Great vegan options

Usually more than one vegan option on mains, a few tasty vegan cake options, non dairy milk. Great independently run place.

Tasty cake

Had a lovely pear cake here - wish we had come for a full meal! Would love to try more next time. Very relaxed, casual dining hangout, and perfect with a big group with self-serve style hatch.

Good vegan choices that are a bit different from the norm

I had lunch here this week with my omni husband so we both had a choice which was very good.
I had the Farinata with Braised Fennel, Butter beans and Almonds along with a choice of 3 salads, I had loads to eat. Most of the salads are vegan, no labelling but very helpful staff. The farinata (a chickpea flour pancake) was filled with a very tasty tomato based sauce with lots of fennel and butter beans and a topping of flaked almonds. I really liked this, particularly as it was a bit different from the usual vegan options we get offered in most omni places.
It's counter service so at busy times you might struggle for a table plus if you can't do stairs then this place is a no no as its on the first floor and then the loos are up even more vertiginous stairs too.

Pros: Interesting vegan choices, Friendly staff, Open in the evenings

Cons: Up a flight of stairs, Might be a bit shabby for some people

Just awful

They started by serving me the meat lasagna when I'd specifically asked for the vegetarian one! They were quick to replace it, but it was annoying.

The quality of the food wasn't great. The lasagna tasted like it had been sat under the heater all day. The garlic bread was mostly grease. The salads were OK, but unlabelled so it was hard to know what was in each one.

The rose wine was undrinkable. Tasted more like fruit-juice. The water had been sat out and was room temperature.

Generally an unpleasant experience. There are many better veggie restaurants in Oxford.

Cons: Confusion between veggie and no-veggie items, unlabled salads, bad wine

lovely!

Whenever I go there is vegan cake, soup, and a hot main, as well as a variety of tasty salads. Lovely atmosphere, knowledgeable staff, all food items well-labelled. Seasonally rotating menu

Big portions of hearty food

I had a sweet potato curry with rice, huge portion (I had to take some home) and good value with student discount! Many options, friendly people and good atmosphere. Curry was a bit salty but overall, nice! Salads were really good too.

Pros: big portions

Feels like you are in the 90s

This place really needs a rebrand and being dragged into the 2010s! Very much the 'quiche brigade' side of veggiedom... Would be good to just have a menu that is a bit more modern or interesting rather than granny's attempt at veggie food.

Pros: Healthy and simple

Cons: Boring menu, Needs new decor – very old school!

Was really hoping for more

Came in here hoping for lunch with my (vegan) mother and (carnist) grandmother. We didn't even sit down- the only thing on the menu for vegans was a chickpea/spinach curry I think, and my grandmother really wasn't overwhelmed either. I would NOT call the menu 1/2 vegetarian.

Perhaps helpful if you're on a lunch outing with a group of carnists and just want to ensure there's SOMETHING for you to eat, but otherwise, I'd give it a miss.

Cons: pitiful options, staff not particularly friendly

Welcoming

A relaxed informal atmosphere, and nice and quiet upstairs, the staff are friendly and the food is good quality and good value for money. Meat is served but there is always at least one vegan item. The jacket spuds are particularly good - hot and nice and crispy!

Pros: price, location, atmosphere

Cons: serves meat

Great for all diets.

The Nosebag is where I go whenever I am in Oxford, I have always been very well fed there as a vegetarian and so has my vegan mother and meat eating friends. It is informal and relaxed, the portions are good and the prices very reasonable. You can get very tasty vegan puddings and there are always a selection of salads to choose from.

Pros: Inexpensive , tasty food, good vegan options

Cons: Gets busy

Hearty food and portion sizes

I've been to the Nosebag a few times, and have always have a good meal. They generally label clearly what is vegetarian and vegan. I have always been able to get a vegan meal there. They have quite nice salads you can get with your main, and the desserts always look good too. The vegan pear crumble is AMAZING and sometimes I want to go there just for that.

The seating area is not very large, so it can get quite crowded around lunchtime. Service is cafeteria-style, with the menu on a chalkboard above the counter with the desserts and salads. You may be sharing your table with strangers but I've never found this to be a bad experience. When I've been there at dinner it's significantly quieter, which I prefer. All in all a good place to go for omnis and veg*ns.

Pros: Good food, LOTS of food, Veg*n options labeled

Cons: Crowded at lunch, Ordering system can be confusing
