Good food - Edit
The food was great. I preferred the original name of the restaurant though & the original restaurant had bigger portion sizes as well.

Wayward in name only - Edit
I wish I could review this place twice, one as a new restaurant, once as the new ‘Wayward Cafe’. The Wayward has been through several owners and locations over the years, the original collective-run version was imperfect, but was a really special place when the right folks were working. The first location under the new (at the time) owners on the Ave. was the sweet spot, it maintained the punk/DIY kind of vibe and employees while had the rigor of having people show up to work and cooking consistently. It lost most of its personality on 65th, more yuppie mom and the food got less good over time, but it was still worth it. The new, new owners have totally redone the menu, and the food I’ve tried has been very meh, no love in the taste or presentation. Middle of the road vegan, and the space and vibe feels like you are dining in a husk. The vegan community has changed a lot over the years too so maybe its time to retire the name and start over.

Welcome back, Wayward! - Edit
I was waiting for them to return with dine in to try this place but then I heard they’re closing by the end of the month (Aug 30 2022). My partner and I gave them a try on a whim since it seemed like our last chance. He got the Good Morning Crunchwrap and I got a biscuit and mushroom gravy and side of tofu scramble and kale. We had to walk a little ways to find a place to sit and ended up sitting in some dead grass near the 5. Not ideal, but workable. The food wasn’t bad but seemed like it would have been so much better dining in rather than as takeout. It wasn’t nearly as hot as I want food to be. So sad, this place had so much promise. I’m sure the food is great under typical circumstances.

Came for dine-in after reopening. 🤤😍 The sunshine omelet was amazing! I’m so glad we got to try dining in here. The food was so much better than takeout.

RIP Wayward Cafe - Edit
Service was genuinely great. The food was mediocre. Wayward Cafe was like a vegan Denny's and it was so amazing (super bummed the Sun's Over Seattle is off the menu). Wayward Vegan could be really good, but it felt like it was missing something. I got the breakfast crunchwrap, which was good, kind of wet though. Like the chz sauce was a little thin. Maybe my partner and I just got unlucky and have been the only 2 disappointed in the food.

Still amazing! - Edit
The new management has continued to craft great recipes. I am a little disappointed the Garden Benedict is off the menu now, but they now how a new menu item Okonomiyaki which was great. I wish they had included a better dipping sauce, though hot sauce goes fine with it.

Great. - Edit
Had a great lunch there this week. I noted that some of the dishes on the online menu aren't available at lunchtime (such as a couple of the salads and the spicy edemame). So if you have your heart set on a certain dish for lunch, I'd call ahead to verify whether it's a dinner-only.

Yummy sandwich - Edit
The menu is WAY smaller then it was in the old version of this restaurant, which I think is a good thing. There was way too much going on with the old menu. I had a BBQ burger which had really yummy slabs o’tempeh on it. The fries also seem much improved from the cardboard ones I’ve had here before. My only criticism is that I had a couple of bites that were too salt-heavy.

Comfort! - Edit
We dined in on a Thursday at 11:30 and other guest trickled in, but it was never full (unlike the weekends). We learned their portions are large for us and split the migas. I was impressed they split it for us, serving us each a plate. The migas were light on the tortilla chips… which I appreciated, seasoned well and balanced with the cheese sauce, sour cream and avocado. Service was great!

Great comfort food - Edit
Everything was tasty and felt unhealthy in just the right way. I got the chicken crunchwrap and it was delicious, with the fries being just as good. The cinnamon roll was also a tasty treat afterwards and left me very full.

Home-y! - Edit
My spouse and I ate here and loved the food and the experience. The staff was very friendly, attentive, and were working hard to get food out. We got the tots in a blanket burrito, crunch wrap, and a Caesar salad to share. We have a BIG appetite and came hungry, and we barely finished it all, so the servings sizes are perfect for us. My body doesn’t typically agree all too well with fried foods, however I was impressed, nothing we ordered was greasy at all. I thought it was well balanced for comfort food. Definitely recommend!

Kind of mediocre - Edit
Like a vegan Dennys, honestly. Weird choice of spongey bread for the French toast, 4 halves and no sides came with. The butter was weird, not hard or melted, but like a yellow-white ketchup in consistency (because it held its shape), and I don’t think it was real maple syrup; it was too viscous.
Read moreAlso the menu after reopening is different and much simplified from what the menu was prior to closing, perhaps that will change if they’re in a ramp-up period.

It’s back!!! - Edit
I was really sad when Wayward closed and I’m SO happy they reopened. The new owners seem to be trying hard to keep the integrity of the old menu while improving when needed. Everything we tried was great- the fries especially were perfect! Our food was just as good if not better than the pre-pandemic Wayward. I was glad dine-in was available - the space is clean, airy, and spacious and the staff was kind and attentive. I’m looking forward to returning soon! #Veganuary

Vegan comfort - Edit
This place was for the vegan that misses non vegan food. It had a nice big menu. I got biscuits and gravy and thought the gravy was a little on the skimpy side. All in all this is a good place to take a non vegan family member that you want to trick into eating vegan food.

One of my favorite vegan restaurants in Seattle! Diner-style, comfort food with Large portions! This is one of those vegan spots that’ll have you wanting to try everything on the menu! Everything on the menu looks good plus everything I’ve tried has been 10 out of 10.

Expected more - Edit
From seeing the reviews I had expected this place to be beyond amazing, but I was let down when I tried their tofu scramble. They seemed to try and make it taste like iHop’s type of scrambled eggs but the flavor was so bland, their french toast was alright but I’d choose someplace else next time.

Satisfying greasy indulgence - Edit
I love all of the greasy options that are usually so difficult to find in the vegan versions. The tofuevo rancheros are excellent! Reuben and Chickn Parm are also great. Firehouse sandwich didn't have much sauce and it wasn't spicy, the tatertot hash has lots of garlic so it is great for garlic lovers. Staff are super friendly and I like that they prioritize the health and safety of their staff and customers by not allowing indoor seating due to COVID.

Tasty and filling - Edit
I had the break of dawn crunch wrap with tater tot’s on the side. It was very yummy, but not incredible for me, I just didn’t like the flavor combinations as much as I’d hoped. However Im still giving the restaurant a five, because the crunch wrap was definitely good enough for me to want to return and check out more items on the menu! Their menu has so many delicious sounding options that have me excited!

All vegan place with tonnnnnnnns of options. Their menu is enormous. This place is best known for brunch, but I got the Albuquerque crunch wrap with tots. It was pretty good but could use a little more seasoning/sauce. I would be interested in trying other things here.
