My favourite vegan restaurant so far. - Edit
I cannot sing this place praises enough. The wait staff are so friendly, and the food? Amazing. My husband has a soya allergy, so I felt a bit bad that he had to avoid most things, but I needn't have done so. He ended up with chips, fried noodles and black bean sauce, with spring rolls for starters. I had the Cantonese style vegan pork char siu, and the sweetcorn soup for starters. I think I've found a replacement for chicken soup finally with the sweetcorn soup! The main as well came with broccoli and was coated in this sweet and salty sauce, which was so good. I can't really say anything more than what I'm saying! Aside from the fried noodles being the best thing I've ever tasted. Everything is so well presented and you are spoilt for choice as to what to have. I wanted to try more, but I didn't want to overface myself. There's also a few options if mock meats aren't your thing, but that is the protein in those cases, so you're still getting something there. The desserts (lemon cheesecake and the chocolate biscuit cheesecake) were also delicious. Anyway, I'll stop waffling, just if you're in York, give this place a try. It's definitely somewhere to take any non-vegans too as even my husband enjoyed it who isn't vegan.

Great Takeaway - Edit
A group of us ordered food to our accommodation whilst visiting York. I had the mock duck starter, and a mock chicken curry with rice for a main. Portion sizes good, food really tasty and would certainly order from again.

Deliveroo - Edit
Got a Deliveroo from these guys the other evening as I'd been meaning to try them for a while. The menu contains quite a lot of fake meats, which aren't really my thing, but there were also quite a few options with tofu or vegetables.
Read moreWe ordered the sweet & sour battered tofu, the mushroom curry and a couple of portions of boiled rice. Everything was pretty good in a retro 1980s Chinese takeaway kind of way. Nice if you like that kind of thing but I'm not sure I'd rush back.
The bill including delivery & fees came to £20 which seemed fair especially as the portions are quite large.
Pros: 100% vegan, Good value, Quick delivery
Cons: Too much fake meat, not enough fresh veggies

Get the mock duck - Edit
Coming from Derby I'd give this place 5 stars just for being a vegan Chinese to be honest as we have very little choice near me, but the food was also really good! I had the bbq mock ducand mushroom rice and it were bang tidy!

Delicious curry - Edit
A group of us ordered takeaway from The Orchid so I haven’t actually been inside the restaurant, but the food we had was fantastic. I had a “chicken” curry with mushroom fried rice and it was everything I hoped it would be. Wasn’t a fan of the spring rolls as they had a strange flavour.

Incredibly tasty! - Edit
Absolutely amazing!
Read moreA word of warning though, I had the “chicken” fried rice and the “chicken” pieces were scarily like real chicken, so if that bothers you consider avoiding the mock meats or asking beforehand.

Amazing *fully Vegan* Asian restaurant! - Edit
I went here for the first time as part of a very large group, which they had no issues accommodating: the quality of the food & service weren't compromised at all. I don't tend to eat mock-meats, which alot of the menu is, but there were still plenty of things I could have, & from what other people were saying, those mock-meats were incredible. As well as all the delicious, authentic Chinese/Asian starters & mains, they also do a good selection of amazing desserts, which you can always make room for! It's absolutely brilliant that this restaurant exists, & from what I can tell it's a thriving business, so hopefully in the future we'll see more places like this. Definitely recommend!

Varied menu, unique, tasty food - Edit
We visited The Orchid in October on our last night in York. We couldn't get a table so decided to get a takeaway that we then ate sat by the cathedral. I was pleasantly surprised by the food, especially the duck pancakes and bao buns (I still dream about them!). I can't believe there is a restaurant like this that is 100% vegan. It's definitely worth trying out if you're in York. The only main downside I can think of is that it gets very busy so you should book in advance if you want a table.

We booked here for a Friday night for 6pm when they opened and within 5 minutes the place was almost full! The service was still really fast and the staff were lovely - they brought me a desert with a candle & sang happy birthday which was so sweet and unexpected! Very yummy, fresh food which arrived quickly & finished off with a coffee liqueur which is a nice treat I rarely see made vegan!

If only everywhere was like this! - Edit
A totally regular Chinese/East Asian restaurant, except everything’s vegan. Big tasty portions of all the usual dishes, we shared sweet and sour ‘prawn’, fried rice, garlic veg, gyoza, tom kha and salt and pepper calamari. Service is fab, all round a great experience, highly recommend! It’s popular so would book in advance😄

Lovely food and service - Edit
We can only add to the positive reviews for Orchid Vegan. We sent for a family mean as a mix of vegan and veggies and everyone left happy. The food was fresh and tasty and the service charming and efficient. I was concerned about the amount of 'mock meat' on the menu, but there were plenty of vegetable dishes, dumplings, etc.

Great night - Edit
We had a range of starters, all were very good! Highly recommend the duck wraps.
Read moreThe service was fast, and very friendly.
The restaurant was clean, and well designed, it felt like a proper sit down restaurant, rather than a cafe (which a lot of vegan Chinese places are like).
We really enjoyed our night, and would definitely return when we are in the area.
Pros: Large menu , 100% vegan, Great team

Simply Amazing! - Edit
This was our first time eating out at a vegan restaurant since going vegan as part of veganuary. We were just blown away with how good the food was. The staff were lovely and friendly and we will definitely be going again. I’d go as far to say it’s up there with some of the best food I’ve ever had. You won’t be disappointed! #Veganuary

Very Good Scran - Edit
We had a variety of dishes from the main and one starter. They were all really flavoursome, non-greasy, just delicious, all of them. Only regret we didnt get a vegatables dish but we had plenty with 5 dishes between us and two teas £38. Not massive portions, but rather they are perfect size for comfortable eating. Staff buzz about the place making sure you get service when needed.

My boyfriend’s not eaten pork for 3.5 years and was left absolutely speechless after the ‘belly pork’ starter. The mains were equally as delicious and we were left extremely satisfied. Considered taking a box home to my brother, can’t recommend more !

Outstanding meal and welcoming staff - Edit
Excellent, large, vegan Chinese restaurant that was packed out early on a Thursday evening. Staff were welcoming and charismatic. We tried many dishes as we couldn’t decide! The Tom Ka soup was outstanding, as was the salt snd pepper tofu, and the ‘pork’ belly. The special stir fry was more like a variety of fried balls (‘prawh’, ‘chicken’,tofu) in a sweet snd sour sauce so it wasn’t what we expected, but it was delicious!
Read moreA great meal. £90 for 2 of us, including 4 large glasses of wine and loads of dishes, and well worth it!
