Only 2 options and neither are a full meal

The staff were all great but the fact remains that on their menu there is either a lasagne with salad or a falafel burger with salad for the same price as a non vegan option that includes chips etc- all really dissatisfying and expensive

Pros: Nice sfaff, Good food service hours

Cons: No choice of vegan options

What, no pomegranate seeds?

The Red Lion in Holmes Chapel (next to the Church) is part of the Ember Inns group and they have a separate vegan and vegetarian menu. The vegan mains on offer are:

KATSU CURRY (VE)
Bombay Style plant based spiced fillet with crushed poppadom served with katsu curry sauce and mint & coriander rice. 685kcal 10.79

CHILLI NON CARNE (VE)
Tomato & mixed bean chilli served with steamed rice and jalapenos. 438kcal 9.49

GREEK STYLE SALAD (VE)
Roasted squash, red peppers, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, baby salad and an alternative to Greek style feta (made with coconut oil). Dressed in house dressing. 330kcal 8.99

EMBER COB-STYLE SALAD (VE)
Salad leaves with Tabbouleh salad, roasted corn, pomegranate seeds, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, avocado and red pepper. Served with pomegranate dressing. 437kcal 8.99

VEGAN BURGER (VE)
Plant-based burger topped with an alternative to Greek style feta (made with coconut oil). Served in a toasted bun with lettuce, tomato and vegan burger sauce. Served with dressed salad. 731kcal 11.79

KATSU BURGER (VE)
Bombay-style plant-based spiced fillets. Topped with warm katsu sauce (VE). 637kcal 11.49

I had the vegan burger which was fine. I didn't notice any vegan feta to be honest. Quite a small burger. My partner had the Cob Style Salad but they didn't have any pomegranate seeds so gave him sweetcorn instead. No change to the price though.

We sat outside as we had our dog with us. Halfway through our meal, two men came out and sat on the next table to us smoking away which wasn't very pleasant for us when we were eating. There were other tables available further away but we got the impression that they always sat at that table and weren't going to move for anybody.

All in all, it was OK as there aren't many vegan options in the area (except the Bear's Head, which has upped its game recently on the vegan front).

Pros: Vegan menu

Cons: Smokers in your face in the outside area

Generic pub food

Has a vegan and vegetarian menu which is great and more than many other pubs have.
But like many chains of pubs the food is bland and microwaved.

Pros: Vegan option

Cons: Microwaved food, Bland , Weatherspoon generic ambiance

It’s a chain pub

Giving it 4 stars as there’s not much else in the area. Had the Moving Mountains burger which was pretty good. Spicy because of the vegan Sriracha mayo. Portion sizes are on the smaller size. They have three vegan desserts which is pretty good and in general there is quite a bit of choice.

Pros: Quite a lot of choices, Prices are ok

Cons: It’s a chain if that bothers you
