YUM!! - Edit
Great food and so much variety! I tried their bao buns and lamb skewers since that was all I had room for after a long day of grazing around York, but I would have tried their whole menu if I could. So many good options with various mock meats to try. Tasty flavors, perfect textures, and friendly staff!

Unlike any other vegan restaurant - Edit
All-vegan menu full of interesting choices (delicious V friendly versions of classic Chinese-style dishes). Low-key, friendly service. Very reasonable prices.

The Orchid - Edit
Nice to see an all vegan Chinese food restaurant that is dine in, most seem to be takeaways. Large space with plenty of seating, they were able to accommodate without a prior booking. Menu isn’t the largest, I felt it could’ve been more extensive and varied. Never had OK sauce before so had that with the crispy ‘beef’, enjoyed it but for me it could’ve been a bigger portion considering the price. The additional side of noodles were also tasty, nicely flavoured but not greasy and heavy. The cheesecake for dessert wasn’t a cheesecake texture, quite hard and had no flavour other than the drizzle of ice cream topping syrup over the top. I’d try another dessert next time.

Must visit - Edit
This is a great restaurant. Really good range of menu choices. The food was really good, we ordered several dishes to share. The General Tso's tofu dish was excellent also the Mongolian beef dish.

Friendly but uninspiring - Edit
Quick service and friendly staff but unfortunately I didn't feel like the food was particularly good quality - a lot of it felt like it had been microwaved from frozen or shipped in from elsewhere. I had the lemon chicken and the sauce was sickly sweet over mushy goujons. I've had much better vegan food at non-vegan Chinese restaurants unfortunately!

Pros: Quick service , Friendly staff , All vegan

Quite good - Edit
I hate to be critical of a 100% vegan restaurant, but unfortunately for the price I don’t think this was the best experience. Now I know, I’d make better choices. For example, The gyoza and spring rolls are best avoided and substituted for more elaborate starters as they tasted store bought.
Read moreHowever, the mushroom fried toast? Sign me up for more of that! Same as the mushroom fried rice! The king prawn sweet and sour was good, but not as good as the pork chau Sui in ok sauce. A nearby table had lemon chicken that looked and smelled so good our jaws dropped, wish we’d gone for that!
Pros: Variety, All vegan, Quick service
Cons: Too much salt, Not all deserving of price

Pretty good Asian/Chinese food. - Edit
As a Gen X-er from the Netherlands I have a very "limited" view of chinese restaurants. You know, how they're decorated, the music they play, the food they serve. Every Dutchie knows what I mean by "de chinees", and it wasn't really chinese food as well, but it was an unmistakable part of dutch cuisine and culture for decades. It has all but disappeared...
Read moreTo find a place that looks and feels the same, with matching muzak (we thought it might be Bill Clinton playing "Greatest Love Songs" on saxophone or something), yet offering only vegan food? I loved it!
And not only that, but the food was very good too! Mainly Chinese, but there's sushi and some Thai influences as well. Decent portions of flavourful food and friendly service, in that 80s atmosphere, what more could you want? Place was busy too, reservation's recommend.
All in all a lovely dinner and a good time were had 😊

Nice Food - Edit
The service was good and the dishes were alright. The pork and chicken dishes were tasty. The gluten free option was not varied. The menu was not big but their dishes were simple and resembled comfort food.

Takeaway style Chinese food in a lovely restaurant setting. Lots of choice on the menu including items not usually veganised. We were too full for dessert but they had some great choices.

Delicious - Edit
Great Chinese food. 100% vegan, including the drinks menu. We had beef and king prawns and rice and noodles as a side and enjoyed it a lot, was absolutely delicious! The only dish I didn’t like was Tom Kha soup as it didn’t taste like authentic Tom Kha. But it’s a Chinese restaurant, not a Thai one😄

Amazing vegan Chinese food in York - Edit
Easy to find, centrally located. Unobtrusive but attentive, timely service. Didn't ever feel rushed. Helpful and friendly. Food = incredible! We has pork belly, king prawns, crispy duck, in various sauces - all wonderfully tasty. Finished with cheesecake which was amazing. Prices are reasonable and on par with the usual Chinese restaurant. Also, it's so hard to find a vegan Chinese restaurant - let alone one this good - I don't really care about the price much! Happy to support them and it's not the kind of outing regularly made.

Nice vegan Chinese food - Edit
We had dinner at The Orchid Vegan Restaurant this evening. We had the vegan crackers, sweet and sour king prawn, vegetables with noodles and the mini spring rolls. Everything was really tasty, apart from the vegan crackers which didn’t really taste of anything. We also ordered the vegetables with noodles and noodles came with just onions. The spring rolls were so delicious as was the sweet and sour king prawn dish.
