One of the best vegan restaurants I have been to! - Edit
We had the most amazing meal here when visiting York. Firstly the atmosphere and service is wonderful and the staff are so attentive and friendly. We shared a selection of dishes as there so many to choose from! The lemon chicken tasted so good, all the flavours were just to die for. We also ordered some noodles, a sweet chilli chicken dish, prawn crackers and pumpkin croquettes. Before when I used to order a chinese I felt really full and lethargic, but the food was so light and fresh that I felt so good afterwards. Honestly could not recommend this place more!

I've waited literal years to get food from here and I did last night. I thought it was good value for money, the food was alright, I would maybe order differently next time and give it a second chance as I thought it was subpar. I did order delivery and everything came okay, was warm enough etc., I can't explain but I've had better vegan chinese food at non-vegan places... if that makes sense. Sorry to hear you were disappointed by your food. Did you know that literally means exactly? So whey you say you waited literal years, it doesn't make sense.

So you could say "I waited literally half an hour for my food" to explain that it was exactly half an hour, it did not just feel like half an hour. If you want to emphasize the length of time, you could say "I waited practically years," or "I waited virtually years." Literally is not the word you are looking for.

We went as a family and the staff were incredibly lovely and gave our 9yr old lots of fuss. The food was fab - it was hard to know what to order so we just had loads and shared it all.

fantastic vegan chinese food at orchid vegan- it’s one of my favourite restaurants. the staff are lovely and attentive, the setting is comfortable and calming and the food is always top notch. the duck pancakes and fried noodles are a must! great value too, with loads of options. for someone who has to miss out at an ordinary chinese for lack of vegan options this place is paradise!

Delicious vegan food! Could get a bit sickly but expected for such rich dishes. Great recreations of classic meat dishes. Highly recommend the mushroom toast, crispy chilli beef & sweetcorn soup (all 10/10)! There’s also no nuts in the restaurant.

Ok at best, not as good as some reviews would have us believe. I love an all vegan restaurant but that doesn’t automatically equal five stars. The lemon chicken sat in a sherbet-like sweet sauce, bit like a syrup. Shredded duck was fine, nice dipping sauce. Crackers were pretty ordinary.

This is a must-visit venue for any one in York. The restaurant is always bustling so book ahead; staff are friendly and helpful about menu choices and combinations. Our family favourite is the crispy (non)beef, but honestly, every dish is a winner.

This is one of York’s few vegan only restaurants. There is an extensive menu, with a good range of dishes and a number of mock meat versions of traditional dishes (eg duck pancakes, calamari). The food is of a decent quality.

I’m not a vegan/vegetarian but my partner is so I like to keep an eye out for vegan only restaurants so we can share and swap plates without worrying about something getting on a plate/fork that they couldn’t have.
Read moreWe were in York for three days and had some amazing food but this was comfortably the best from both our perspectives. Had three courses and each was delicious. Will definitely be going back should we be in York again.

Awful service and allergen info - Edit
Dropped in to eat, noted about being coeliac to the server and ordered. Once we ordered, on the menu for an item didn't state that it contained Gluten/Wheat (despite them listing allergens) and only told us after we placed the order. The server was really dismissive and quite aggressive in her response when I pointed out it should then be listed. She said "yeah but we have a separate menu so if you order and anything happens to you it's your fault" (exact quote). We left immediately as I am not eating somewhere that doesn't take allergens seriously. Disgusting that HappyCow Auto awards 2 stars and not 1 JUST because they're fully vegan. That's actually quite dangerous. We shouldn't just allow a place to appear good because they did the bare minimum.

Also said they were busy, there was 1 small table of 4 in there at that moment. We were calm in explaining but the lady wanted to talk over me the entire time and clearly didn't understand the issue, hence her trying to blame the customer for their poor food safety practise. I will not be lied to/about.

Read moreMy partner and I popped in for a meal whilst in the area for the day, we explained to the server that I was GF (coeliac) there were allergens listed next to all items on the menu, so I ordered the meals that were not listed to contain wheat or gluten... after ordering I was then handed a separate menu and told one of the meals I had ordered contained gluten, however, it was not listed on the normal menu (we pointed this out to them) I was then told "if you order and anything happens it is your fault"
We had checked out the menu online beforehand and felt very confident going there as every menu item on the menu listed the allergens next to it .. or so we thought.
Absolutely disgusted, felt so belittled and ashamed to have an allergy that we cancelled our order and left.
It felt as though I was a hindrance, and they were not accepting the fact that they had mislabelled their own menu and not taking responsibility for it.
Genuinely left the place quite upset, the allergens were, I thought, so clearly marked which made choosing a meal relatively simple

Firstly I love that it's fully vegan so no anxiety about ordering food! Love that it was like getting a Chinese takeaway, which I haven't done for years, delivered to the door. Quality, taste, and portions of food were all top notch. Plenty to choose from too. I ordered on Deliveroo but when it delivered by restaurant was told if I had ordered directly from them, it would have been cheaper. Orders over £15 delivered free.

The urge to order everything on an all vegan menu is overwhelming. Everything sounded amazing, and we did order quite a lot! Each dish was delicious and well portioned. The place has a lovely friendly feel with super attentive staff. What a fabulous experience.

Maybe I caught them on a bad day, but the food wasn't very nice to say the least. Everything was deep fried, literally soaked in oil and had very little flavour.
