Excellent Sunday roast - Edit
One of the best Sunday roasts I’ve had! A plate full of vegetables, including Yorkshire pudding, good gravy, mini-potatoes. Three options for the roast plate, I chose the Wellington, based on beets and mushrooms. Another time, I had a good cheeseburger and good chips, with ketchup and vegan mayo. (The vegan fish was not available.) Very good beer selection, including local Deya and other regional beers, besides international ones. Almost all of the beers and ciders are vegan. A creative cocktail menu also. Pleasant service.

Great pub food - Edit
It’s times like this that I regret my life choices to live in a city (Southampton) with 0 vegan pubs. Imagine having somewhere just around the corner with delicious Schnitzel…

Amazing vegan food - Edit
Had the fishless burger that's served on Fridays but I also have tried the bratwurst. Literally the best pub food you can find in Bristol!

Amazing German style food - Edit
Everything was very tasty and the chips were some of the best I've had. A huge selection of beers. It was like being back in Belgium with the beer and food.

Terrible now - Edit
The Old Bookshop used to be great when they had guest kitchens.
Read moreNow it's stupidly overpriced and terrible food.
Hard avoid.
The beers are good tbf, so if you're not eating then it is a nice venue.

Thought I was going crazy, I remember the guest kitchens and changing menu as well. Definitely miss those days, the pub food they serve now isn't as special.

05/05/23 - Edit
The menu has reduced since the last time I was here. It looks like it's a smaller pop-up kitchen. I'm not sure if that's a permanent situation but worry not, the food, although much more limited is great, they still have a crazy number of beers and spirits and the staff are as friendly as ever. Great vibe, great pub.

New menu is great - vegan street food curries - Edit
Love the Old Bookshop! Insanely massive selection of beers & wines, delicious food and a great vibe. The only negative I would say are the overly loud music and high prices - but this is quality produce so I do understand.

Too spicy - Edit
I hate to criticise vegan businesses, especially as I’m the first reviewer, but it just wasn’t great.
Read moreIt’s a pub, boasting thirteen pages of vegan lagers/beers. However it does come with all the usual pub attributes of sticky dark wood furniture with dusty cushions and conspicuous music.
The food came quickly. We both ordered “mild” dishes of cauliflower roti and chickpea curry and both were too spicy. When a dish is specifically marked mild and I’m given a choice as to the degree of spice I expect mild to be mild and it wasn’t. The portions were quite small and light, but just not very flavourful apart from the overwhelming heat.
Having said all that if you’re vegan and you like pubs and a hot curry then this place is ideal and definitely worth a visit.
Pros: All vegan
Cons: Too spicy , Pub atmosphere
