The New Leaf Co-op, which is run as a workers' co-operative and has opened the back room and filled it with scoop-your-own wholefoods and spices, and expanded the range of cleaning and body-care refills. Also a vegetarian wholefood shop that offers competitive pricing, responsibly sourced ingredients and an alternative to over-packaged foods. Open Mon-Wed 09:30-19:00, Thu 11:00-19:00, Fri 09:30-19:00, Sat-Sun 10:00-17:00.

Quality products from friendly staff - Edit
Worker Co-operative that carries a frantic range of vegan and vegetarian products with a huge selection of loose goods both for foodstuffs and toiletries/household liquids.
Read moreCarries a lot of locally produced products and regularly introduces new, small suppliers products that you may struggle to find elsewhere.
They make very good use of the space they have and for lots of products have sought to have a good variety of suppliers - the breads and chilled goods in particular.
It can get very busy at times, especially more so with people attempting to stick to Covid numbers in at one time but I guess that a sign of good customers and it’s popularity.
And lovely, helpful staff too. : )
Pros: Excellent selection of products, Supports local producers, Helpful and friendly staff
Cons: Can get very busy at times, No Online shopping available as of Jan 2022

Cheapest refill shop in Edinburgh - Edit
A good range of refill products at much lower prices than two other refill shops I've tried on Edinburgh. Seems to be mostly, but not entirely, vegan content. Helpful staff.

Great scoop shop, good bread selection - Edit
This is such a great little shop. You can get fresh veggies here, very good artisan bread and they are also a scoop shop for all kinds of legumes, grains, etc. to save on plastic if you bring your own containers. An amazing shop overall.

wonderful shop - Edit
popped into new leaf and was delighted to see it reasonably busy in the late morning. it wasn't hard to find as suma were delivering.
Read morehas a great selection, and that seems down to the people working there, every nook and cranny was filled with products and brands we all love. the back of the store has all the refill and scooping products, a mass of beans, pulses, cereals as well as cleaning products. environmentally aware you can bring your own bags/boxes to fill at good prices.
the front of the shop has great looking fruit and veg as well as ethically sourced breads. a mass of jars and tinned products there is very little you can't find here. there are two fridges full of soy and other products so you won't struggle to find sandwich fillers.
the staff were awesome, and as well as being helpful they were passionate about what they do.
a must for anyone living in edinburgh
trying to reduce packaging waste, offer refills for so many products and they use compostable bags for their loose wholefoods.

A fantastic place for ethical groceries - Edit
I love The New Leaf Co-op! Unfortunately I don't pass by it very often or I would be in here more frequently. You can really tell that it's a grocery shop which is totally motivated by ethical and environmental concerns, with an excellent vegan range and minimal packaging, or even bring your own container. I haven't tried their nut butter machine yet, but it looks amazing.

Regular happy shopper at New Leaf - Edit
I enjoy shopping at New Leaf and since it is a small mostly vegan local cooperative there is nowhere in Edinburgh I'd rather spend my money for groceries. Well stocked shop with re-fill options and the possibility to bring your own bags for many goods. Staff are very friendly, knowledgeable and personal. Sometimes there is a lack of fruit and veg but this is because most things are seasonal and locally sourced. They sell snack food and if I'm passing and have a small hunger brewing I'll take a pasty. If you bring your own jar they make peanut butter there and, although not organic, it does taste great. They also do almond and cashew butter on monday's and tuesdays - I think.
