Food was tasty but not enough of it!

I'm always pleased to see a range of vegan options but our experience here was let down by the small portion sizes and inaccuracy of the descriptions.

I ordered "Courgette, leek, wild garlic
and walnut crumble" as a main which turn up as 3 asparagus, a couple of pieces of leek with some walnut sprinkled on top... costing £12.75! My partner had the cassoulet which was a bit more substantial but still needed a side.

I think they may have interpreted vegan as meaning "doesn't eat much"

dishes not accurately described

I want to really thank the royal oak for devising a vegan menu. Very impressive that they have taken the time and effort to cater for vegans and people with allergies and intolerances.

I had an Asian style noodle salad for a starter and it was delicious- lots of fresh vegetables and herbs and seasoned perfectly.

For mains i ordered a cassoulet. Having lived in France for a number of years and having made cassoulet many times I was delighted to see it on the vegan menu. What arrived was a perfectly nice bean stew topped with a few fried potatoes. Had it been described as bean stew I would’ve been happy, but I was very disappointed to get bean stew when I ordered cassoulet.

Finally I ordered an apple and walnut crumble for dessert. What I got was stewed dried fruit topped with loads of walnuts. Had it been described honestly I would never have ordered it. It was truly awful.

There is nothing wrong wirh serving bean stew or stewed dried fruit with walnuts, but it is very wrong to misrepresent those dishes as “cassoulet” and “crumble”

Good lunch

Given a dedicated vegan menu when asked for options, food was very tasty and staff friendly. Dog friendly too :)

Solid choice of vegan options

Comfortable vegan options and a dedicated vegan menu.

There's even vegan apple pie not listed on the menu!

Pros: lots of vegan options

Cons: expensive
