An unexpected surprise

Looking for somewhere to eat whilst visiting a friend near wgere we lived over 20 years ago we came across this restaurant on the moors between Rawtenstall and Burnley. An extensive omnivore menu and separate vegetarism and vegan menus with a good choice of options on each.

Delicious!!!

They have a dedicated vegan menu full of scrummy options, my favourite is the mushroom risotto or stuffed roasted peppers. They also have plenty of dessert options (the vegan custard they use is so good, it's even been dairy-eater approved by my mum who thought it was just as good as regular custard).

Great vegan pub food

I had eaten at the Waggoner’s twice as a vegetarian so I knew they had a really extensive and tasty veggie menu, but I was still a bit nervous about going as a new vegan since I’d had cheesy dishes both previous times. It turns out they have a full and delicious vegan menu! There are 5 or 6 starters including a vegan soup of the day, which was gorgeous. They were so apologetic about not having any dairy free spread for the bread that I think they normally would. The moving mountain burger was really nice and the wedges it came with were beautiful. Proper hand cut, posh-looking wedges. I couldn’t believe there were four proper puddings and options of dairy free cream or ice cream. I had warm chocolate fudge cake with dairy free ice cream and it was the nicest dessert I’ve had since going vegan. My 2 table companions are both meat eaters and thoroughly enjoyed their meals (non-vegan), so it’s a good place to go if you’ve got a mixed group to please.

All my food came with a flag in it, so the kitchen are clearly putting effort in to designating their vegan food and handling it appropriately.

I’m also tee-total and found the soft drinks menu really extensive. They have 0% beers, wines and cider in addition to the usual soft drinks.

Wasn’t allowed to give it 5 stars as it’s not fully vegan.

Pros: Dedicated vegan and veggie menus, Generous portions, Extensive alcohol free drinks menu

Cons: Vegan option came a few mins later (every course)
