Pleasantly Surprised

From the name my thoughts were "American Werewolf in London": "Here we go; an old man's pub - battered fish and macaroni only no doubt", I was wrong.

Professionally run place, modern, with great waiting staff and expert chefs.

The vegan options were great but I needed things removed due to allergies. Not only were they removed but excellent substitute ingredients were put in (clearly showing that the Sheep's Heid has a real chef who understands taste and allergies - better than most places, bravo!😊)

Pros: Excellent food in a great atmosphere , Excellent staff (all staff), Quiet location

Cons: Not a 100% vegan restaurant (great options though)

Great choice of vegan options

Lovely pub with a separate vegan menu. I had the nourish bowl which was amazing but my boyfriend had the burger which he said was average. They normally have a vegan roast on a Sunday but unfortunately it was vegetarian yesterday.
Desserts were amazing. Four vegan desserts with vegan ice cream and custard

Impressive vegan options

Outstanding pub. I ordered the Morracan-styled cauliflower tart. The pastry was delicious and the filling was so creamy it just melted in your mouth.

For dessert I had the apple plum crumble with soy custard. It was the perfect ending.

Definitely make reservations. The night we went there was a sign on the door saying they couldn’t accept walk ins.

Pros: Separate vegan menu, OMG - order the cauliflower tart!, Dog friendly

Lovely vegan menu

They have seriously upgraded their vegan options since my last visit! Lovely selection of sharing platters, starters, mains and desserts. They also offer coconut and soya milk for hot drinks.

Pros: Entire vegan menu , Cosy atmosphere and friendly staff , Non-alcoholic cocktails available

Cons: Can be very busy during peak hours

Great vegan selection but salty!

I appreciate that they have an extensive and separate vegan menu with over a dozen choices from apppetisers, mains, and desserts. The burger was fantastic — the texture was so realistic but veganly delicious. The onion tart was also very tasty, but it didn’t look like a standard onion tart with all the toppings; still good. The coconut curry would’ve been perfect if it weren’t for the aubergine sautéed in miso sesame. The flavors contradicted themselves. If the chef is reading this, just add the eggplant directly to the curry without any other sauce. I also ordered the veggie side dish and added sticky rice. The vegetables would’ve been stellar just steamed. Instead, they were in what was essentially a soup of soy sauce. The added rice made it tolerable and i can’t imagine eating it by itself. We also got the sautéed mushroom starter. Again, the mushrooms were delicious but the sauce was way too salty and I actually waited for the rice to arrive to eat with it, to reduce the sodium overload.

Pros: Extensive menu , Good atmosphere , Burger and onion tart

Cons: TOO SALTY!, let the veggies shine on their own

Excellent Vegan Menu

Great variety of options for every course, including 5 deserts. Menu has recently been updated. Found everything I had to be very tasty (had the burger and the treacle tart, friend had burger and tart tatin- see photos).

Pros: Loads of vegan options , Beyond meat burger, one of the mains , Lovely country pub venue, friendly helpful staff
