Fine options-upset stomach

They mark their menu options as vegan but the past two times my boyfriend and I tried the Spice Palette we both have gotten sick. We suspect there may be ghee in the food as this does not happen with the other two Indian options in the area.

Pros: Variety of options

Cons: Greasy Dosas

Lots of options

Love that the menu is clearly marked with vegan options and the staff are very knowledgeable. I like that they have a tofu dish. The brussel sprout salad is excellent. They do have some dishes here that are unique.

It is more expensive, has smaller portions, and is a bit less flavorful than other local Indian restaurants, and the rice often tastes kind of off to me. The food is good, atmosphere, and parking are nice.

very many delicious & nutritious choices for vegans & vegetarians alike

With ghee and cream so abundant in Indian food, Indian restaurants do not necessarily provide a safe haven for vegans. Thankfully, Spice Palette is different. SP offers many vegan choices. On its inhouse printed menu, Vegan items and Vegetarian items are listed in their own categories, separate from each other. On its online menu, both are classified together on the Veg tab, with an added V for Vegan items. Also, the waitstaff all speak fluent Vegan here.

Among the six vegan entrées that I have tried, all are delicious and none are deep-fried. Even the delicately flavored basmati rice tastes good by itself. My favorite entrée is Aloo Gobi, the potato and cauliflower dish. Even the potatoes unto themselves are surprisingly delicious. Though the Rice & Biriyani menu online lacks V for Vegan annotations, except for the items with meat in their very names, most are vegan.

My fav dish is the Tandoor Brussels Sprout Salad, listed as a side dish under Soups & Salads. Though not labeled V, it indeed is vegan. I order this every time, sometimes a double order and nothing else. My photo displays such a double portion on a single dish. SP needs to revise its online menu photo, which does not do justice to this dish that is as beautiful as it is delicious.

Ever since Spice Palette opened in fall 2021, I have been a steady customer and am grateful for its fine cuisine with high nutritional standards that caters to vegans and vegetarians alike. Now that Right Path Café closed six months ago, the only eatery in New London that offers worthy vegan options is SP. (The Social adorns its façade with false claims of Vegan Options, but grills its alleged vegan burgers in meat burger grease; Jasmine Thai sauces all contain fish; Swad Tandoori lists shrimp as vegetarian. Etc.)

My only complaint is its white rice, rather than the choice of brown. If fast-food national-chain Pokémoto with an outlet across the river in rotten Groton can offer brown rice fresh out of the rice cooker, surely SP can too. (SP, are you listening?)

On your first time here, be sure to dine in person to fully luxuriate in the beautiful presentation of the food on the elegant dishware. Even the dining room is beautiful, so if you order takeout, at least view the dining room. Hard to imagine, but a dreary local four-restaurant chain formerly occupied this same space. Distinct from other downtown New London eateries, the building is accessible, and parking in its own private lot is ample and easy.

Pros: the delicious & nutritious food, the beautiful décor of the interior , the elegant design of the dishware

Cons: only white rice rather than choice of brown rice

Amazing NL Vegan Option!

When the other restaurant we wanted to go was closed, we decided to try The Spice Palette and are SO happy we did!

Our server was super friendly and starting drinks were made well.

SO many vegan options to choose from and the ones we tried were amazing. The food was hot, spiced beautifully, and so comforting. We will be back for sure!

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Friendly staff, Delicious comfort food

Cons: Nothing!
