Serves meat, vegan options available. Vegan options are limited to that usually found at American-fare restaurants (salads, sides and more). They do offer a BBQ tofu dinner, using non-GMO locally-produced tofu nuggets. The wait staff is very helpful. Open Mon-Thu 11:00am-10:00pm, Fri-Sat 11:00am-11:00pm, Sun 11:00am-9:00pm.

If you need a vegan option with non-vegan family - Edit
Happy to see they’ve added a vegan option to accommodate if you have family that is craving barbecue. Nothing special, but a photo provided below. Waitress was really kind and patient. Note that the fries are subject to cross contamination if that is important to you.

⭐️⭐️.5 - Edit
My normal dining experiences here have been disappointing. The food was greasy and the server was not at all informed about vegan items on the menu. However, when they catered a work event, the food was excellent so I feel like there could be hope but that perhaps they just aren’t very interested in maintaining vegan clientele.

Not vegan friendly - Edit
I went here to try the vegan bbq tofu plate that comes with 2 sides, but *none* of the sides are vegan. You cannot upgrade to a side salad without a $3.50 upcharge. So I ordered the bbq tofu ranch salad without cheese or ranch and a balsamic vinaigrette (this supposedly came with bbq tofu, black beans, red peppers, corn, lettuce, and avocado). When I received it, it had ranch, so I asked to have it remade. I was told that the veggies and beans were already in the ranch, and was presented with dry (no bbq) tofu atop lettuce as my “salad”. They did bring me out large cut carrots and green peppers eventually to add to it. But come on. This place is not vegan friendly.

Beware ‘vegetarian’ sides - Edit
This restaurant really should not be on this app. For the average person, it seems genuinely very nice and my husband and children did enjoy their food. When I questioned my server why things like French fries and sweet potato fries had the symbols for *vegetarian* instead of vegan, after checking with the kitchen, she informed me that it is because they also cook meat in the fryers... which means they are also not vegetarian. I tried asking for no sides with my tofu nuggets, which apparently wasn’t an option, and my server suggested multiple things that when I asked were made with animal products (coleslaw- mayo, yams or green beens- butter, etc). There was no offer to adjust or accommodate. I ended up getting macaroni and cheese as a side for my daughter and was further disappointed to receive my plate with everything basically piled on top of each other, so of course cheese sauce was all over everything. Like I said, it’s truly not a bad place and for someone who eats meat I’m sure it’s fantastic, but it’s not remotely vegan-friendly.

Yum - Edit
I liked this place before I went vegan. I do like the option they have. Yet they dont have much sides that dont have dairy, eggs, or meat in them. Also the bread they offer isn't vegan.

No vegan sides - Edit
The vegan soy nuggets are pretty good but they dont have any explicitly labeled vegan sides. You can get fries but they use the same frier as meat so that may not be an option for some people. They also just bring you a plate of some cornbread and hushpuppies, which I assume are not vegan, so it feels wasteful not eating those, but if you remember to ask them not to bring it that would work.

since going back... - Edit
Since going back they weren’t accommodating at all. There’s one option. Tofu nuggets without sauce. No sides. Bummer.

Delicious - Edit
The BBQ soy nuggets and the mushroom burger were both amazing! All the sides we got we're really delicious. I really liked the variety of food. They didn't have a ton of vegan and vegetarian options, but I liked that I could eat with people that didn't eat that way and they would still have great choices also. The atmosphere was very relaxed and the dining room was nice and so was the serving staff.

Best BBQ Tofu Ever! - Edit
My vegan dish at The Pit is their BBQ tofu and grilled veggies! I don't mind going to a BBQ place with my meat eater friends as long as it's The Pit! You have to try this meal!

watch for those who don't understand Vegan! - Edit
Good food but as usual watch for servers that don't totally understand Vegan. We told the server we were Vegan and ordered the only vegan entree Barbecue Tofu. They served it with a biscuit and hush puppies! Luckily we thought to confirm before we ate and they do have dairy in them. Really bothers us if you are going to offer Vegan dishes make sure they are served Vegan...... The tofu was great but now we worry it was not Totally vegan.....

Great place! - Edit
Nice to finally find a veg-friendly restaurant that isn't Italian, Asian, or Mexican! There aren't many veg-specific menu items, but the basics are covered. The BBQ tofu plate is fantastic, not the usual square sponge cake offered at other non-veg places! Waitstaff was very quick to point out side dishes prepared with and without meat, and didn't give the eye roll when asked about vegetarian options. The free range meat and local/organic produce make them an appealing option for a mixed crowd, and all of it is prepared skillfully and tastes great.
Read moreI have been to vegetarian restaurants that take less interest in their tofu dishes than this place does. The Pit uses Delight Soy nuggets, a non-gmo locally produced product that almost had me fooled! Went back the next day to see if it was just a fluke, and left very satisfied. Good flavor, generous portions, and happy me!
Pros: Friendly staff, Quality menu, Great value
Cons: Few vegan options
