The most magical Gastropub around - Edit
We love going to the Perch after taking a long walk on Port Meadow, or all the way up to Godstow along the river. It's warm and cozy on a cold winter night, and lovely to sit outside for Pimms in the summer.
Read moreFor starter, we have often had the veggie platter with pickled onions, fresh bread, and cheese. The vegan mains are always great, and change over time.
Make sure to call in advance to reserve a table
Update to say: The Perch is as lovely in 2024 as it used to be, and we had the Sunday Roast today. Two vegan options out of five seems like a good ratio! Delicious, too

Tasty burger - Edit
Booked a table for four (two vegans, one veggie & one ‘normal’!) Everyone found something they liked, both vegans went for the vegan cheeseburger and it did not disappoint. It comes with a nice portion of chips and I washed mine down with a glass of vegan Prosecco. Had the chocolate torte for pudding and it’s as rich as it sounds. Would recommend but it’s pricey. The burger & fries were £16.95! Not really worth it but needed somewhere dog friendly, easy to get to and parking, which isn’t easy in Oxford.

Amazing - Edit
One of the best burgers I’ve ever eaten - I only remembered to take a photo for this app when I was half way through eating it.
Read moreWent for my birthday dinner and the staff were so lovely, even through we rocked up without a reservation & they were busy, they still found us a table. They had great options and the building itself is absolutely glorious. I wouldn’t care if it was hunted, I would stay there if they turned it into a hotel etc.

Decent vegan options - Edit
Along with several friends, we both had the vegan burger and chips. We’d never had a Beyond Burger before so enjoyed that! Great to have separate vegan menu for ease with starters, mains and desserts. Staff really lovely with my questions about vegan options too. The burger relish and cheese were so tasty.

Gorgeous setting and classic English pub food - Edit
The first thing to note about this restaurant is how gorgeous it is. The Perch is located inside a traditional country cottage in a rural corner of Oxford surrounded by rolling green fields. The atmosphere inside is super cozy and has a definite traditional British, old country inn feel to it.
Read moreThey offer a separate vegan menu with a number of tasty options. I tried their mushroom barley risotto as a starter, the pumpkin, wild rice, and date Wellington as a main, and their apple and plum crumble with soy custard for dessert. Everything was beautifully plated and quite tasty, though the risotto was slightly bland. The Wellington was a bit sweeter than expected, but still very tasty (the gravy it was bathed with was amazing). The roast potato side was an ideal pairing for it. Finally, the baked fruit crumble was delicious because it was not too sweet and it paired really well with the custard. We also tried their mulled apple cider with rum and it was lovely.
Overall, I would highly recommend stopping by here for the setting and ambiance alone, but it certainly doesn't hurt that they also have great food and fast and friendly service.
Pros: Atmosphere, Fast service, Tasty food

They have the beyond meat burger which was delicious (good chips), as was the mushroom toast but I wouldn't particularly recommend the celeriac soup or the pumpkin wellington.

The BEST vegan roast - Edit
Can't give 5* due to the meat content of the menu...but it deserves it for the vegan roast they do. Not only does the pub have great character, atmosphere and surroundings, the roast was the best we have tasted. Very generous portion even came with Yorkshire pud and cauliflower 'cheese', the nut roast was exceptionally flavourful and the potatoes crunchy as could be! Book ahead to avoid disappointment.

Had an amazing vegan burger and crumble with custard for pudding. Food was lovely, but the pub was really beautiful with great service as well. It was a very cold day and they had a lovely fire going which really added to the pubs charm.
