Hostile staff, rancid oils & webbed flours - Edit
Extremely hostile staff
Read moreI would give it less stars, but there is a base 2 stars for a vegan listing.
The staff here were extremely hostile toward all the patrons in the store when we went, including a child, in line with other reviews as well.
The oils are in clear glass, as shown in a picture in a different review, in the window, in the heat and sunlight! This is how oils degrade and become denatured!!! This is how rancidity happens! Selling rancid oils is toxic!!
I think its safer to know the chain of custody is healthful than to buy oils that are in clear glass in direct sunlight, even it makes it look inviting and Karen-yoga-studio-chic, it is NOT how oils are kept and only serves to spoil them!!!
Cleanliness is a disappointing factor. The flour we bought had little webs in it, likely from being stored improperly (maybe too hot? - back stock maybe kept cool might help their investment stay longer rather than passing the loss onto the customer).
Surprising they can stay in business selling subpar food that has gone bad. I did not keep a receipt...
several reviews have been pulled from here, which in my case, adhere to the policy which I am extremely clear on. how many other inappropriate times has the "ambassador" pulled the review? maybe we should get the webmaster involved? how many reviews does she monitor for her agreement? this place is problematic, the food the vibe and I am allowed to tell my experience, that is what HC is based on.

Nowhere did I suggest it is a jihadist money laundering scheme, I didn't reference the materials that celebrate the sexual assaults and murders of innocence they keep on their counter. I referenced the oils and flours and that I had no receipt, now I recall they dont give them which is why i didnt find mine.

Everything you need and more - Edit
If you live here, it’s a must for bulk goods.
Read moreDry and liquids: oils, vinegar, vegan alternatives to common ingredients, soaps, detergents. They even carry vegan white chocolate chips that actually have cacao butter & vanilla - not just sugar and oil like most!
If you’re visiting I’d still say stop here, decent amount of snacks and treats you can enjoy while you’re visiting. Vegan cheeses, trail mix, chips and a few dips.

Overwhelmed at The Realm - Edit
So many products! Cleaning supplies, condiments, dried fruit, flours, grains, granola, nuts, spices, tea, etc. Small selection of fresh vegetables. It's not advertised, but everything is vegan, so you don't have to check ingredients. I wish I could sample some of the snacks before buying. Currently not allowed to use your own containers, but they're advocating to change the law.

This store is a dream come true and is so well thought out. A simple $2 deposit for any jar which can be refunded upon return or swapped out for another jar. A wide array of products, with a huge focus on local and small businesses! And its all vegan, which is amazing. Words can't contain my excitement for this store, go check it out soon!

Finally a zero-waste grocery store in PDX! - Edit
Portland finally has a zero-waste grocery store and its ALL VEGAN! Their selection is extremely well thought out and curated. Any compostable packaging is truly compostable, no industrial facilities needed, no greenwashing. Even the local Vtopian cheese they sell is wrapped in a backyard compostable certified cellophane. This place is the real deal. The inside of the store is beautiful with tons of bulk offerings along with plastic-free products and resources for reducing waste and moving towards a zero-waste lifestyle. Unlike other zero-waste store concepts I've seen, you can be sure all of the products here are cruelty free (both the owners are vegan) and they have refrigerated goods and local organic produce and breads. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and can easily answer any of your questions about their vast selection of products as well as tips for reducing your waste.
