100% Satisfied! - Edit
Went with a friend who had seen this place packed when she ate at a nearby trad restaurant. We split two vegan sandwiches and everything was just right! Healthy, perfect portions, even the greens on the side were fresh and organic! 100% satisfied. Menu item descriptions are informative. Wish we’d had room for dessert! Oh- horchata was refreshing too!

Love this place - Edit
I live out of state. Every time I visit New York I have to go to The Purple Elephant. I have been going for years. I always get the delicious Sorry Charlie Tuna sandwich. It is an open faced 'tuna' sandwich made with chickpeas. It is only on the lunch menu. The Thai peanut cauliflower wings are delicious. Everyone at this restaurant are so friendly. The service is outstanding. There are so many vegan options. Mostly all the desserts are vegan. I highly recommend this place.

Summer evening on the deck - Edit
I took my mom here for her birthday and we had a lovely, warm evening on the atmospheric deck overlooking the Britannia Yachting Center. As others have noted, the best thing about this restaurant is that vegan options are the vast majority, and they're good. My favorite appetizers were the Thai Elephant Wings, which are cauliflower-based, with a peanut-ginger sauce. My favorite main course was the Stuffed Spaghetti Squash. (The Eggplant Rollatini was pretty good, but the creamed spinach and vegan cheese overwhelmed the eggplant.) The coconut custard brulee was delicious, too. And the staff was generous and professional: They accommodated our last-minute request for an outdoor table and went out of their way to take care of my mom. Two suggestions for visitors: (1) Reserve a table and ask for the back deck. (2) The portions are so generous that you'll want to order in courses, rather than all at once. The two of us would have been fine splitting three appetizers and no mains, or two appetizers and one main.

I’m sorry I forgot to take a picture, but I ordered the tempeh Reuben and the yucca fries and both were delicious. My daughter had the veg eggplant parm sandwich and loved it.

Take the meat-eaters - Edit
I chose where we’d be taking my meat-eating relatives for dinner and my brother had a fit. “I don’t support this decision. They’re going to think it’s so weird. This is going to be a disaster.”
Read moreWell…everybody was very happy! As the only non-meat eater in the group I was thrilled to be at a place with options (and many!) I looked forward to. Some meat-eaters happily chose burgers and chicken. Some decided to experiment with vegan options. Everybody sampled everything and was surprised that it tasted so good, even my doubting brother. A big win for me!
The biggest success with the meat-eaters was the vegan mac and cheese. We got it as an appetizer to share and everyone enjoyed it. My skeptical brother also loved his Korean style vegan tacos.
If Happy Cow let me give this place five stars I certainly would.
Pros: Many vegan options , Meat options for those who want, Lots of choices for real or imitation cheese
Cons: None!

Substantial vegan menu. - Edit
Great restaurant located along a boat marina with an extensive vegan menu. The menu has a ‘non-vegan’ section which I appreciated (it’s nice to see things flipped the other way for a change).

Tasty apps with large portions, but some items are too sugary - Edit
The menu is about two thirds vegan with lots of exciting options. The yucca fries were a huge portion, delicious, and crispy. We also enjoyed the vegan wings with three dipping sauces. However, for both of our entrees (Burnt Ends Enchilada and Carnitas Tacos) the vegan meat was overwhelmingly sweet and sugary. When asked if we enjoyed the food, we mentioned this and were told that, "The chef says it's supposed to be that way." Overall, we had a decent dining experience, but would explore other menu options than the entrees we chose if coming again.

A total gem - Edit
Lucky to live close to this total gem of a restaurant! Incredible food and large portions. However it’s a bit pricey but the leftovers are worth it. The menu features an eclectic variety of food from Asian to Italian to Latin dishes. Some favorites include the eggplant rollatini, burnt ends quesadilla, (ask for extra vegan cheese) the Buffalo cauliflower, vegan wings and curry bowl.

Good Food. Many Vegan Options - Edit
Very nice, but casual atmosphere. Staff are friendly and helpful. Service is prompt. Prices are not exorbitant but not a “bargain” either. Lots of options for vegans but they do serve meat, which is a turn off. Wish they’d go all in on plant based but a good option for Long Island where full vegan options are not plentiful.

Never Satisfied - Edit
I’ve been to The Purple Elephant about 5 or 6 times and have never really enjoyed my meal. I’ve tried a ton of different things (French onion soup, burgers, Reuben, tacos, wings, desserts, and more). I only ever have truly enjoyed the wings which they don’t even make themselves. I really want to like this place as it has a ton of vegan options but I’ve yet to really enjoy my meal.

Racism is perfectly fine here - Edit
My family and I called early for a table for four.
Read moreDespite three open tables of four in the front of the restaurant, we were seated by the rest room when we arrived. Let me save you the details of the stenches in that area. We then asked to be reseated to the front of the restaurant when we were told that the tables were booked however, they seated another two Caucasian women without any hesitation right before our eyes.
I called the manager to let her know that I’d be leaving a review as such and she said that’s perfectly fine, no issues.
I guess racism is perfectly fine at the Purple Elephant establishment. Never again.

Our go-to fancy vegan spot - Edit
We’ve been coming here for years and it always hits the spot. The vegan tacos are probably the best thing on the menu, and the cauliflower wing appetizers are great too. The back patio is our preferred spot to eat — nice views over the water. (The interior is nice too; the front outdoor tables feel like an entirely different restaurant.)
Read moreThe menu is like ⅔ vegan, including all but one of the appetizers, but there is also a full meat selection served (so it’s a good place to get a nice dinner with the kinds of people who would die if they had to go a meal without eating cow parts).

Our Go-To Restaurant - Edit
My husband and I have been going here for years. Before he transitioned to a plant based as well, this was one of the very few places we could go and both feel like there were ample choices. It's also a great place to go with non-vegan friends. Everyone is happy. The food is always delicious, they have some interesting drinks on the menu as well. I do wish they would incorporate more whole foods rather than meat substitutes. Definitely make a reservation as they fill up quickly, especially on Friday and Saturday.

Went here for Valentine’s Day and it was great. I had been hearing about this place for a while and there was a good reason as to why. Everything was great and we were thinking about their vegan “wings” for days afterwards!
