Disappointing Lunch

Don't go here if you're vegan. They don't have the vegan menu that is in the other photos. And now only have 2 options. The pasta was very disappointing. I don't like olives and it didn't say that it came with olives, so I sent it back. It was basically tomato sauce and pasta for £14. Menu says sauteed vegetables but just got uncooked tomatoes. Garlic bread was ok, it came with vegan cheese which wasn't that nice. again, didn't say it was cheesy garlic bread on the menu.
Wouldn't go back

Cons: Expensive, 2 vegan options

Good range of mains and desserts

The Royal's menu is split into a few sections - starters, little & large, salads, pizzas and favourites. There was at least one vegan option in each. I went for quattro stagioni pizza. It was tasty & with a really delicious cheese, but I could've managed a starter or side as well. There were at least 3 dessert options. I went for sticky toffee pudding. The sauce was a bit too sticky for me but it was good.

Pros: Plenty of choice

Cons: A little pricey

Decent attempt at a vegan menu

Came here with my boyfriend’s family as it has a vegan menu and there doesn’t appear to be many places in Kirkby Lonsdale that do.
It’s nice to see they’ve tried and have options for starters, mains and desserts.
I opted for the sticky sesame cauliflower for a starter which I shared with my boyfriend. It was really good and the addition of the mango was unusual but tasty. I did ask for the coriander to not be included but it came out with it on. Luckily it was only a little so I was able to pick it off but if I had allergies that behaviour might be a little unsettling as there’s a communication issue between the serving and kitchen staff.
For mains I had the carrot and courgette “tagliatelle”. We were informed upon ordering that it didn’t contain actual wheat pasta. I had assumed that but it was good to have that disclosed upon ordering. This meal was really delicious, the addition of the savoury granola was a nice touch.
My only gripe would be the lack of protein (I thought everyone assumed vegans didn’t get enough and if they saw me eating this I’d be the [censored] of jokes for the rest of my life!) It could be improved really easily by throwing in half a can of chickpeas, quinoa, tofu, lentils etc.
Finally I ordered the salted caramel banana tarte tatin. While ordering I was informed that it would take 25 minutes to make and the other vegan dessert the brownie would take 20 minutes. Again, really good that this is disclosed upon ordering but a bit annoying to have to wait so long. I assume they’re freshly prepared as they don’t get a lot of people requesting them. We were okay to wait though and I’m glad I did as it was delicious.
Overall it was nice to have a choice rather than just one option. Falls a little at the protein hurdle (although their other vegan main is full of protein!) but other than that I couldn’t really fault it.
