Wow, amazing banana blossom based vegan vish‘n‘chips

First of all, due to my further experiences on our two weeks stayal in England my expectations were quite low. But then we entered the Pullman and asked for the vegan fish n chips. What an amazing, not the healthiest but well prepared and, super meal which perfectly accompanies some pints. It comes
with delicious mashed peas (for the peace of conscious) and tartare sauce. Excellent deep fried experience, but I think the photos do speak for themselves!

Good food, great location

The Pullman no longer has a bespoke vegan menu unfortunately so there aren't as many choices as there used to be, and because the food is also available at sister restaurant The Harbour Inn or has actually started to get a bit boring after all these years. With Marley's and Dr Legumes between both sites it's hard to justify going to either. I miss the range of old dishes, especially the meatballs. I normally go for the burger or banana blossom, I found the pie disappointing because of the potatoes.

The pub is lovely any time of year - the large, sunny walled garden is a rarity in Folkestone town centre and there are multiple open fires to warm up by in the winter.

Beavertown Gamma Ray is on draught, a very nice vegan craft American pale ale.

Lovely candlelit dinner

The menu is only a page long but they still had a vegan section. Had the vegan fish and chips and it was really good, the texture was spot on, chips were also really good. Went on a Thursday and it was a good level of busy, we were served really quickly and food was fab

Pros: Lovely ambience, Great food, Lovely staff, family run

Cons: Bit on the expensive side

Good vegan fish and chips

Nice atmosphere, cosy pub with vegan options. We had the vish and chips and vegan pizza. Both were very filling and fatty. Vish came with mushy peas, which might not be to everyone's taste, but we liked them.

Great service and friendly staff

I visited with my friend on a Sunday night when most places are shut. She was visiting from Finland and had never had banana blossom fish before so we ordered two portions plus the Jackfruit Wings as a starter. The Jackfruit wings were the best and the BB fish and chips were huge. The BB fish didn’t taste fishy enough for my taste buds but it was really nice. The texture is similar to that of fish (from what I can remember)

Pros: Huge portions , Friendly Staff

Good atmosphere

We went here on Saturday early evening. Was really busy with a good atmosphere. There was two things crossed off the vegan menu which left a limited choice. I had the banana blossom fish and chips with a chocolate brownie and ice cream. I wasn't a fan of the fish (never had banana blossom before) but the rest was lovely.

Pros: Separate vegan menu, Dog friendly in the back/bar area

Cons: Few things crossed off the vegan menu

Ageist

Weren’t even allowed in as I’m 23. Can’t imagine this would just be accepted if it wasn’t allowing people over 50 in.

Age discriminatory

I went with my gf to get a meal, we are both in our early 20's. I have had to work all throughout the Covid crisis as I am considered an essential worker, we came down to folkestone for a small weekend away and were refused entry because we were under 25. This wasn't advertised in anyway before hand and we were left feeling very embarassed.

Nice Burger

The burger was tasty, but nothing to write home about, just a standard patty. The banna blossom fish and chips on the other hand were apparently very nice. However, service was very slow (albeit this was during the 'eat out to help out' scheme so it was very busy) and there weren't any vegan dessert options

Cons: No vegan desserts

Good food

So glad they have finally included vegan options! The location is great, I love the Pullman’s vibe and atmosphere. I would say that it can be a bit pricey and the service isn’t always great, but definitely worth a visit to the garden on a yummy sunny day!

Pros: Location, Beer garden is stunning - even in winter, Dog friendly

Cons: Pricey, Have had negative experience with the staff
