Decreed “the BEST food we’ve had on the island” by my non-vegan husband - Edit
The food was delicious. The servings were generous. The price was reasonable. The owner is friendly. Upon finishing our meal, my husband immediately requested that we return for lunch tomorrow

If you’ve never had lunch in a mattress store, make this your first - Edit
This place is wild little counter-service spot inside of a mattress store😂. The owner runs the show and explained to us that he had free time on his hands and he’s been vegan for 30 years so he decided to add on the restaurant. When we arrived he had sold out of a lot of stuff which he said can happen because he doesn’t like to waste food. He put together a plate with “pork belly” which was a delicious, sweet and savory creation he said he makes with soy, coconut, and rice paper… if my memory serves me. All of the food was tasty and the price has to be the best on the island. Whether or not you’re vegan, if you like Asian fusion, you can get your fill here.

Favorite restaurant in Hilo!! - Edit
This is definitely the best restaurant in Hilo, both vegans and non-vegans will love the food! It's run by a dedicated vegan and offers delicious food at affordable prices. It's a one-man show so sometimes it isn't open or it's sold out, but it's always worth stopping by as all the dishes are delicious. The vegan pork and vegan egg are incredible, he serves a huge amount at a low price, and the flavors are always on point!!

Can’t describe enough how much I liked this place! - Edit
Stopped here because it was pretty close to downtown. It’s a funny space - casual restaurant in the front, mattress shop in the back. The owner was super friendly, talked about how he experimented with ingredients to come up with his recipes, has a layout of maybe 8 or so different items that you can pick from. It sounded good so we took a little of everything. It was all amazing. Definitely our favorite meal on the island after dealing with the touristy vegan options in Kona up until that point.
Read moreReturned to the island and stopped back in. Totally forgot about the experience but it all turned out the same. The owner grabbed a plate, asked me what sounded good, and proceeded to fill the plate with everything. He kept insisting on me trying samples of other items. I left with a plate stacked with a huge amount of food for $13 (no prices are listed, I was prepared to get hit with island prices and was immensely surprised when that was the charge for the amount of food I was given.
Again, I forgot how exciting it was to find this place after the mostly bland touristy options everywhere else on the island.
Highly recommended.
Pros: Homemade food, Surprisingly not super pricey

Great place! - Edit
Such a relief to find somewhere I knew was 'safe' to eat. Very easy walk from the centre of downtown and the owner was so friendly. I called by at 2 and he was really apologetic that he'd sold out of a lot. I didn't mind. Spicy rice, beef (like British kebab) and a noodle pork plate. The pork was the biggest surprise- looked far too much like real pork for me to have picked it on my own but it was DELICIOUS! And not the gristly texture I expected from looking at it. Top marks for affordable, low stress food and fantastic service.

Home cooked meal - Edit
I went to Vegan Shop for lunch and I brought 2 carnivorous friends who have had limited exposure to vegan food. They loved the pork and said it was perfectly fatty with great texture. They said they wouldn't have known it was vegan. They said they would go back again.
Read morePlease note that this is home cooked food … lots of fried foods and lots of calories and lots of deliciousness.
This man at Vegan Shop makes what he grew up eating and he makes it with LOVE. And he makes it available at a great price.

From what I can tell from trying to translate, this person is saying something about it not being Chinese food. This is not a Chinese restaurant, nor does the owner claim it is.
Read morevorpal
This place doesn't claim to serve Chinese food, so I'm not sure why this comment, as translated below by Google translate, is rating it on that merit:
Read more"In any store, you can eat much tastier than there. I do not recommend.
More understandable NOT CHINESE"

Just goes to prove:
Read more“You can please all of the people, some of the time…”
But for those who think they’re in a Chinese restaurant with a Korean cook don’t understand,
Christopher is Vietnamese and dances to the beat of a different drummer.
So this review isn’t worth the cyber data it’s written on.
