Vegan Crêpes!! - Edit
Delicious vegan crepes! Had the vegan banana chocolate crepe, baby blue savory crepe, black bean chili. Ordered a lavender chamomile matcha latte and forgot to ask for oat milk instead of cow but our sever had my back! Made my drink without dairy without me asking, total life saver!

Good chili - Edit
The chili is good. I was expecting bigger portion sizes though, definitely go for the bowl if you’re in doubt.

Good Spot! - Edit
They had a vegan menu of about 6-8 items! I had the granola and the crepe- they were both very good.

NOT vegetarian - Edit
This place serves ham... Not sure why it's marked plant-based when everyone who lives here knows it's not. There are plenty of great plant-based options but it could be better.

Grateful for their vegan options! - Edit
Glad they still offer black bean chili, and a few other vegan friendly items, though I do miss the crepes they used to have. Love this place & the folks who work there!

A nice place for a light lunch - Edit
With so few places in LaCrosse to get vegan eats, we are grateful for this place. Nice atmosphere, yummy food, reasonable pricing. Menu is clearly marked for items that can be made vegan. Oat milk available as a non dairy alternative for coffee beverages

Vegan crepes - Edit
Chai Tea latte is made in-house, and a great blend of spices. Crepe batter is vegan and most menu items can be made vegan. Worth a visit!

Everything can be made vegan! - Edit
I stopped here twice on my visit to La Crosse. The first time I had an amazing black bean chili. The second time, in honor of the disastrous Helsinki summit, I had their Cremilin crepe. They have a special batter for vegan crepes, and added more veggies in place of the egg and cheese. I’m not sure why there have been so many negative reviews... this place is excellent. I will definitely be returning.

disappointing options for vegan - Edit
I was visiting a friend in LaCrosse and was excited to see that there were some vegan options in town. Unfortunately, other than their chili they do not offer vegan options. Every crepe had either egg, dairy or both egg and dairy on it. I asked if they had vegan cheese and they did not have that option - there is literally a food coop down the street that sells Daiya vegan cheese. I could have ordered a crepe without the dairy and egg but it would have been a rip off. Next time we will choose a different option.

Sweet spot! - Edit
While the menu has changed since my first visit, the Root Note is still a great spot in La Crosse. They no longer list vegan items on their chalkboard, however after asking I was told they still offered these items. The vegan crepes are great and definitely worth checking out.

no vegan options, not worth the stop - Edit
I am traveling by on a cross country trip and was happy to see a vegan friendly stop in LA crosse. Sadly this place has no vegan options unless you count coffee. Not worth the diversion from rt90. LA crosse is a cool town though and root note is hipster cool with good coffee but I walked away hungry.

Loved It. - Edit
We had the black bean chili (vegan) and the Cremlin crepe with mushrooms, spinach and fried egg. The coffee was great, the iced tea was great, and the staff was very pleasant. Even the music was good.

Meh - Edit
We had visited the Root Note a year ago and were pleased to find vegan options in such a small town. We planned a return visit despite it being a bit out of the way and the somewhat slow service.
Read moreHowever upon entering this time I noted the change. Gone were the vegan options. Replaced with vegetarian friendly but very vegan unfriendly crepes. Thankfully their soup of the day was vegan that day but I definitely won't be going out of my way again. And my omni dining date didn't even enjoy his crepe.
I am sad to see another vegan-friendly oasis in the land of dairy gone.
Pros: Cute Atmosphere, Good coffee
Cons: No vegan options, Overpriced.
