Serves meat, vegan options available. Restaurant located within the hotel. Offers a pea, asparagus and mint courgette linguini listed on menu as vegan. Open Mon-Sun 12:00-22:00.
I try to avoid posting negative reviews but this place is actively hostile to vegetarians and vegans. I’d been earlier in the year and was disappointed with my meal, the vegan fajitas, because it seemed like the fajita veg was the trimmings from the roasts (I’ve never seen massive stems of broccoli or huge chunks of carrots offered as fajita veg before) and my friend’s main was similarly awful. She ordered the gnocchi in tomato and basil sauce though it was made with red peppers, which for her are an allergen. It tasted powerfully of black pepper, and it got sent back. Based on that experience, when we went back for a birthday celebration last week we decided to use our restaurant credit on the afternoon tea. We advised them of dietary requirements a few days ahead of our stay. The vegan afternoon tea was about the saddest thing I’ve ever been offered. Sandwiches were squeezy guacamole and red onion slivers. Scones replaced by a bowl of chopped melon and strawberries which I suspect were left over from the breakfast buffet. The cakes replaced by … a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I’m genuinely embarrassed for the kitchen that saw fit to send this out to a paying customer. Needless to say I didn’t pay for this sorry excuse for an afternoon tea, but based on these experiences I won’t be returning. I must say that the hotel and facilities were very pleasant, but they’re let down enormously by the kitchen. If they don’t want to accommodate vegans they shouldn’t advertise that they do, quite simply.

Amazing afternoon tea - Edit
Had a very different experience compared to the previous review.
Read moreI had a voucher for Bowfield which included the afternoon tea.
Had four sandwiches with four different (tasty) fillings, a vegan scone and four cakes/ gateaux.
It did take around 40mim to arrive but was worth the wait.
Would definitely come back again.
