goal is to try everything on their menu because MOST things are excellent. I noticed that sometimes they're not super consistent, like the same plate tastes different depending on the day, and recently they forgot to add the side of syrup my waffle was supposed to have. I still give 5 stars because no one is doing what they do in Seattle right now!

Perfect brunch with your Mom. Perfect hangover breakfast at 2pm. Perfect date night for a lazy Sunday. Wayward has everything, really. Can’t wait for them to reopen for dine-in this summer so I can do all in person again. Seattle needs Wayward.

Been closed for dine-in for over a year, my parter is Vegan only and loved this restaurant. It’s not worth it to get it Togo and have it soggy by the time we get home. Completely frustrated about not being able to dine in.

Amazing food - Edit
Amazing food. They don’t do dine-in’s right now due to lack of staff but Green Lake Park is right nearby with bench tables and restrooms which is where we went to eat. The country gravy that comes with the biscuits is INSANE 5/5 dish. Friendly staff too.

Bring friends: Your fav food in a swanky new space - Edit
Wayward had been struggling on during the pandemic and offering take out, but still has not reopened for dine-in. Stay strong, Wayward! We love you!
Read moreThe new location in a word: Swank. In three words: Swank. Spacious. Bright.
The Wayward for breakfast, yay! Awhile back when they updated their menu, I made a point to stray from my favorites (Biscuits Minimus, Lost Souls scramble and Very Veggie omelet -- maybe with a side of steamed greens and a cinnamon roll) and try new items. Every time we went, I ordered something new until I'd tried just about everything that would fit in my belly (the menu includes some very big, hearty dishes). It's great to have a place you can trust to experiment.
I can now report: It's all good.
In the new location, the Wayward has lost its edgy, self-serve diner-ness and added servers (nice, friendly!). We're already planning to bring more family and friends here — space will accommodate — and I can see us coming more often for dinner.
Gosh, nostalgia: I remember two locations ago my first meal at the Wayward. My mother-in-law actually found and suggested it. I had no idea such a place existed — an all vegan breakfast? The location was, well, rustic, but I was in awe of the menu. Vegan biscuits and gravy?! Wow!
Newly vegan, I was a little intimidated (don't fear the vegan!) but totally delighted.
Then, Wayward moved just south of U-District, to vegan-ville (Vegan Haven, Pizza Pi, Araya Thai), it became our go-to breakfast home. We started to run into friends here — impromptu meet-ups.
The new location — still not far from Vegan Haven — invites more people. It's bigger, brighter and less of a nook.
But you can still order anything you want off the menu with confidence. Fantastic!
The future is vegan.

so good - Edit
Update: went back for the second time this week and loved it yet again. Got the Belgian Benedict and it was everything I hoped for.
Read moreWith reviews this great, I knew this place was going to be awesome. The staff were super friendly when I picked up right before they were closing for the night (as a restaurant employee I know that's not ideal). I got the early bird crunch wrap with both gravies and it was sooo good. And huge! I was full after half of the wrap, which I don't mind because the leftovers for breakfast were just as good!! Definitely will be back to try more!

Go-to North Seattle Vegan - Edit
We've been regular customers of Wayward Vegan Cafe for years and have been so grateful that they've stayed open on a take-out basis during the pandemic.
Read moreThe items we've gotten have been uniformly of a high quality and are in the vein of comfort food: we typically order at least one thing off of the breakfast menu--our most-frequently ordered item is the Tots-in-a-Blanket Burrito, and if that isn't the very definition of comfort food, I don't know what is.
Prices are reasonable but not super cheap, but you get a good amount of food with each dish (maybe a positive or a negative--I probably shouldn't always eat til I'm full, but I do whenever I get Wayward).
I lament the absence from the menu of the Seitan Philly Cheesesteak--please bring this back!
Pros: friendly staff, terrific variety of comfort food
Cons: limited hours post-pandemic

Hit or Miss - Edit
I've been to wayward dozens of times, sometimes my meal is FANTASTIC and other times it's barely edible. I've noticed that since they started doing takeout only orders their quality has significantly dropped. I recently got their Garden Benedict and the tofu was cold, pesto was way too oily and flavorless and the side of kale was barely cooked. However, when they still had dine in their sandwiches were amazing and the california crunchwrap was my personal favorite menu item. I just hope that they get back to the same quality they used to be, because until they do I won't be returning.

When you need comfort food - Edit
I've eaten here every time I am in Seattle and am updating for their takeout-only service. Their food is best eaten in your car as hot, fried food is always best fresh. They serve large portions and I'm always up for leftovers. I like that they have a million ways to modify your order on their system. If you want to bring more joy to your life, upgrade to stuffed hashbrowns.
Read moreIf you like spice, bring your own hot sauce. You will need to order cutlery (it's free) and I'm a fan of that because I always have my own fork.
When they were open it was hit/miss for service but my recent interactions have been about 30 seconds so I can't attest.
The menu is huge and a lot sounds the same so it can be hard to decide.

Extraordinarily bland - Edit
This is seriously some of the most bland food I've ever had in my life. Most of the food I've had in Seattle (with the exception of some excellent Thai places) has verged on tastelessness, but this place was the worst. The Tofuevos Rancheros was poorly cooked and soggy, with the most bland enchilada sauce I've ever encountered. The Mac Attack is just inexplicable - why would you wrap it in a tortilla? How is it possible to make such tasteless barbecue sauce? I know this review sounds repetitive, but ugh this place is the definition of overrated. Avoid.

All Day Vegan Breakfast 😍 - Edit
Partner and I are in the area briefly and wanted to try this place out. Last time we were out this way, they were closed for renovations so we couldn't.
Read moreUnfortunately, it was not clear to us that they were only doing carryout, no dine in. It was about a 40 minute drive to get to it, and that was a bummer to discover. So we put in an online order outside the building and waited, and figured we would eat in the car or something. Thankfully, we found somewhere nearby to eat.
The whole menu is 100% vegan with a wide variety of dishes, from breakfast to dinner fare. Nice not to have to worry about what we can order and what we can't. They have online ordering, and detailed online ordering at that, which is big points for us. Parking is street parking, though there is a nearby Park n Ride and Park n Pool.
Whether at home or while traveling, getting vegan breakfast is ALWAYS an issue or ordeal. But the fact that this place is slinging up breakfast from 9a until sometime in the evening is amazing. Seattle, you have it better than a lot of places.
Prices and corresponding portions were good. In fact, most of the food was delicious. The tempeh bacon was weird - crunchy and sort of shaped like bacon, but nothing else about it seemed like bacon. But hey, not everything can be perfect.
The Good Morning Crunchwrap and the Belgian Benedict were great. The pancake was good and the tofu scramble too - plenty of curry and turmeric, as expected. I didn't get to try the Freebird personally but I was told it was pretty good, the texture a little off but flavorful.
Honestly, overall we were impressed with the food. The experience, circumstances included, wasn't perfect but we are still giving this a solid four stars. We look forward to ordering from here again, trying more of the menu, and figuring out where their strengths lie.
Pros: All vegan, Vegan breakfast all day, Great online ordering
Cons: Weird bacon, Didn't know we couldn't dine in, don't live close

Disappointment - Edit
The beef fried steak had a weird texture inside and out. The corn was cold, potatoes were crusted on top(old) and instant box made. The mac and cheese was old, the noodles were hard and flavorless. The gravy made it tolerable.

Best vegan comfort food in Seattle - Edit
Wayward Vegan Cafe is the best comfort food restaurant for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and any occasion. Their menu is so extensive, and you might have trouble picking what to eat because everything is so good! That's literally the only "downside". The vibe of the place is very fun and will keep you coming back for more. I love the huge pancakes for breakfast with curried tofu and tempeh bacon. Last time I was there they advertised "no fur" which I thought was great since most vegan restaurants don't explicitly state other crucial aspects to the message of veganism.
