Great all vegan pub! - Edit
We were stoked to find an all vegan pub during our visit to the UK and this allowed me to eat like a pom and have 'fish and chips'. Firstly, it was a little hard to get to. The listing address has it as being on Byker bridge road, but it's actually not. It is best accessed from Lime Street or Stepney Bank. I would recommend putting 'Ship Inn' into google and searching at that way rather than using the Happy Cow directions. Apart from that everything was great. The menu was fantastic with a great range of meals. Beer selections were also good, clearly specifying which were vegan and which were not. Atmosphere was warm and lively like a pub. There were a selection of board games and books to enjoy as well. I would definitely recommend checking this place out

Best Vegan 'Fish' and Chips - Edit
It took us a while to find this place (its location is not Google Maps friendly) but it was well worth it. The place was buzzing and the atmosphere was warm and friendly. Even though there were loads of people there the service was quick. The menu is small but the food is made so well I don't even care. Nice range of alcohol (although not all are vegan, a lot are so you just have to check). I will definitely be returning here. The prices were a little high, but the portions are well worth it.
Read moreI'm sure the outside benches/beer garden would be really nice in the summer!
Pros: Amazing food, Huge portions, Great service even when busy

Better out than in - Edit
Came here for my 9th wedding anniversary. Food was delicious. I got the 'fish' and chips and my wife got the burger. Chips were fantastic. And I had a pint of moretti (vegan).
Read moreThe downside was we wanted to celebrate with a bottle of prosecco which wasn't vegan so instead paid the hefty sum of £6 for my wife to have a large glass of wine (jack rabbit - it's only £6 to buy the bottle in the shops) at least it's vegan.
Some other non vegan drinks available in bottle and draught which I thought was disappointing.
Overall though, a beautiful meal, some vegan bevvies, lucky the sun was out as the outside is nicer than the inside and I'd definately go back.
Pros: all vegan food menu, lovely beer garden with quite a few tables, some vegan ales
Cons: prosecco not vegan, inside feels dark and divey, not all drinks are vegan

Very popular venue with good choice and very welcome long pub hours . I enjoyed the pie and vegetables and my wife enjoyed the Thai curry, though she had too much to finish it. Most of the beers are vegan as well.

Worth a visit - Edit
Stopped by here on my way to Leeds from Glasgow. This place is definitely worth checking out. They had so many vegan options! I struggled to order as they had so much on the menu that looked amazing but I got the “fish & chips” which were absolutely delicious! Love a place that does thick cut chips! 👌🏻 would highly recommend.

Under his nose was a dream come true - Edit
The pearl that is the Ship Inn is located in the wonderful Ouseburn. A very special part of the city, tucked away down river from Newcastle. I've known about the Ship Inn's vegan kitchen for quite some time and today presented a perfect opportunity to visit. This is traditional English pub grub at a superior level. We had the fish and chips and quesidilla. The 'fish' were beautifully battered pieces of tofu wrapped in seaweed and deep fried. The quesidilla was outstanding. Lots of avocado and kidney beans plus a secret ingredient of peanut butter. The secret is now out. The food took a while to arrive which shows it's prepared with care and attention. Two main courses, a pint of beer and a glass of wine came to a fair £24. It was too early for gin, but if you're into your juniper like I am there is quite an exceptional selection available including the fantastic Monkey 47 from the Schwarzwald. Here comes the Summer.

Dugs in Pubs! - Edit
I live in Glasgow so completely spoiled for vegan eating options, and it can make the offerings in other cities a bit 'meh'.
Read moreThis place however is properly amazing and well worth a trip to Newcastle specially for it.
First of all it is dog friendly, including a dog bed. We met two dogs while we were in and they were both very good girls.
Second it has a book shelf if you fancy a quiet read with your pint.
Thirdly it has a wide good range of beer, including local breweries, available on tap and bottled. Those that are vegan are clearly marked.
Fourthly the food is delicious. I went for the house kimchi which was fried rice, nuts, kimchi and the most delicious pickled ginger. My wife opted for burger which looked good and came with what are probably the tastiest chips I've ever eaten. The portions were generously sized, so I had to help finish off her chips.
The locals were pretty friendly too, ended up chatting to some of them and it is right opposite The Cluny if you ever need pre-gig vegan dinner.
Pros: Dogs., Books, More dogs

Sunday Dinner - Edit
I went for dinner with my other half yesterday, who is an Omnivore. She had the Nachos and said they were the best ones she has had, since she was in Mexico & that she can't wait to go back. I had a nut roast, which was OK but nothing to write home about. We both had a blondie with vegan ice cream for pudding, which was superb. Good overall & looking forward to going back to try more things from the menu.

Everything from walking through the door of the Ship Inn Ouseburn to walking out with a stomach full of delicious food was PERFECT!

Fantastic place - Edit
Very friendly and fun, this is the ultimate in laid back vegan eating. We went on a busy, sunny Sunday and still got a table. I had the vegan 'fish' and chips with minted peas -very nice indeed, but tiny portion for £9 odd. My partner had a curry, it was delicious, (he always orders well.) I will definitely go back, thank you.

Great food that me and my daughter really enjoyed. However it's worth calling in advdbde to check they are doing food. We went for dinner on Sunday and they'd stopped serving at 5pm & tried again for a late lunch and they were closed again. Food great when we finally got it.
