Cosy, Chrismtassy & great plant-based options!

We chose to stop off at the Polgooth Inn before heading to the Lost Gardens Of Heligan ‘Night Garden’ - what a great decision it was!
The staff accommodated my short notice request (a few hours before dining) of a table for two, the pub was beautiful to dine in, cosy, very Christmassy, and the service was friendly and fast.
I’d like to mention in particular the varied menu, with great seasonal specials, both of which had super plant-based options. I had the lentil cottage pie which was so good! My girlfriend had a vegan blue cheese pastry thing which was also lovely! It’s rare to find a traditional pub with such well-thought out and tasty plant-based options.

(PS. We’ll be back again with our camper van for a stop-over in their car park, which the team said they’d accommodate if we ate at the pub that evening.)

Pros: Variety of plant-based options, Quick service, Seasonal (plant-based) specials

Evening dinner for two

The venue was lovely, really nice atmosphere and friendly staff. The vegan options were amazing. We had Katsu tofu burger with polenta fries (you must try these they were amazing) and vegan shepherds pie again really tasty. Good size portions on the mains. We just about had room for dessert and wow the vegan blackcurrant cheesecake did not disappoint. I would recommend this restaurant and will hopefully go back soon.

Pros: Excellent food, Friendly knowledgeable staff , Good value

Cons: None, None, None

What a great pub!

We came here for lunch and had a wonderful experience. It's a lovely old pub and we were made to feel very welcome. Extremely busy for a wet, Monday lunch time. Lots of delicious sounding vegan dishes. I had the special which was a wild mushroom & lentil pie with bread and salad. The pie was really tasty. Others had the mushroom risotto and the Moving Mountains burger and said they were delicious. The Sunday roast sounds amazing!

Pros: Good vegan options , Great service, Lovely old pub

Cons: Veg would've gone better with the pie than salad

Family visit

4 vegans, 2 veggies and 2 omnivores booked lunch. We were early but they were happy accommodated us. 2 of us had lentil & mushroom pie which was good & hearty, but I personally would have preferred veg accompaniments rather than salad. Three of our group had Moving Mountains burgers which they enjoyed, and one had the risotto which she really enjoyed. Service was good & attentive, we asked for plant based spread for bread but the mayo wasn’t vegan. The pub is lovely with a great ambiance, we will return whenever we’re back in Cornwall.

Pros: Excellent choices, Good service, Ample portions

Wonderful home-cooked food

We could not have had a warmer welcome (despite it being a little chilly out!). A lovely lady greeted us and found a warm spot for us next to a heater. We grabbed some blankets and made ourselves comfy with some nice views across the valley.

The food was as wonderful as the service. We shared the Non-Meat Anti Pasti & the potato skins to start. Both were yummy, but the hummus on the anti pasti was outstanding - homemade with coriander from the pub’s own kitchen garden. Sadly we weren’t allowed to steal the recipe!

For mains I had the ‘Non-meatballs’. Once again I was not disappointed. A huge portion of fresh, home-cooked fare.

Highly recommend.

Pros: Really lovely staff & service, Heaters & blankets (for lockdown eating!), Fresh, home grown ingredients

Great pub good food

The pub is amazing and the staff are super helpful. There were 3 or 4 vegan options which was nice, but the good itself was average. Would still highly recommend and for the area doubt you'll find anything anywhere near this good

Pros: Multiple options, Lovely pub, Helpful staff

Cons: Expensive, Food lacked flavour

Lovely pub not enough variety with food

We chose not to eat here in the end due to lack of choice just burrito or jacket potato as a main. However a lovely place to stop for a drink with the dogs after a walk. They grow so much beautiful veg on site hopefully by next summer some more homegrown food will available

Pros: Nice atmosphere , Dog friendly , Great beer

Cons: Not enough variety

Less vegan options than expected

A nice pub with quite modern decor in places however the menu was very underwhelming when it came to vegan options. These consisted of two starters, burritos or jacket potato.

This was a far cry from what is described on here, there was no separate vegan menu so I assume the pub has changed hands?

However the food was wonderful (had the southern fried colliflour burrito) and the staff bent over backwards to accommodate for us, the chef threw together some puddings despite them not being on the menu which was greatly appreciated.

The cost was high for what it was but if you don't mind burritos I can safely say you'll enjoy yourself here.

Pros: Wonderful staff, nice food

Cons: Expensive, very lacking in vegan options

Good vegan menu, but ...

Fab menu but a little over-cooked (kale bhajis) and a lot overpriced. Still worth a visit as the pub itself is gorgeous and the staff are lovely. I’d go again for the all-round package.

Pros: Inspired vegan options, Friendly staff, Gorgeous pub

Cons: Expensive, Over-cooked

Wow Wow Wow! Amazing food!

Cornwall is not the easiest place to find good vegan food, especially at pubs or inns, but this place totally blew me away! Vegetarian things are labeled on the normal menu, but you need to ask for the vegan menu from someone behind the bar. There are three options each for appetizers, mains, and desserts, all of which look lovely. I had the Moroccan nut loaf and it was seriously to die for. The salad on the side had ingredients straight from their garden, with the yummiest little red peppers that tasted like a cross between a red pepper and a cherry tomato.

It was seriously such a refreshing experience

Pros: incredible food, fantastic service

great vegan options at country pub restaurant

I was very pleasantly surprised by The Polgooth Inn. It is set in the countryside and is a gorgeous typical county pub looking place. They have a separate vegan menus with three starters, three mains and puddings. All of which sounded and was amazing. All of the dishes were very hearty, great if you love big portions. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Great place to eat out with omnivores, great choice for both vegan and non-vegan, everyone is happy!

Pros: great food, big portions, friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere

Cons: also serves meat dishes if you're not keen on that
