Great food and vibe - Edit
Really enjoyed our meal here! The atmosphere was great and the tofu fish and chips was super! Chips were top notch. Bar area was very busy but we did go on a Saturday night so can't complain.

Pub with fully vegan food menu - Edit
Visited specifically for the vegan food.
Read morePub was quite busy and had a good atmosphere.
I had the vegan fish, chips and mushy peas, the tofu fish portion was quite small but good quality and very fishy tasting, mushy peas were terrible as cold, dry and crumbly which was such a shame as flavour was decent, chips were nice enough.
Had the sticky toffees pudding & ice cream for dessert, it was very tasty just let down by the fact the sticky toffee pudding was barely luke warm.
I would go back for food if I was in the area but wouldn’t travel specifically to eat there again.
Pros: Fully vegan food menu
Cons: Some of the meal was cold.

Quite good pub food overall. - Edit
Would probably give 4.5 stars if that was an option. Mac and cheese, fish and chips and bangers and Mash were all great. Probably some of the best tofu fish I've had. Sticky toffee was a bit disappointing, don't know why there were nuts in it and clumpy custard. But overall a really good pub meal. Worth noting not all of the alcohol is vegan so be careful, but would be back if I was in Newcastle.

Great food - Terrible staff - Edit
I’ve never had a disappointing meal from The Ship. Whilst it did used to be better quality on their normal menu, the roast is still one of the best around. I hate to criticise a vegan friendly place, but the service is always terrible. Staff are nonchalant at the best of times, outright rude in others. Food usually takes a long time to be served, even in quieter times but the staff (management included) seem to be against pleasantries and efficiency.

used to be great, these days avoid - Edit
2018: We love The Ship. It is great at weekends, you can bring non-vegan friends to meet up and eat here, there is something for everyone on the menu. Get there early (especially in winter) on Sundays as it gets very busy! (i.e. 12 noon for opening). But being busy is a good sign! Can combine it with a walk in the area or a visit to the Sunday market. The food and the service are great.
Read more2023: We haven’t been for 3 years. We came in the summer of 2020 and were put off by sarcasm. Today we waited over an hour and a half for an overly salty bowl of mushroom soup and a measly burger meal that wasn’t worth £13. Won’t be back.

Tofish good but only 2x 3 inch nuggets. - Edit
It's a good plateful but quite expensive (£13) and you could finish the actual tofish in a few bites...

🍟🐟 - Edit
Nice space but the price for the portion size of the tofish and chips didn't feel great. It felt like it was mostly mushy peas, with some chips and a bit of tofu.

The Ship Inn - Edit
Busy, popular pub with people enjoying a drink. Seating inside and out. The pub has been around for many years so it’s good to see it still up and running and all vegan. Food however was just average unfortunately. I had the tofish and chips. Personally prefer crispy chips and the tofish was a very small portion. The tomato ketchup was also bright orange which is a new one on me!

Still standing and still vegan - Edit
It's been many years since I last visited The Ship so it was lovely to see it still standing and still serving vegan food. It didn't look like much had changed, looking a little tired inside. I had The Ship Burger which is described as 'House patty of walnuts, mushroom and turtle beans freshly baked bap, crisp lettuce, red onion, pickle burger sauce, house slaw and chunky chips'. I didn't enjoy the patty and I'm pretty sure that was served as a loaf at the sister pub The Carriage for Sunday lunch too. The bap was tasteless but the slaw was lovely and creamy and the chips tasty.

Great Vegan Pub Food - Edit
We had The Falafel, Nachos & Twice Cooked Chunky Chips. The Falafel was amazing, the nachos were nice but too much cheese sauce for my taste and I’d of preferred traditional tortillas chips) and the chips were excellent. Would definitely recommend, we were full otherwise I’d of tried a dessert, they had some amazing options like sticky toffee pudding, crumble and chocolate cake.

Not for me - Edit
Seitan roast dinner was not for me.
Read moreI found the seitan spongy and overly seasoned with herbs. The roast potatoes were old and chalky, and the leeks were gritty as though they’d not been washed prior to cooking.
The mash and the red cabbage were great but not enough to overcome the rest of the dish.
We also ordered the BFC burger which was very crispy/overdone and in need of a lot of mayo to compensate. Chips were great!
I would give the food 2 stars but as the venue is entirely vegan I’m giving 3. Will try again as all other reviews seem good and places do have off days.
Pros: 100% vegan food
MouthyMackem
I’ve had an off day here too where the food wasn’t up to it’s usual standards. I would way give it another go and hopefully you get luckier. I prefer the nut roast to the seitan, the tofish is nice too.
